Barangay Jesus dela Peña picked up the pieces and reassumed its role
as the town's shoe capital. Jesus dela Peña was known as “Niyugan” (from
niyog) because of the coconut plantations that dotted its agricultural
landscape.

The eldest Christian settlement in the city, the barangay was named
after the first Augustinian parish of Jesus dela Peña (Jesus of the Rocks). It
derived its identity after a Christ-like image was seen on the rock
formations in the area.

Bilang 203, approved by the unicameral legislature on March 25, 1982.

The Industrial Valley Complex includes the underground wastewater


treatment facility, the Olandes Sewage Treatment Plant, which can process up to
10 million liters per day of domestic wastewater from 40,000 residents in the
surrounding communities.

Sta. Elena got its name from a cross-shaped driftwood that was found
floating in the river. The barangay traces it beginnings to 1687 when the
Jesuits stationed at the Jesus de la Peña mission were looking for a new
church site. The settlement was then a rural community of contented folk
who survived from the fruits of their farms and depended on fish from the
nearby Marikina River.

Concepcion Uno is formerly known as the Bayanbayanan (little town),


Barangay Concepcion, like the old Marikina boondocks, was a rich
agricultural area. Over time, though, new settlers found promise in its rich
soil and migrants started to cultivate public lands, followed by the
emergence if new communities.

The barangay was officially named Concepcion after Mary the


Immaculate Conception on June 6, 1936 with the enactment of Republic Act
No. 1541.

Barangay Tumana is a medium sized real state, bounded at the northwest


side of Marikina and a vast farmland extending to the sierra madre, in the north
of Barangay Nangka, south of Malanday and guarded by the river within the
west side. Tumana under city ordinance no. 70 series of 2005 was created the
16th barangay of Marikina City coming from the Barangay concepcion Uno on
March 4, 2006 plebiscite. The barrio most rich pasture land predominantly as an
agriculture land best suited for vegetable farming.

place is a lot more quiet than downtown and has cooler climate because they
have more trees.

Barangay Nangka was the most rural among the city's barangays. It
started as a small settlement built by two pioneering families and later
evolved into a flourishing community largely due to a river, which is the
barangay's namesake, that bilaterally cuts through Marikina and San
Mateo, in Rizal Province.

The place has been known as Nangka from the very beginning due
to the presence of langka (jackfruit) trees that used to grow in abundance
along the pass used by both man and his beasts (the carabao) leading to
the river.
