 o India is the oldest civilization in the entire world.
In this long journey of 5000 yrs, we were ruled by
Introduction many rulers, belonging to different religions and
cultures. Further, a lot of people. migrated from
other countries and India accepted them with open
hearts.
o 'अतिथि देवो भव’ meaning Guest is God has been the
tag line of campaign in India to treat tourists as
God.
o Due to this exchange, we can observe diversity in
terms of religion, race and religion in our country.

  From Jammu & Kashmir to Kanyakumari, Indians
follow different cultures, different religions,
Introduction different languages and different traditions. But
living together with love. and peace, irrespective
of these differences, describe. the concept of Unity
in Diversity of India.
 However, despite all these diversities, India
remained united even in dark hours and faced all
the crisis with a united spirit.
 The thread which binds all Indians together is
known as "Unity among Diversity."
MEANING OF  The term "UNITY” means integration. It is a
UNITY AND socio-psychological condition. It connotes a
DIVERSITY sense of one-ness. It stands for the bonds
which holds the members of a society
together.

 The term “DIVERSITY” means some

differences between two or more people,
related to religion, caste, language, culture.

MEANING OF
UNITY IN  We mix two words 'Unity' and ‘Diversity’ with
each other, it creates the beautiful meaning of
DIVERSITY Unity in Diversity. that refers to the State of
togetherness or/and oneness, in spite of
presence of immense diversity.

 Unity in Diveristy is defined as the Spirit of

Brotherhood without any discrimination in the
form of religion, caste, creed, colour, gender,
cultural practices etc.

 The term Unity in Diversity was coined in North America and China around 500
B.C.

 In 2000, the Europeans adopted Unity in Diversity in Europe as official motto of

the country.

 Canada is following multiculturalism in the country.

 The term ‘Unity in Diversity’ was first coined in India by Pt.Nehru.

 The ‘Unity in Diversity’ model set by our widely diverse country by us is an inspiration for the entire
world.

 India’s diversity has always been recognized as a source of its strength.

 During India’s fight against the British many songs and symbols emerged which served as a symbol to
our country’s respect for diversity.

 Indian flag was used as a symbol of protest against the

British by people everywhere.
 India's National Anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’ composed by
Rabindranath Tagore is another expression of the Unity of
India.
 The painting of "BHARAT MATA” was first created by
Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in the 1870's.
 “BHARAT MATA” was painted as a four armed goddess
by Abindra Nath Tagore in 1905.

6. FOR CONSTITUTIONAL REMEDY TO EVERY CITIZEN :
Article 32 gives every citizen the right to Constitutional remedy without
any discrimination to approach the Court for the enforcement of their
Fundamental Rights.
ADVANTAGES OF UNITY IN DIVERSITY

1. Increase the morale of the person with differences.

2. Solution of social problems like air pollution, water pollution etc.
3. Build relationship of trust among the people who are not the same.
4. Help to grow business on an inter-national level.
5. Source of tourism helps the country in financial growth.
6. Agricultural growth will grow the economy.
7. Advancement in technology helps in learning various skills to. survive and live
a better life.
DISADVANTAGES OF UNITY IN
DIVERSITY

1. Some bad people. who can take the benefit of Unity in Diversity can raise new
social problems in society.
2. It may cause corruption.
3. It may also lead to illiteracy in many areas.
4. Religious enmity is the biggest challenge confronted by India. eg. Religious
riots.
STEPS TO MAINTAIN UNITY IN
DIVERSITY

1. Respect the opinions and choices of other person.

2. Let them express their views on a topic.
3. Never ask about their differences.
4. Never make fun of differences.
5. Understanding Diversity - By getting to know other cultures, strengthen their
own cultures and develop their cultural identities.
CONCLUSION:

 India is a vast country with different religions, language, outfits, food,customs and practices.
 Despite all, beauty lies in the fact that We, INDIANS feel UNITY AND ONENESS in our diverse
country.
 This spirit of Unity in Diversity is very well enshrined in our constitution.
 UNITY IN DIVERSITY IS OUR BIGGEST STRENGTH.
 Old adage-UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL.
