"Haydamaki" is a Ukrainian rock band that was formed in 1991 under the name
"Aktus". The collective tours a lot in Europe (Germany, Poland, Austria, Czech
Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Romania, Sweden, Italy, USA and Canada),
participated in the festivals "Lowlands", "Sziget", "Volt", "Mundial".
The band's style combines rock, dub, punk
and ska, Ukrainian and Balkan folk music.
The band was founded in the early 1990s
by a group of Kyiv students of KPI. On
February 7, 1991, the members of the two
teams formed a new group - "Cactus"
without the first letter - the second name
of the singer and poet who created the
group, Vadym Prudnikov. After a month
and a half, the first concerts took place.
The first pop-blues program "Ми — є".
The first year turned out to be the most
difficult in the history of "Actus".
Decisive actions and inspired creativity
until the end of 1991 are replaced by
heavy depression of musicians. Andriy
Rizol took on organizational work and
improving the psychological climate in
the band. "Aktus" began to revive.
With the gradual end of the revolution
on the Maidan and the beginning of
the war with Russia in the east of the
country, a new wave of creativity and
social activity of the Haydamaks
begins. Together with the Polish DJ Cai
Caslavinieri, the song "Arkana!" is
created, a kind of appeal to the
separatists, recorded on the basis of
the melody of the traditional
Ukrainian dance Arkan. In addition to
performing at the front during 2014-
2015, the band also performed in
military hospitals in Kharkiv,
Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, and Kyiv.
These concerts were extremely difficult
for the musicians morally, but really
very necessary for the wounded
soldiers.
