Active Recreation is a therapeutic refreshment of
relaxations of one’s body and mind. Activities done for this
purpose are called recreational activities. Its main objective is
revitalized the physical, mental, social, and emotional aspects
of a person.
Dance is a recreational activity that can develop our physical,
mental, social, and emotional health. Dancing as part of our lifestyle can
surely sustain our fitness. But it should be coupled with proper eating
habits and weight management for a person to live a healthy lifestyle.
Dance is defined in different ways by
different people or authors of the art form.
• Dance transforms images, ideas and feelings into sequences of
movement that are personally and socially significant.
• Dance is a performance art form consisting of purposefully selected
sequences of human movement that has aesthetic and symbolic
value and is acknowledge as dance within a culture.
• Dance, the movements of the body in a rhythmic way, usually to
music and within a given space, for the purpose of expressing an
idea or emotion, releasing energy, or simply taking delight in the
movement itself.
• Dance is a broadly conceived as physical movement organized into
patterns in time and space.

HISTORICAL ACCOUNTS OF DANCE
• Plato concurred with his master Socrates that every educated
man should know how to dance gracefully-underscoring the manly

Dance teaches the importance of
movement and fitness in the variety of
reasons. Dancers learn to coordinate
muscles to move through proper
positions and can be a way to stay fit
for people of all ages, shapes, and
sizes. Dance is an enjoyable health-
promoting physical activity which
many people include into their lifestyle
today.
Not only is it important physically
but contributes to one’s mental health
and social interactions.
Dances can be classified as Folk or
Native, Foreign, Folk, Social, Ballroom,
creative or interpretative, contemporary, street
dance, Hip-hop, and other similar forms.
