• The size of the global air cargo market is expected to grow by 16.75 million tons by 2024, growing at a CAGR of 5%
between 2020-2024. During this forecast period, the growth in air cargo market size will be attributed to the rise in the
global e-commerce business and a need for instant shipment and delivery, as retailers are increasingly preferring the option
of air cargo shipment for quick deliveries and enhanced consumer satisfaction.
NOWADAYS OF AIR CARGO TRANSPORTATION MARKET
• The global air transportation market before COVID-19 crisis has been characterized by an increase
in the level of globalization, integration, and digitization. This has been reflected in the activities of
global airline alliances, the emergence of new forms of economic relations between different actors
in the air transportation market, the creation of a common information space for interacting
participants, the expansion of the range of services and scope of international reservation systems
and sales of transportation, etc.
• However, at the same time, threats of loss of national markets at the expense of active penetration of
transnational and low-budget foreign airlines has been increasing.
FACTORS INFLUENCING
THE AIR TRANSPORTATION MARKET
DEVELOPMENT IN UKRAINE
The economic situation directly affects air transportation. Globally, there is a fairly stable correlation between GDP dynamics
and the development of air transportation services. Growth in air transportation usually exceeds GDP per capita growth by 1-2
points. The relationship between GDP per capita growth (%) in Ukraine and the passenger air transportation made by airlines in
Ukraine is presented in Figure 1
AIR CARGO MARKET TRENDS
There are three major emerging trends expected to gain traction in the air cargo market by 2021:
• Demand for temperature-sensitive products
• A rise in popularity of air cargo digitization
• Increased focus on autonomous vehicles in the logistics sector
Ukrainian air cargo transportation
The 45-50% drop in passenger traffic caused by the corona crisis has had an extremely negative impact on the
global aviation industry and related industries. Before the crisis, traffic growth in Ukraine at 20-25% per year
was sometimes a record in Europe. The state continued to invest in the reconstruction of individual airports,
and local authorities actively tried to develop regional resorts (unfortunately, not always successfully, but this
should be discussed separately).
During the first quarter of the
"corona crisis", passenger boards
for mail and cargo became almost
inaccessible, so the demand for
convertible passenger and classic
cargo planes increased
significantly. There are not so many
such planes in the world. Therefore,
airlines began to do the
"conversion" themselves.
