2. We now need to begin to EXPLAIN beliefs about the

Shekhinah…..

Our first paragraph is going to be about The

Shekinah being present in THE TABERNACLE
for early Jews.
The tabernacle In Jewish writings, The early dwelling
place for the divine presence of God was
in a tent called the Tabernacle.

(this is why CATHOLICS call the place where

the Body and blood of Jesus is kept- the
tabernacle!
God is present!)

The Jews carried the tabernacle with them on

their journey after the exodus from Egypt,
carrying God with them and maintaining their
connection with God.
The tabernacle
This quote shows that the Jews were led of the journey out of Egypt by a pillar
of fire or a cloud- these may have been physical manifestations of the
Shekinah. This then fills up the tabernacle!

The shekinah shows God’s presence among His people and their experience of
the presence of God. It is a sign of God’s power and glory.

Exodus 40:
34
Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and
the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.
35
Moses could not enter the tent of meeting
because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory
of the LORD filled the tabernacle.

“If two sit together and the words
between them are the Torah, then the
shekinah is in their midst” Rabbi Hanaiah
For public prayer, at least 10 adult men must be joined
together (this is called a minyan). Individual prayer in the
synagogue doesn’t happen often as Judaism is all about a
collective of people who are chosen by God. “Whenever 10 are
