WHAT IS FOOD CRISIS?

A food crisis refers to a situation

where there is a significant
shortage or lack of access to food,
leading to widespread hunger,
malnutrition, and sometimes
famine. “1 in 6 people in the
world will go to bed hungry
tonight”. World Food Programme
(WFP)
CAUSES OF FOOD CRISIS:
HOW DO THESE CAUSES LEAD TO FOOD
CRISIS?
• Food waste worsens food crisis by wasting resources in production and transportation, intensifying scarcity.
• Climate change disrupts agriculture with extreme weather, like droughts and floods, leading to lower crop yields
and food.
• Natural disasters damage crops, infrastructure and water sources causing food shortage .
• Lack of investment, conflict, political instability and economic factors contribute to food crisis by stopping
agriculture development, disrupting supply chains, displacing farmers, and causing economic hardships, all of
which lead to food shortages and increased vulnerability.
• Population growth increases demand and reduces land availability and strains resources causing food shortage.
• Pets and diseases strain food production by diverting resources causing livestock and crop loses.
