World Health Day
• The world Health Day is a global health awareness day celebrated every year on
7th April, under the sponsorship of the World Health Organization.

• World Health Day was established in 1948 by the WHO.

• It is an annual event mainly concerns with common public health issues globally,
and is seen as an opportunity to highlight a current global health priority.

• They organize international, regional and local events on the day related to a
particular theme.
World Health Day
• A particular theme is chosen to run the celebration and take care of the health for
whole year.

• Global Polio Eradication was also one of the special themes of the year 1995.

• The significant role is aiming to make the world a healthy world.

• In the contemporary world- conflicts, wars, disasters, terrorism and environmental

impact are devastating lives, causing death, pain, hunger, and psychological
distress across the globe.
World Health Day
• To address these types of challenges, the theme
for World Health Day 2024 is:-

“My Health, My Right”.

• It reaffirms, what WHO has affirmed since its birth

on the 7th of April, 1948: that health is a right for
all people, not a luxury.
World Health Day
• WHO estimates that the burning of fossil fuels, war, conflict, and terrorism are
driving the health crisis and taking away our right to breathe clean air, access to
nutritious food, clean drinking water, access to healthcare and safe home.

• The WHO council on the Economics of Health for all has found that, although at
least 140 countries recognize health as a human right in their constitution, but
only 04 countries have mentioned how to finance for this health as a right.

• My Health, My Right

• At the heart of this theme, it is recognized that “ Health is not just the absence
of disease but a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being”.
World Health Day

• The right to health is more than access to quality health services and medicines.

• To achieve this vision, it is essential to address the social determinants of health,

such as

• At least half of the people in the world do not receive the
health services they need.

• About 100 million people are pushed into extreme poverty

each year because of out-of-pocket spending on health.

• Universal Health Coverage (UHC) is about ensuring all people

and communities have access to quality health services,
where and when they need them, without financial hardships.
World Health Day
• It includes the full spectrum of services needed throughout
life- from health promotion to prevention, treatment,
rehabilitation, and palliative care.

• Achieving UHC is one of the key targets of the 2030 agenda

for Sustainable Development.

• It is based on a strong Primary Health Care system.
