LAND POLLUTION

• Land, also known as dry land, ground, or earth, is the solid terrestrial surface of Earth not
submerged by the ocean or another body of water. It makes up 29.2% of Earth's surface and
includes all continents and islands. Earth's land surface is almost entirely covered by regolith, a
layer of rock, soil, and minerals that forms the outer part of the crust. Land plays an important
role in Earth's climate system, being involved in the carbon cycle, nitrogen cycle, and
water cycle. Land pollution the deposition of solid or liquid waste materials on land or
underground in a manner that can contaminate the soil and groundwater, threaten public health,
and cause unsightly conditions and nuisances.
AIR POLLUTION

• Air is the invisible mixture of gases that surrounds Earth. Air contains important
substances, such as oxygen and nitrogen, that most species need to survive. Human beings
(Homo sapiens), of course, are one of those species. Air pollution refers to any physical,
chemical or biological change in the air. It is the contamination of air by harmful gases, dust
and smoke which affects plants, animals and humans drastically.
• There is a certain percentage of gases present in the atmosphere. An increase or decrease in the
composition of these gases is harmful to survival. This imbalance in the gaseous composition
has resulted in an increase in earth’s temperature, which is known as global warming.
WATER POLLUTION

• Water pollution, the release of substances into subsurface groundwater or into lakes, streams,
rivers, estuaries, and oceans to the point that the substances interfere with beneficial use of the
water or with the natural functioning of ecosystems. In addition to the release of substances,
such as chemicals, trash, or microorganisms, water pollution may include the release of energy,
in the form of radioactivity or heat, into bodies of water.
