being forgotten about,
the global environment is
getting worse, and if

WHAT IS HUNGER ?

HAS EVERYBODY FELT THE “HUNGRY” SENSATION?

In Simple words, Hunger means the Rumbling


sensation or pain in your stomach that happens
when you have not eaten anything for more than
4 hours nonstop in a day.

Well , it also means if Your intake of vitamins and


minerals is less than what it needs to be for
healthy growth and development.

In this world there
are kids who are
malnourished due
to Poverty and
Hunger….
DID You Know?
720 million to 811 million persons
suffer from hunger.
According to the United Nations
Sustainable Goals, in 2020, between
720 million TO 811 million persons
worldwide were suffering from
hunger.

So, AFTER Seeing all
this, the UNITED
Nations decided to
eradicate or eliminate
this HUNGER…
The United Nations launched the SDG
which includes the second Goal NO
HUNGER - aims to end all forms of
malnutrition and hunger by 2030
AND
ensure that everyone has sufficient food
throughout the year, especially children.
SO why is Zero Hunger
important?
Improved Health
• When people have access to sufficient, nutritious food, their
health improves, and they are less likely to suffer from
malnutrition, improper growth, or chronic diseases.
Reduced Poverty
• Hunger often affects those living in poverty the most. By
addressing food insecurity, zero hunger initiatives can help lift
people out of poverty.
Environmental Sustainability
• Zero hunger initiatives can help promote sustainable
agriculture practices that protect the environment, preserve
natural resources, and reduce sudden climate changes.

Zero Hunger Initiatives
School Feeding Programs
• In many countries, school feeding programs provide children with nutritious
meals during the school day, which can improve their health and academic
performance. School feeding programs help address malnutrition, increases
food security, encourages school enrollment, and supports local food
production.
Food Security Policies
• Governments can implement policies that promote food security and improve
access to nutritious food, such as money help to small farmers and food
assistance programs like the mid-day meal scheme is a food aid initiative by
the government intended to improve the national nutritional status of school-
age children, giving free food on social occasions etc.
• Food security policies provide food availability, improves access to food,
promotes food safety, and builds strength
Food Banks & Food Rescue Programs
• These initiatives collect surplus food from supermarkets, restaurants, and
other sources and distribute it to people in need. These programs help to
reduce food waste, improve food access, support vulnerable populations, and

What can be done to help these Initiatives….
Our Indian Government has …

• Increase food production - The Indian government has implemented


several initiatives to increase food production in the country.
• Improve access to markets - By providing farmers with access to
markets, they will be able to sell their produce at a fair price and
improve their income, which in turn will improve food security.
• Enhance food storage - The Indian government has implemented
several initiatives to enhance food storage in the country, By
enhancing food storage, rural areas will have access to food even
during times of food scarcity.
• Improve nutrition – Programs aims to improve the health and
nutrition of children under age six, and women. By providing
supplementary nutrition, immunization, health checkups, and
preschool education, the program aims to improve nutrition in rural
areas.
India has been successfully fighting hunger.
5 HUNGER-FIGHTING INITIATIVES IN INDIA

In 2005/2006, about 645 million people were in multidimensional poverty in India,


with this number declining to about 370 million in 2015/2016
and 230 million in 2019/2021.

According to a United Nations report on 12 July 2023, India lifted approximately 415 million individuals out of
poverty between 2005/2006 and 2019/2021. The United Nations reported that 25 nations, including India,
achieved a remarkable milestone within a span of 15 years. India has `made significant progress towards
achieving SDG 2 in recent years.
Similarly, undernourished people in India have declined from 249.9 million in 2011 to 224.3 million in 2020.

part of it and give time
to the cause as a
learner…
• Help create posture,
raise money for the poor
etc.
• Keep a wishing Bag with you .

What is a Wishing Bag ? It is your special bag in which


you can collect biscuits , water, old clothes, toys and
anything else you wish to donate to the needy.

Instead of giving money, we can offer them food , this


can be done even when we are travelling.

Please do it with an adult around you.

If they don’t want food and say a no, don’t be


disheartened …. You have taken the right step in
reducing hunger.

• Whatever we spend , if we can even
save Rs. 1 everyday and keep it aside,
so that we can buy for the needy like
medicines for the and nutritious and

even help the community helpers around
us with the money when they are in
need.
• Take help of your parents and teachers
to donate in this cause.
• This way not only with food but we can
help out every way possible.
