28
CPU2-3030 Central Processing Unit

 Every system has a CPU. This unit serves

as the “brains” of the system and interfaces
with all of the units needed to monitors
inputs and controls outputs

29
CPU2-3030 Central Processing Unit

 The Display Interface provides annunciation

of all systems events and can be used to
program the system and perform a variety of
system functions

30
CPU2-3030 Central Processing Unit

 In network applications, the Display

Interface may not be required or even
desired

 The CPU may be ordered without a display

(CPU2-3030ND)

31
CPU2-3030 Central Processing Unit

 The CPU board contains LEDs and switches

for diagnostic purposes

Diagnostic LEDs

Control
Switches

32
CPU2-3030 Mounting
 CPU options require a CHS-M3 chassis for
mounting in the top position of the cabinet

CPU2 mounting

Loop Control
Modules and
Annunciator
Modules can be
installed in the two
right-hand
positions.

33
Loop Control Module (LCM-320)
 The NFS2-3030 requires at least
one Loop Control Module for
communication with intelligent
and addressable devices

 The LCM-320 provides a Signaling

Line Circuit (SLC) for connection
of up to 318 devices – 159
Intelligent Detectors and 159
Addressable Modules

 The LEM-320 Loop Expander

Module adds a second SLC Loop
for an additional 318 devices. The
expander mounts to the back of
the LCM-320

34
Loop Control Module (LCM-320)

 Standard mounting for the LCM/LEM is

either adjacent to the CPU or in the cabinet
row directly below it

 Up to 5 LCM/LEM
assemblies can be used
for a total system capacity
of 3180 devices

D-Size Backbox
35
Main Power Supply

 The AMPS-24 Main Power Supply provides

each of the components of an NFS2-3030
with its operating power and also charges
and maintains the system’s batteries

36
Main Power Supply

 The supply also provides power for

operating SLC devices and other remotely-
mounted peripherals

The Main Power Supply does

not supply power for speaker
circuits audio systems. This
power is provided by audio
amplifiers.

37
Secondary Power Source

 A Fire Alarm Control Panel

requires a source of power to
backup the system during
loss of the Primary AC power

 This secondary power is most

often a set of two 12-volt
batteries, wired in series, to
provide 24 VDC of backup
power
12 V 12 V

Cabinetry
Cabinets, Chassis & Dress Panels
Fire Panel Cabinet
 Every system has at least one cabinet

 Larger systems employ many cabinets

 The size of the cabinet(s) needed depends on

the amount and type of equipment to be housed
inside the cabinet

 The size of the cabinet(s) cannot be determined

until the complete system has been designed

42
Fire Panel Cabinet
 The cabinet assembly is made up of a backbox
and a door assembly.

 Four sizes of fire alarm cabinets are available –

A, B, C and D.
 The letters correspond to the number of rows
available inside the cabinet for equipment other
than area dedicated for optional power supply and
batteries.

 Many peripheral components of a fire system

have their own cabinet enclosures for remote
mounting.
