Definition of Medico-
Legal Report (MLR)
• Document written by a doctor in the role of a
medical expert witness in a medicolegal case.
• Requests of MLR originates from a variety of
sources such as police employers, prosecutors,
lawyers, courts, insurance companies,
administrative agencies of the patients
themselves.

(MLR) Rule 21, Section
10
• Rule 21, Section 10 provides: Exceptions –
The provisions of section 8 and 9 of this rules
shall not apply to a witness who resides more
than 100 km from his residence to the place
where he is to testify by the ordinary course of
travel, or to a detention prisoner if no
permission of the court in which his case is
pending was obtained.
