Fan Selection

There would be 124190.5 ft3 of static air within the Basketball Court
In the scenario that the air is turned over 1 times in 1 hour Basketball Court will require 124190.5 ft3 of air

Hence, 2 fans of 1000 CFM or 4 fans of 500 CFM will be required

Lighting Calculation (1/4)

Lighting Requirement for Basketball Court = 50 footcandles ( fc)

Lighting Calculation (2/4)

Lighting Requirement for Basketball Court = 50 footcandles ( fc)

Assume: Lamp Lumen Depreciation (compact fluorescent) = 0.85 Ballast Factor = 0.95 Luminaire Dirt Depreciation = 0.85

Lighting Calculation (3/4)

To Find Coefficient of Utilisation, Room Cavity Ratio must be found (Assume Room is a Cuboid)

Coefficient of Utilisation Table Assume that the surface reflectances: Pfc, floor = 20% PCC, ceiling = 10% Pw, wall = 10% RCR = 3 (round down) Coefficient of Utilisation = 0.48

Lighting Calculation (4/4)

Lighting Requirement for Basketball Court = 50 footcandles ( fc) Average Maintained Illumination = 50 fc Coefficient of Utilisation = 0.48 Light Loss Factor = 0.686 Area of of Shelter = 363 m2 = 3907 ft2

Hence, 10 light blubs of 60000 lumens or 20 light blubs of 30000 lumens

Embodiment of Design

3 Rules

Clarity Simplicity Safety

4 Principles

Force Transmission Division of Tasks Self-Help Stability/Instability

3 Rules
1.

Clarity

Any ambiguity in the design must be eliminated No unintended functions Simple words to indicate clearly the function of buttons on

the controller for activation of shelter

Arrows to indicate direction of motion shelter

2. Simplicity
Design as simple as possible Unnecessary complicated steps are eliminated

3 Rules
3. Safety
Adequate strength, reliability and accident prevention

measures are to be ensured

Signs to warn users of the danger zone when shelter is

operating
When shelter mechanism fails, warning signals and alarm

will be activated
Proximity sensor to detect obstacle at the track

4 Principles
1.

Force Transmission Reducing of stress concentration at sharp corners

Curvature of the main supporting structures No sharp turning points on the track

2. Division of Tasks Dissimilar functions are to be performed by different parts

In the case of two or more parts performing the same function,

work should be separated equally to each part

4 Aluminium Alloy poles are used to support the canopy Improves clarity as tasks do not interfere with one another

4 Principles
3. Self-Help

Symmetrical shelter from both sides balance each other.

4. Stability/Instability As canvas is spread over entire basketball court, Al Alloy Poles are used to support the canvas sheet to prevent drooping of canvas

Cost Estimation

Cost Estimation
To fully estimate the cost of a product, the following steps are needed: 1. Have a set of detailed drawings of all components; 2. Create a Part Explosion Diagram (PED) and list out the items; 3. Come up with a sketch routine for self-manufactured items; (will be done in later part of project)

4. Obtain the prices of raw materials and commercial items, then the overall selling price of design
