AIM : Today we will discuss about MOTHER BOARD OF PC. This lesson will be covered in FOUR phases.

PHASE-1 :

INTRODUCTION NECESSITY OF M/BOARD TYPES OF MOTHER BOARD SYSTEM COMPONENTS AND THEIR FUNCTION. SUMMING UP

PHASE-2 : PHASE-3 : PHASE-4

PHASE-I NECESSITY :1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. To mount the system components. slots are couple on it for necessary use. up gradation is easy as slots are available on it. system components due to inter connected among the components by the multiplayer printed cct. easier to dismount the system components as slots and sockets are used. system board provide basement for all the i/p and o/p devices which interacts with CPU through System board.

PHASE-II Different types of mother boards are available in the market as per form factors and features. These are mainly two types 1. XT 2. AT.

XT is used in original IBM pcs of the generation of INTEL 8088 and 8086 processor etc. AT system board are used from the services of INTEL 80286 CPU and upto Pentium series. Some advanced type are as fallows :Baby AT, LPX, ATX, NLX, MINI ATX.

PHASE-III SYSTEM BOARD COMPONENTS :Some important components which are mounted on the system board are as given below. 1. BIOS 2. Processor slot 3. Memory slot (RAM) 4. L1/L2 Cache memory 5. PCI slot 6. ISA slot/AGP slot 7. PS/2 connectors for KBD & Mouse. 8. serial port 9. Parallel port 10. USB port
