A path-based traffic control method for green networks

ABSTRACT :

Traffic congestion in urban road and freeway networks leads to a strong degradation of the network infrastructure and accordingly reduced throughput, which can be countered via suitable control measures and strategies.

INTRODUCTION

Transportation has always been a crucial aspect of human civilization, but it is only in the second half of the last century that the phenomenon of traffic congestion has become predominant due to the rapid increase in the number of vehicles and in the transportation demand in virtually all transportation modes.

Statement of problem: Traffic-signal control systems coordinate individual traffic signals to achieve network-wide traffic operations objectives. These systems consist of intersection traffic signals, a communications network to tie them together, and a central computer or network of computers to manage the system. Coordination can be implemented through a number of techniques including time-base and hardwired interconnection methods.

Objective of the study: Traffic signals are installed when traffic at an intersection becomes too heavy for motorists to efficiently or safely assign their own right of way. The decision to install a traffic signal depends on the conditions at the intersection meeting one of a series of warranting conditions, as defined in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE REQUIREMENT:

Hardware: PROCESSOR RAM MONITOR HARD DISK CDDRIVE KEYBOARD MOUSE

: PENTIUM IV 2.6 GHz : 512 MB : 15 : 20 GB : 52X : STANDARD 102 KEYS : 3 BUTTONS

Software: FRONT END : JAVA, SWING TOOLS USED : Eclipse OPERATING SYSTEM: WINDOWS XP

SOFTWARE REQUIREMENT SPECIFICATION:

The software requirement specification (SRS) is the official statement of what the system developers should implement. It should include both the user requirements for a system and a detailed specification of the system requirements.

Functional requirement specification: Functional requirements precisely states the functions of the system what it should do and what it should not do. Functions are provided to the users in a GUI.

Non-functional requirement specification: The non-functional requirements arise through user needs, because of budget constraints, because of organizational politics, with other software or hardware systems.

Domain requirements: Domain requirements basically means the workspace or the range or the environment in which the product will work properly. It includes the things like the full modules and there working and the technology used .The product should be fully functional without any kind of errors and without any kind of difficulties.

ADVANTAGES: a. Railroad Preemption b. Emergency Vehicle Preemption. c. Transit Vehicle Preemption and Priority

DISADVANTAGES: They depend on reliable communications networks. Because real-time control commands are transmitted from the central computer to the local intersection, any interruption in the communications network forces the local controller to operate without that real-time control and revert to its backup plan.

The system design has following decisions:

1. Organize the system into subsystems. 2. Identify the concurrency inherent in the problem. 3. Allocate subsystems to processors and tasks. 4. Choose an approach for management of data stores.

The system designer must make the following decisions:

5. Handle access to global resources. 6. Choose the implementation of control in software. 7. Handle boundary conditions.

Interaction
The user interacts with the module of traffic control system . The module deals with the fixed timer which is used to set the fixed timer and to control the traffic according to the timer it was a cyclic process.

Modules
The module deals with the self adaptive system which is used to interact with the system by analyzing the data that has been sent by the external devices. This is one which deals more interactions with the software installed area to the control area.

Module
The regular sending of data will be based on the analysis of data sent by the external devices(Sensors) Deals with detection of images by pixcels using CBRI

The tight real-time constraints,

faces a number of apparently insurmountable difficulties. There are tight real-time constraints The size of the problem for a whole network is very large. Measurements of traffic conditions are mostly local (via inductive loop detectors) and highly noisy due to various effects.

control measures has not been studied sufficiently In the worst case, the originally achieved improvements of travel time due to control

measures will be only partially reduced due to latent demand, because full erasure of the

improvement would provide no motivation for latent demand to appear. A partial (rather than full) improvement of travel times (due to latent demand) addresses

a higher benefitting driver population (that includes the latent demand).

Results
1. Less Pollution 2. Less congestion 3. Decrease in traffic level which helps in peak traffic time 4. Time efficient
