Lesson 7:

Line
Follower
What is a LINE FOLLOWER SENSOR?

➔ is a sensor used to detect how light or dark the object or

surface is.

➔ it gives your robot the ability to detect lines.

➔ the sensor works by detecting reflected light coming from

its own infrared LED. By measuring the amount of reflected
infrared light, it can detect transitions from light to dark
(lines).
LINE FOLLOWER SENSOR
How to test the sensor?
1) Upload the program to your robot
2) Observe the values on the LCD
3) Place the robot's sensor on BLACK surface. Record the values.
4) Place the robot's sensor on WHITE surface. Record the values.

How to compute the sensor value? Check these formulas: (black +

white) / 2
S1 Threshold Value = (S1 black + S1 white) / 2
S2 Threshold Value = (S2 black + S2 white) / 2
S3 Threshold Value = (S3 black + S3 white) / 2
Guided Practice: Line Follower Sensor Calibration
Click File and load the sample program – 5. Line Follower Sensor Calibration
Guided Practice: Line Follower Sensor Calibration

OUTPUT:
The sensor reading in the LCD
increases as the sensor detects
black line and decreases when
detects white line.
Guided Practice: Line Detection
Click File and load the sample program – 6 Line Detection (Button A)
Guided Practice: Line Detection

OUTPUT:
The LED turns RED when the
sensor detects black, and
GREEN when the sensor
detects white.
Guided Practice: Stop and Go
Click File and load the sample program – 6 Line Detection (Button B)
Guided Practice: Stop and Go

OUTPUT:
When BUTTON A is pressed,
the robot moves forward
when the sensor detects
white line/surface. The robot
stop when the sensor detects
black line/surface.
