INTERNATIONAL NEWS
1. FACEBOOK WILL END ON MARCH 15th, 2012! - After March 15th, 2012 the whole website shuts down, said Avrat Humarthi, Vice President of Technical Affairs at Facebook. Managing the site has become too stressful. its value at around 7.9 billion. 2. WORLD BANK WARNS OF GLOBAL GROWTH SLOWDOWN - The bank cut its growth forecast for developing countries this year to 5.4 percent from 6.2 percent and for developed countries to 1.4 percent from 2.7 percent. 3. CHINA, NEPAL AGREEMENT WIDENS SCOPE OF RELATIONS - the two countries shall formulate joint strategy on major International and regional issues.

4. Yahoo co-founder Yang resigns - Yahoo Inc co-founder Jerry Yang has quit the company he started in 1995. Departure comes two weeks after Yahoo appointed Scott Thompson its new CEO, with a mandate to return the once-leading Internet portal to the heights it enjoyed in the 1990s. 5. IMF to raise $600 billion to face global debt crisis - The IMF also estimated there would be a $1 trillion global financing gap over the next two years if global economic conditions worsened considerably, the sources added. 6. Nine foreign films make cut for Oscar shortlist - Irans A SEPARATION from writer-director Asghar Farhadi, which won the Golden Globe for best foreign language film last weekend and has been racking up kudos from critics groups nationwide.

7. RBS to cut 3,500 jobs worldwide - The Royal Bank of Scotland(RBS) has said it is planning to

cut 3,500 jobs across the globe, with most of them to happen this year, The cuts were part of a reorganisation and shrinkage of its investment bank. 8. S&P downgrades credit rating of France, Italy, Spain others - Ratings agency Standard & Poor's has downgraded the government debt of France, Austria, Italy and Spain, but maintained Germany's at the coveted 'AAA' level.

NATIONAL NEWS
1. Kalmadi gets bail in CWG scam case - Mr. Kalmadi, Mr. Verma and nine others have been accused of allegedly awarding a contract to a Swiss firm to install a Timing-Scoring-Result (TSR) system for the Games at an exorbitant rate, causing a loss of over Rs. 90 crore to the state exchequer. 2. No hike in petrol, diesel and LPG prices till conclusion of Assembly polls - With the international crude oil prices hovering around $110 per barrel and the subsidy bill threatening to balloon, touching around Rs. 1,40,000 crore this fiscal, the oil marketing companies (OMCs) have been denied the political go ahead for raising of prices of petrol, diesel and domestic LPG.

3. Food inflation in negative zone for 3rd consecutive week - Food inflation remained in the negative zone for the third straight week, at minus 0.42 per cent for the week ended January 7, 2012 mainly due to fall in prices of onion and vegetables. It was at minus 2.90 per cent in the previous week. It was above 16 per cent in the corresponding week of 2011. 4. Mamata government offers women staff two-year leave - "All women employees of the state government can now avail of two years of leave during their entire career for bringing up their children. They can take the leave at one go or in phases," 5. Delhi Auto Expo 2012 : The success story - With around 1,500 participants from 24 countries, the 11th Auto Expo host to 50 new launches including cars, two-wheelers and commercial vehicles, and a special focus on green technologies and environment.

6. Filmfare awards 2012 Nominations and Winners - 2011, the year was a mixed one for Bollywood. While some films may have grossed highly, other highly anticipated movies did not get a look by the audience. 1. India to grow at 6.8%: World Bank - Local factors such "policy uncertainty, stalled reforms, and deteriorating political and security conditions" are making things worse in South Asia. 2. Tata Consultancy Q3 profit up 23% - TCS, a unit of the salt-to-steel conglomerate Tata Group, said consolidated net profit rose to 28.87 billion rupees ($569 million) in the fiscal third quarter that ended Dec. 31 from 23.46 billion rupees a year earlier. 3. RIL to unveil Rs 12k cr share buyback - Reliance Industries (RIL) is expected to announce one of the biggest share buyback programmes in Indian corporate history, worth over Rs 12,000 crore, to boost its share price that has fallen 35% in the last one year.

4. Amazon may enter India via Marketplace - The world's largest online retailer may enter India with an eBay-like platform for buyers and sellers, called Amazon Marketplace, in a bid to overcome FDI restrictions on multi-brand retail in the country. 5. China trade surplus at $160 billion in 2011 - China's trade surplus narrowed to about $160 billion last year, down from a trade surplus of $183 billion in 2010, came as key Western markets struggle to emerge from the global economic downturn. 6. Airbus takes record orders in 2011, beating Boeing - it took in 1,419 net new orders in 2011, worth $140 billion, well above Boeing's total of 805 aircraft. That topped the previous record of 1,413 net orders recorded by Boeing in 2007.

7. Exxon awarded $908 million in Venezuela dispute - An international arbitration panel has awarded U.S. oil giant Exxon Mobil Corp (XOM.N) $908 million in compensation for Venezuela's 2007 nationalization of assets. 8. Detroit auto show: Hyundai Elantra wins car of year - The Hyundai Elantra edged out the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Passaton Monday to win the 2012 North American Car of the Year award.

SPORTS NEWS
1. Andy Roddick out of Australian open - a hamstring injury forced him out of the Australian Open. The former No. 1, whose lone major singles win came at the 2003 US Open. 2. Indian women's hockey team clean sweep Azerbaijan - With this victory, India kept their slate clean after having defeated visitors with margins of 3-0, 2-1 and 3-0 in the first three Tests at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium this week. 3. Chowrasia tied 28th after Volvo golf Rd 1 - Chowrasia looked set to end the opening day of his 2012 campaign on the European Tour with a par round.

4. Woods to start PGA season at Pebble Beach

- Tiger Woods is returning to the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am for the first time in 10 years. 5. 1st Test: Pakistan beat England by 10 wickets - Pakistan handed England their first Test defeat in 13 months with a blow-out 10-wicket victory inside three days on Thursday. 6. IPL-5 in its peak before start - England off spinner Graeme Swann has attracted the highest reserve price of $400,000 ahead of the IPL players' auction, to be held in Bangalore on February 4.
