The gypsy culture is very diverse and in the same time there are some basics unwritten rules that all respect

There is known to exist 17 kinds of gypsies

The Corturari gypsies and their simple world

Translated Corturar means the one who lives in a tent. They are the only gypsies who still keep the original nomad tradition alive;they travel the country or the world. Their fortune are their horses, jewelry and their children.

Ghibtari Gypsies
The Ghibtari gypsies are descendends of egyptian gypsies,they make a living from putting shows on the streets. They also are known as the gypsies from the circus cuz they travel the world with the circus and they are entertainers.

Ursarii Gypsies
The meaning of Ursar Gypsy can be translated as the gypsy who raises bears They are also nomads and they make a living by putting shows with the bears which they raise. They also used to make from buffalo and cow horns combs and they would sell them.

 From the 13-20 century it wasn t allowed that a gypsy woman to not wear a dikhlo (translated dikhlo means headdress) The Gabori gypsies ( in the roma community they re called pintiearea ),they are the most comun in Europe,you can recognize them by their traditional costumes;the woman wears a long gypsy skirt.The reason why it s called a Gipsy skirt is that it s made out of 7 layers of fabric and the cost of one skirt starts from 200 euro.

The signification of the red piece of silk in the braids of the young girls: it s a sign of their virtue and and the fact that they are not married yet.

The men
The gypsy gabor men wears a leather vest,a hat and a mustache,the rest of his outfit is in sober colors. The hat is a sign of maturity.

All over the world

The gypsies are very diverse ;just to name a few more: iptari ,they re the muslim gypsies. The gypsies tend to adopt the predominant religion of the host country. The muslim gypsies can be found in : Turkey, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Egypt, Kosovo, Macedonia, Greece.

Gembasii Gypsies
The gembasii gypsies are different from the other gypsies,they emancipated and broke some of the traditions because they wanted to live more freely and more open minded.They knew the importance of blending in and education.They needed to blend in because the Gembasi gypsies make a living from raising horses,it s their only occupation and also their passion.

New Era
The geambasi gypsies and the musician gypsies decided to live different,they went to schools and decided to make their next generations more and more better. Regarding to clothing;they gave up the gypsy clothing and they decided that normal clothing would be better. The woman gave up the dikhlo(headdress) after so many years of being forbidden to present themselves without one.

The Gypsy Influence:the make-up and the fashion.

The gypsy life style has inspired authors,designers,movie directors and they portrayed the the gypsies in a stereotyped manner;they also were impressed by the gypsy concept of freedom which is unconventional and incompressible for the established social standards. From the 13 to the 20 century it wasn t allowed for the woman to get out of the house whitout the headress.

New Era
Make-up wasn t allowd either . The Geambasi gypsies and the musicians gypsies decided to go the other way and embrace this things and also put their own print on them. The make up of gypsies goes way back to the nomad-indian gypsies and it has a lot of indian influences.
