TO PERSUADE WHY

TESTING IS BAD
By Ernesto Tobias
AT T E N T I O N S T E P
• Background Details: Oklahoma State University Provost Robert “bob” Provost once said in a TED talk that as a
result of standardized college admission test testing students can end up intellectually dead because they are
deprived of oppurtunities, which means that people can be held back from certain learning and life experiences just
because of a test score, which wont let them expand their options and they will end up intellectually still. Just for
some IQ test.
• Students who want to go into college are required to complete the Sat’s or Tsi and stuff like that, but dont get the
score they pictured and are limited to the opportunities, just because of a simple score.
AT T E N T I O N S T E P
• The Tsi and Sat’s shouldnt restrict of which education path you want to go just if you know complex
math and english, and you shouldnt even need it because your gonna do it again anyways.
• Standardized testing should be eliminated, it dosent determine the level of education you should get
into.

• Many advocates of standardized testing say, that they are a fair and reliable
measurement of academic learing. However this is not always the case.
According to Thomas Armstrong at the American institute for learning and
development, because students know that test scores might affect the future
they do whatever they can do to pass them, which includes cheating and
taking performance drugs such as adderal.
NEED STEP
• Background Details: Test scores can impact the confidence students have at the point of
taking another test or cause grades to drop according to Bryan Nixon in his Journal called
The Pros and Cons of Standardized Testing
• Statement – Standarized testing does not affect positively
NEED STEP
• Illustration – Imagine your having a nice day, your going to a party later on the day or your
going to relax once you get home and watch a movie, but you still have to take a final
exam or test and you think your going to ace it, you get your results back and you fail it and
you question your abilities with that specific class and never go back to that cause you
question if your even good at that anymore.
NEED STEP
• According to a study done by the American Psychological Association in February 2014, 83 percent of
teenagers that were surveyed reported that school was either “a somewhat or significant source of
stress.” This same study also stated that during the school year, teenagers reported their stress levels
to be much higher than what they thought was healthy. This could have a snowball effect that could
lead to more students too scared to make mistakes anymore. That is a slippery slope because a lot of
times, it is much harder to get back up than it is to fall down.
• I know every single one of you has had that type of confidence fall or that type of day or
moment.

There is a simple solution to standardized testing
• Standardized tests need to be irradcated, and replaced by tests that measure life skills and capabilities
that a person needs in the real world for example Oklahoma state university provost Bob sternberg
created an undergraduate admissions programs called kaleidoscope which measures creative
analytic, practical, wisdom faith, ethical skills and problem solving skills which allows students to be
looked as a whole, not just for some fancy score on a test
• Students would be more willing and excited to learn if they knew they were being taught skills they
would need in life rather than what they might ever use.
S AT I S F Y / S O L U T I O N
• Theoretical Demonstration- Hopefully none of us, like standardized testing, because
that would be a first
• Meeting Objections – Now i know standarized exams might also help a student show how they improve
over time by comparing their scores from year to year. They also allow for straightforward comparisons
between students, highlighting changes in their progress. They can also These assessments help define
academic standards across schools, states, and the nation. They provide valuable data that can shape
educational policies. If test takers struggle in a particular area, it signals that school leaders and community
stakeholders need to step in and provide targeted interventions and additional support.
VISUALIZE
• Background Details: Many students are affected by test anxiety or do not show their learning well on a
standardized test, resulting in inaccurately lower scores.
• Visualize – I believe we would have a little more students passing in any type of school that includes
primary, secondary, and tertiary levels by removing standardized testing.
CALL FOR ACTION
• Background Details: The Standarzied testing system is a punch in the guts for most students and i
believe it should be elimanated
• Well with that out of the way, Students and teachers shouldnt have to deal with standarized test
taking, since it critiques the student primarly but could also critique the teavher if all her students get
the same test results, With that out of the way, thank you for your time
