VSDs for Constant Torque

Applications (ATV61)
ATV 61 Installation & Connections
Mounting the Drive

● Install the drive vertically to ± 10°.

● Do not place it close to heating elements.

● Leave sufficient free space to ensure that the air required

for cooling purposes can circulate from the bottom to the
top of the unit.

● Free space in front of the drive: 10 mm (0.39 in.) minimum

● When IP20 protection is adequate, it is recommended that

the protective cover on the top of the drive is removed as
shown below.

Installing the Graphic Display Terminal

● The graphic display terminal can be connected or disconnected with

the power on.

● Drives with catalog numbers ending in the letter Z are supplied without
a graphic display terminal (VW3 A1 101). This can be ordered
separately.

Installing Option Cards

● These should ideally be installed once the drive is mounted and before
wiring it.
● Check that the red capacitor charging LED is off.
● Remove the Graphic Terminal.
● Remove the control front panel

Installing Option Cards

● Position the option card in clasps.

● Pivot the Card until it clicks in place.

Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)

● An EMC mounting plate can be used with the drive for grounding the
shields of the power cables when necessary for the installation to meet
EN 55011 Class A requirements.

Wiring Precautions & Recommendations

● Grounding: The drive must be connected to the protective ground. Use

at least 10mm2 protective conductor

● Separation: Separate control and power wiring.

● Cable Length: At least 0.5mm, it must be not too long or capacitance

will be generated.

Power Terminal Definition

Only remove the link between PO and PA/+ If a DC choke has

been added. The screws on the PO and PA/+ terminals must
always be fully tightened as there is a high current flowing in the
link.

● The logic input switch (SW1) is used to adapt the operation of the logic
inputs to the technology of the programmable controller outputs.

● Set the switch to Source (factory setting) if using PLC outputs with PNP
transistors.

● Set the switch to Sink Int or Sink Ext if using PLC outputs with NPN
transistors.
