e than 3800 people it focuses on pesticides & chemicals Union Carbide (UCC) started out as a carbon company in 1886 and diversified to gases and chemicals during World War I.From the Manhattan project of World War II, until it relinquished its contract in 1984, Union Carbide was a contractor to the US federal governments nuclear weapons production At the Cimanggis plant in Indonesia at one point in 1978, 402 employees (more than half the work force of 750), were suffering from kidney disease attributable to workplace contamination according to the companys doctor Dr.Maizar.

Union carbide became infamous after worst industrial disaster that took place in Bhopal In this case almost 15000 were killed & 40000 suffered & still suffering Bhopal gas case was due to negligence of supervisory panel,improper security, improper maintaince of machines People were money given for their treatment & family There was a cloud of gas at that time ,infants died at the same moment only Strict actions has been taken against the organization policies has been formed that without proper security such organization will not run

Bhopal plant had switched off the refrigeration unit to save about Rs.700 (US $50) per day. At Carbides Bhopal plant, inspections were rare and replacements often not made for up to 2 years Reduction in the workforce-only 6 of 12 workers were still working supervisory personnel was cut in half At the West Virginia plant all the vital systems had back-ups and were automatically linked to computerised alarms and crises control systems. The Bhopal plant not only lacked all the above but the sole manual alarm was also switched off.

Had the refrigeration unit been working, a runaway reaction in the MIC tank could have been delayed or even prevented. There should be proper replacement of the employees also. More well trained workers should be appointed & inspections should be strict Another company named Bayer produced carbaryl without using MIC but at a greater manufacturing cost. There should be provision for back ups and companies should be prepared to face such instances

Union carbide was one of the best pesticide plant at that time It became infamous after the Bhopal tragedy Bhopal tragedy was not the 1st incident before that many incidents took place in Russian nuclear power plant explosion, Italian dioxin crisis also took place This all happened due to negligence, improper safety measures as report says In this incident more than 5000 people died including infants & still suffering Chief of union carbide flew away Case of union carbide is still pending Threat of union carbide still prevails in Bhopal atmosphere

If you were manager of union carbide what effect do you have & what you will tell your subordinates?
If I was manager I would first have a balanced temperant, I should not get excited & disturbed by such news although I feel pain for victims I would find the exact cause behind all this & try to remove it I should motivate my workers & try to keep them calm & ask for their cooperation I should talk to top level management to provide the victims with compensation money & free treatment I should try to provide them job opportunities I should take more preventive & safety measures I will select more skilled staff & take prevention that this thing never happen again

What responsibilities does union carbide have to victims of disaster


Union carbide should pay all treatment bills and charges of the employees Many of the employees have lost their jobs & have to leave their hometowns job opportunities should be provided Loss done by union carbide cannot be repaid/refund by anyone but still union carbide should try to provide profits to victims as much as possible

Company lost its trust from the people No investor wants to put his shares & investment Company case is still going on no decission yet Still Anderson the main victim is not found Still the truth is lying under though there are various assumptions but still fact is not known there are conflicts on this issues

Effect rights to know laws have is that: People become much informed about rules & policies of organization They have right to know about industry background & details If they feel that any industry may cause harm to them they can claim it & close it They have right to know what benefits & losses they can have from any industry
