ADAPTIVE CORNERING LIGHT SYSTEM

Guided by : Mr. Yagneswar

Department of Mechanical Engineering Jagannath Institute for Technology & Management (SoET) Centurion University of Technology & Management

OBJECTIVE
To design a mechatronic based adaptive cornering light system for automobiles which can be retrofitted to any existing vehicle.

WHAT WE HAVE DONE YET ?

Analyzed the basic mechanical systems. Implemented mechanical linkages and detected the possible failures.

Implemented wire mechanism and successfully designed the cornering light system.
Researching and analyzing mechatronics based adaptive cornering light systems.

RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS OF TURNING RADIUS

We have found through research that, in Indian automobile scenario the maximum turning radius for a small car is 4.2m, for a SUV the value is 6.0m and for sedans it is 5.4m.
A turning angle of 45 to 75 can be taken for adjusting the cornering lamp direction with accordance with the type of vehicle.

CONCEPTUALIZING THE CORNERING LIGHT MECHANISM

We need a continuously variable resistor set which can detect the amount of steering turn.
A analog to digital converter, which will take input form the resistor and feed the output to a micro controller. A microcontroller to decide the motor actuation. Two 12 Volt D.C. Shunt Geared Motors of 10 rpm coupled with drivers.

ADAPTIVE LIGHTNING MECHANISM

Light Sensing Diodes (LSDs) are to be employed to detect the oncoming light characteristics. The data from LSDs will be processed by the microcontroller and accordingly the light on/off switch, upper/dipper switch and automatic light levelers will be operated.

Hence the vehicle lights will adapt to different environmental and night driving conditions.
