One of his earliest memories of television was the black and white images of the lift off of John Glenn's Friendship 7. While cousins and peers raised animals for the 4H Fair or fought tooth and nail over the virtues of Fords versus Chevies, Daniel memorized minutia about America's space fleet and spent his summers in libraries devouring any space-related book he could find. During his junior high school years, his path and that of kindred spirit Dave Michaels crossed, and the two became inseparable, discovering the space fiction of Martin Caidin, and spending countless hours at the local planetarium, on model rocketry, and on any science fiction film they could find. During these years, Daniel wrote the short story "Sea of Crisis" that served as the basis for Red Moon.
Daniel's pursuit of the writing of fiction waxed and waned in the intervening years, but came to a focus when Dave Michaels, inspired by a chance visit to a Sotheby's auction of (astonishingly) Soviet space hardware and the success of the film Apollo 13, presented the idea of developing "Sea of Crisis" into a screen treatment. Soon after, the novel developed and Daniel penned a number of the book's later chapters. Learn more about Red Moon at www.luna15.com.
