Corona Police Department2011 Citizen’s Academy
The Corona Police Citizens Academy was established to promote an understandingof the Department’s operations.Participants gain an overall knowledge of the Corona Police Department, theorganization as well as the service and response to calls in the community. TheAcademy also provides an opportunity for participants to meet the men and womenwho provide law enforcement services in the community. The Academy’scurriculum is designed to provide an inside look at various operations. Thisincludes the areas of patrol, traffic, vice / narcotics, domestic violence, forensics andmuch more. Instruction is provided by police officers and civilian personnel whospecialize in these given areas.The Academy meets once a month for two hours over a ten month period. TheAcademy starts each January and ends in October. A diploma is awarded to eachparticipant who successfully completes the course.The department would like to invite employees’ immediate family, spouses,significant others and friends age 16 and older.Classes will be held at the Corona Police Department located at 730 CorporationYard Way, Corona. The first class starts January 19

Welcome Police Department Organization
The presentation will cover registration, course overview, department organization, rankand file and mission.
February 16

Youth Diversion Team
The presentation will cover a brief history of the juvenile justice system, how the CoronaPolice Department processes juvenile offenders and how the Youth Diversion Programattempts to change illegal behavior in our community’s youth.
March 16

Forensics
This class is designed to familiarize the participants with the role of the ForensicTechnician; common crime scene investigation tools, techniques, and tasks; and toprovide specific information on the equipment and capabilities of the Corona PoliceDepartment. The participants will also be shown, by way of a PowerPoint presentation,how forensic investigation techniques are used in an actual homicide crime scene
April 20th Traffic Division
The traffic division will present an overview of traffic enforcement in the City. The class willcover the various functions of the traffic division including our Collision ReconstructionTeam. There will also be an overview on how officers determine who’s at fault in trafficcollisions.
May 20th Canine Unit
The presentation will cover the history and purpose of using canines for police work. Thecanine team members will give insight on the different ways police dogs are used in policework. This will also include a demonstration.
