All seams are 1/2 inch, unless noted. Cutting instructions include seam allowance. 1. Press one piece of fusible interfacing to the wrong side of one of the bag/lining rectangles. Ensure that the interfacing is centered on the fabric, so that the edges around it reveal 1/2 of the fabric. Repeat for the other bag/lining piece. 2. Press one piece of fusible interfacing to the wrong side of the pocket rectangles. Again, ensure that the interfacing is centered on the pocket piece. Repeat with remaining pocket piece. 3. Fold and press one 16 x 18 pocket rectangle in half with wrong sides together to make an 8 x 18 pocket piece. Repeat with remaining pocket rectangle. 4. Layer an18 x 24 bag/lining piece and a pocket with right sides together. Ensure that the raw edge of the pocket lines up with the bottom of the bag. 5. Pin a strap to the bottom edge of layered pieces, leaving 4.5 between each side of the strap. (see diagram B) 6. Beginning at the bottom edge of one layered piece, topstitch 1/4 from edge up one side of the strap to the end of the 12 piece of ric-rac. Sew across strap at the 12 mark, and back down to the bottom edge. Repeat with remaining side of the strap to complete one side of bag. 7. Repeat steps 4-6 to create the other side of bag. 8. Layer both sides of bag with right sides together, pin in place. (Pin loose portion of each strap to prevent catching them in the stitching). 9. Stitch aroung the edges, leaving a 7 opening at the top center for turning. Trim seam down to 1/4. Cut away a 3 square in the bottom corners of the bag and the lining. 10. To shape at bottom for bag: Bring the side and bottom seam line together and pin. Stitch across the opening with a 1/2 seam allowance, then trim down to 1/4. Repeat for the other corner and both corners of the bag lining. 11. Turn bag to right side and press seams. Top stitch lining opening closed. Insert lining into bag. 12. Press the bag, and topstitch decorative ric-rac along the top edge.
