Quarterback
•Lines up under center or heels at 4.5 yards when in shotgun
•Keep- QB follows back after handoff/fake
•Boot- QB goes away from back after handoff/fake

Fullback
Lines up with heels at 4 yards behind the LOS in a 2 point stance
Ram or Lam: Aligns two yards deep and two yards outside the tight end
(Y) or tackle.

T (Tailback)
•The T is the primary running back for the offense
•He can line up at 4.5 yards deep behind the BST or as a wing set up
away from the TE 2 yards wide and 2 yards deeper than the BST.
•In a trips call he lines up as the widest man off the LOS
•Will go in Rocket or Short motion

Z (Wingback)
•The Z always lines up in the backfield. He is generally lines up 2 yards
wide and 2 yards deeper than the EMLOS.
•Is on the same side as the TE unless it is a trips call
•2 point stance
•Will go in Rocket or Short motion

X (Split End)
•5 yards from the T
•Wide call puts the X 5 yards from the side line

The Playbook
•The playbook is shown in a double slot formation, deuce, if a traditional
tight end wing alignment (red/blue) is used the Y and Z switch
assignments.
The Sweeps
• Rocket, Jet, Belly Sweep (X)
• Rocket is fast motion quick pitch to the outside
– Very fast to the edge/flank
• Jet is fast motion handoff sweep straight across
the formation
– Can be run from any formation to the T or Z
– F can be sent to the weak or strong side and it
will be tagged in the play call
– Complimentary plays are Guard Out, Wedge,
Counter Trey, Waggle
• Belly Sweep (X) is slower developing with only
the X receiver blocking for the Z
– Z back moves on snap of the ball and runs
through FB’s heals
– Complimentary plays are Keep Pass

Complimentary Plays
Motion- All complimentary plays can be ran with or without
the use of motion. Motion may cause the defense to
rotate to stop rocket/jet sweep which will leave less
defenders in the box. Motion will leave you with one
less blocker on some plays like X or guard out.
– If you run guard out to the motion the DE may fan and
the PSG can pull through the hole and lead.

Bootleg/Keep- At anytime bootleg or keep can be tagged


to the play call to use the QB as a runner. Bootleg
means the QB keeps around the end opposite of the
call hole. Keep means the QB keeps the ball around
the end on the same side of the call hole.
– If you tag truck or counter trey as a keep the back in
rocket/jet motion will be a lead blocker for the QB.

Inside Zone- The wedge play can be run with any type of
motion or no motion at all. It can also be run as an
inside zone play in which zone principles are used for
blocking. This is best accomplished with rocket or jet
motion.

Power- Do not forget to run the power! It will put the
