Many would believe that Betrayal Is Survival, the tag line of Jacqueline Fernandezs Race 2, truly reflects the cut-throat competition and survival mantra in the Hindi film industry, but the Sri Lankan-born actress says hard work and honesty can do wonders. It is a very competitive industry. They say that if you want to survive here, you have to be cut-throat. But I dont see a need for that. Sometimes I feel that hard work works. If you want to sleep well at night it is better if you just be an honest person, said Jacqueline in an interview. Personally, she feels it is better to forgive and forget than hold a grudge against anyone. I think betrayal is a part and parcel of life and I think we all have experienced it. But I am someone who doesnt believe in holding grudges. I am someone who forgives and forgets. I think it is important, she said. Born to a Sri Lankan father and Malaysian mother, Jacqueline was raised in Bahrain, and at the age of 14 was hosting a fitness show. She moved to Australia for her college studies, and then returned to Sri Lanka, where she took up a reporting job. The year 2006 turned to be a game-changer for her as she entered the Miss Sri Lanka beauty pageant, and won the crown. That set the stage for the Miss Universe contest at Los Angeles for her. My mum is my biggest critic and I take her opinion very seriously because I know that is one person, who is saying it only for my good and nobody else, Sonakshi told reporters in a group interview. If I could have done it much better or if the outfit is not looking good, she will tell me then and there itself. The best part is she is so honest about it. Jason Kenney to relaunch skilled worker immigration program in May
The federal government will reopen its largest immigration program with a new focus on accepting skilled workers who are young and can speak either English or French, Immigration Minister Jason Kenney announced Wednesday. The Federal Skilled Worker Program was frozen in June pending changes to the points grid used to select newcomers. The government is seeking to make youth and language proficiency a bigger priority for both principal applicants and their spouses. Under the new system, the government will also award more points for Canadian work experience and wouldbe newcomers will have to have their education credentials assessed before arriving in Canada. The new Federal Skilled Worker Program criteria will ensure Canada is selecting the skilled immigrants our economy needs, who are the most likely to succeed and fully realize their potential in Canada, Kenney said in a statement. For too long, too many immigrants to Canada have experienced underemployment and unemployment, and this has been detrimental to these newcomers and to the Canadian economy. Our transformational changes to the (program) will help ensure that skilled newcomers are able to contribute their skills fully to the economy as soon as possible. This is good for newcomers, good for the half of 2012. UN Reports Sharp Slowdown of World Trade

The UN has reported a sharp slowdown of world trade, attributing the decelerating global trade growth to a declining import demand in Europe and anaemic aggregate demand in the U.S. and Japan. Growth of world trade decelerated sharply during 2012, mainly owing to declining import demand in Europe, as the region entered into its second recession in three years, and anaemic demand in the US and Japan, Xinhua quoted a UN report titled World Economic Situation Prospects 2013 as saying. The report was released Tuesday by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs.

It said that after plunging by more than 10 percent in the recession of 2009, world trade rebounded strongly in 2010. Since 2011, the recovery of the volume of world exports has lost momentum, the report said. Developing countries and economies in transition have seen demand for their exports weaken as a result. The monthly trade data of the different regions and countries showed a clear sequence of the weakening demand that originated in the euro area transmitting to the rest of the world, it said. Import demand in Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain started to decline in late 2011 and fell further during 2012, but the weakness in trade activity has spread further to the rest of Europe as well, including France and Germany, the report said. In tandem, imports of the United States and Japan also slowed significantly in the second half of 2012. East Asian economies that trade significantly with the major developed countries have experienced commensurate declines in export, Xinhua quoted the report as saying. Further down the global value chain, energy and other primary- exporting economies have seen demand for their exports weaken as well, the report said. Brazil and the Russian Federation, for instance, all registered export declines in varying degrees in the second

Many columnists around the world are feverishly writing about the imminent end of the world as it was predicted by the Mayans. TV channels are also hosting shows and airing documentaries about it. Social media abounds with blogs, facebook posts and tweets pertaining to it. Even at several ongoing holiday season cocktail and dinner parties, the topic of conversation invariably turns to December 21, 2012, when supposedly the Mayan Armageddon is set to be unleashed. However, according to the Hindu Shastras (scriptures), Kalyug, one of the four eras in which we currently are, still has a long way to go, about 427,000 years! There are several interpretations of the four different yugs in the hindu scriptures. I am briefly outlining only one here. The yugs are said to succeed each other almost endlessly.

India are all set to play England in a two-match Twenty20 International series, starting in Pune tomorrow, before squaring off against archrivals Pakistan, in another twomatch series, commencing in Bangalore on December 25.
