chassis
FramES. With many years experience from markets all over the world, Scania's modular range of truck frames offers almost limitless scope for customisation. Frames with single members are available, as well as flitched frames in several strengths. Vehicles can be specified with normal or high frames, the latter with generous ground clearance and all vulnerable components out of harms way. Wheels and tyres are available for all operating conditions. Anti-roll bars are available on most axles for added stability. Chassis wheel bases range between 29006500 mm dependent on wheel configurations. BodyBuilding. All chassis can be equipped with

features that simplify bodybuilding. Options available include: Various types of brackets, as well as hole patterns for bodywork available ex-factory, ready for installation of the body. Chassis rear end cut to the desired length. Pre-installed electrics for several types of bodywork. Cable harness preparation in cab and chassis. Bodywork functions can be connected using conventional wiring or via the vehicles CAN-bus. Battery connection.

Scania is co-operating closely with selected bodybuilders in many countries. In some markets, vehicles can be supplied with tipper or mixer bodies fitted at the factory, thus radically cutting lead times. Scania's bodybuilder homepage at www.scania.com contains instructions and dimensional drawings, as well as drawings for individual chassis during 90 days before delivery.

gearboxes
Our gearboxes for construction vehicles cover a wide range extending all the way from simple, rugged 8-speed boxes to 12+2-speed range-splitter overdrive boxes. All gearboxes offer PTO options (from 600 Nm to 1200 Nm) that provide easily controllable stable running on all trucks. GR905 8+1 gears basic heavy-duty gearbox with crawler. Options: Scania Retarder GRS905 12+2 gears the premium gearbox with two crawlers. Options: Scania Opticruise, Scania Retarder. GRS0905 12+2 gears premium overdrive gearbox with two crawlers. Options: Scania Opticruise, Scania Retarder.

axles
Hub reduction is available on four-, six-, eight- and ten-wheelers. The capacity is up to 16 tonnes per axle. Parabolic or multi-leaf suspension options are designed to suit high gross weights and the most arduous conditions. Vehicles can be specified for gross combination weights up to 150 tonnes. Frequently used hub reduction central gear ratios for mining applications are 5,68 and 7,18. Front axles have a capacity of up to 9 tonnes. Scania's driven front axle with hub reduction has a capacity of 9 tonnes and can be specified in several configurations, matching even the sturdiest of the rear axle set-ups. Transfer boxes can be specified in two strengths. Front-wheel-drive is either permanent or, as an option, engageable. All-wheel-drive is available as 4x4, 6x6 and 8x8. A special execution is 8x6 with the first front axle driven and a rear double-drive bogie. Drive on the first axle give excellent mobility and traction in soft surface conditions (e.g. mud, sand, snow) where the first axle paves the way for the remaining three axles reducing rolling resistance. Tag axles configurations include twin-steer, with a steered tag axle ahead of the drive axle or bogie, or rear-steer, with a steered tag axle aft of the drive axle(s).

With FOPs canopy ~ 8 700 mm

Without FOPs ~ 7 000 mm

Example of maximum height of a Scania 8x4, axle distance 4300 mm, mining tipper with canopy fulfilling FOPS requirement. Please consult your Scania dealer for this figure and other dimensions of other Scania models Body raise and lower time: Normally 25+15 s depending on body type and supplier. Please consult your Scania dealer for an accurate figure.

Travel and brake performance

The diagrams shows one powertrain combination. Please ask your Scania dealer for diagrams of your specific combination. Start in the right diagram and choose your GTW. Go straight up until you reach the inclination line of your choice. Go left in a straight line until you reach the gradeability curve. The gear used is marked above the line. Go straight down and read the maximum constant velocity that can be kept.
