Back from the Grave!

Members will be interested – and a trifle bemused – to learn that your committee met for
some time in the last few days. The agenda called for the winding up of the club, but
the outcome was dramatically different!

All members reported there had been a groundswell of opinion calling for the
continuation of a racing “luncheon” , held annually in conjunction with the Wellington
Cup. Additionally there has been a very strong demand for a focused sports luncheon.

And result?

Subject to the continued support of the Wellington Racing Club, we will stage a Cup
lunch next year at Trentham.

Then, on the Friday prior to the French test, we will hold a test luncheon. It is planned
to hold the lunch at the West Plaza. If we overflow that venue, we will consider
something much larger in the future. (So pencil in June 19 2009 for the test lunch.)

And speaking of the future, the long term aim is to hold a huge World Cup luncheon as
part of the 2011 World Cup Wellington promotion. We will be aiming at a BIG venue,
with direct contact being made with the relevant travel agents to target the widest
possible international representation.

So, fellow members, the news of our death was premature! We won’t continue to fight
with the bi-monthly programme. Demand just wasn’t there. Rather, we will be back in
touch before the French Test at the Stadium.
