EMGstandsforelectromyogram Itismeasurementofelectricalpotentialscreatedbythecontractionof muscles. TypicalsurfaceEMGsignalsforlargemuscles,suchasthebicep,are around12mVinamplitude. EMGsignalscontainfrequenciesrangingfrom10Hzorlowerupto1kHz orhigher. ToobserveanEMGsignal,weneedtobuildadifferentialamplifierwith highcommonmoderejection Thedominantcommonmodevoltagesignalsonourbodiesisusuallya60 Hzsinewavethatiscapacitively coupledtousfromthe120VACwiringin thewalls. Werejectthissignalbylookingatthedifferenceinvoltagebetweentwo nearbypointsontheskinoverthemuscleofinterest. Wewillalsowanttouseacircuitthedrawsnearlyzerocurrentfromthe p leads, ,sincedccurrentp passedthrough g EMGelectrodescanleadto input largedcoffsetsanddegradethelongtermusefulnessoftheelectrodes.
