Gorgeous Geek Chapter XLIV: A Partner And a Pet

Chapter XLIV: A Partner And a Pet

Yo Tiffany. The Chinese girl met a charming grin from her familiar classmate Bo. She was sitting on the bleachers near the field where the football team usually met up after they were done changing. Ever since Alejandro came back to practice yesterday, all the football players set the record for changing quickly, including Bo. Hey, said Tiffany with a calm smile. That was quick. The Beast and all, said Bo, widening his grin. What are you doing here? I heard about how Tristan gave Jin his good luck during nutrition today, said Tiffany, reading over her notes in the black binder. I want to talk to Tristan personally about his thoughts on the Jin Song Phenomenon. Tristan won't talk to you, said Bo with a shake of his head. Why not? asked Tiffany with frown. Bo shrugged. With the upcoming football game this Friday, Tristan refuses to do anything but concentrate on practice. You should talk to him during nutrition or lunch instead, Tiffany. I'll see him nutrition tomorrow then, said Tiffany, closing her binder and standing up. She noticed Bo grinning at her. Is there something you need, Bo? I'm amused you gave up so easily. Tiffany flushed slightly. I don't want to waste time on a hopeless cause. I have so many other groups to keep track of and so many rumors and information to gather. I hope you don't mind me saying this but, said Bo, holding his hand against his chin now. You make it sound like a job to be the leader of the Asian Gossip Girls. Tiffany didn't say anything. She went down the steps and up to Bo instead. Isn't one of the reasons why school is so fun is thanks to hanging out with friends? I suppose, said Tiffany in a monotone. Bo chuckled. Then, shouldn't you do that more often with Jennifer and Eunice instead of stressing yourself out with all this rumor business? You don't understand, said Tiffany with a sigh. I have to do it or else... Or else? asked Bo challenging her. Not willing to give in, Tiffany shook her head with a forced smile at Bo. No, I'm the only one who can do it so I'll do it until the day I graduate. After Tiffany left in a hurry and headed over to the boys' gym next, Bo shook his head at her answer and grinned after her. That's Tiffany for you... always looking out and helping Jin from the background without him knowing it. **************************************************** If there was one thing in the world right now that Jordan did not want to see when he came to the tennis courts with Jin, it was the sight of another man touching Roselle. Thankfully, that didn't happen or else, he would completely lose it then and there. Instead, this boy had his hands on Wendy Wilshire, his ex-girlfriend, which made it almost as bad. That's pretty hot, Kirk, said Wendy in between one of her laughing fits. Kirk had his left arm around her shoulders while he pointed something out to her. I know right? I rock this shit. You should try it sometime to mesmerize some fucking moron to fall for you like a man slave.

Wendy laughed loudly. Oh man! I totally should try it! Ask Jez to teach it to you, said Kirk, lowering his head to look up at Wendy. She's the master at this distant flirtatious crap. She fucking hooked me in with one silent look across the room in fucking history class. The twins hate you, you know that? asked Wendy, punching Kirk playfully. Kirk felt the punch and tried to not show it. Those mother fuckers. I love their Filipino asses since they're fun but of course they want to beat the living daylights out of me cause I'm such an ass wipe to them last year. You're an ass hole to everyone in general, said Wendy, rolling her eyes. You're such a man slut too. Have you no concience? Concience, said Kirk, allowing a snicker. Nice one, honey. At this conversation, Jin glanced over at Jordan to see that the pretty boy looked pretty angry. Instead of going over to them though, Jordan ignored them and went over to Roselle instead. Roselle just got here before them so she didn't have time to take out her laptop yet. Jordan greeted her before he hugged her from behind and around the shoulders, just in case she kicked him a few feet away like last time. Hey, said Roselle with a smile. Hey Roselle, said Jordan, tightening his hug. He looked over at Wendy and Kirk and elevated his voice. My beautiful, devoted, and nice girlfriend. Like Jordan wanted, this caught Wendy's attention so she looked over at him, glaring. Jin wanted to stop whatever they were doing but before he could say anything, Jezebelle appeared out of nowhere and covered his mouth with her hands. Judging by the look on her face, Jezebelle was entertained by this battle between Jordan and Wendy, very much like in the car last Saturday. Are you on crack? asked Roselle in her usual honest manner, looking up at Jordan. Devoted? Beautiful? Okay, I'll give you those. But nice? Did you hit your head against Jin in the locker room or something? Jordan blushed. No... Wendy laughed and waved at Roselle. Hey there Roselle! Roselle blinked but she waved back. Hey Wendy. What are you doing here? The boys' basketball team is in trouble thanks to a certain someone quitting, said Wendy, trying hard not to look at Jordan. So the boys are taking over the whole boys' gym. Coach told the girls to practice in the ugly basketball courts outside of the gym instead. And here I am. Cool, said Roselle, smiling. We won yesterday! Nice! You're no fun at all, bitch, said Kirk, standing up and interrupting the two girls. Kirk smirked at Wendy. You should have said you came here to see me. What a waste. Wendy laughed loudly. Shit Kirk. Shut the fuck up already. I should be going now then, said Kirk, picking up his backpack and heading out. Later now, kids. One second there, Kelly, said Coach Marshall, standing in Kirk's way. Kirk didn't look like he cared much whether Coach was there or not but he stopped anyways. You're supposed to be part of the Varsity team. Kirk winked. Cool. See you next spring then Coach. You should at least play Doubles with Song today. At that comment, Kirk turned to Jin who was staring at him blankly next to Jezebelle. Of course, the first thought that came to Kirk's mind was that even Jezebelle's

tennis outfit matched with Jin's tennis shorts. Kirk did not understand why someone as cool as Jezebelle would want to be with someone like Jin. Not too long ago, Kirk reminded himself that Jin was a geek who did nothing but play video games in school. Even if he stopped now and started wearing normal clothes, Kirk was still not impressed. Out of all people, why must he be Doubles with this lame boy? No can do Coach, said Kirk, shaking his head innocently. I don't know the rules of Doubles well enough. You'll learn today then, said Coach, turning his baseball cap backwards again. Coach indicated at Jin and Jordan to come over. Since Kelly might be your future Doubles partner Song, you need to show off your skills today in a match. You need to prove to him that you're a decent tennis player and enough to be on Varsity. How about you and Greene play against Crawford and Grim? Jordan and I? asked Jin, astonished. Jordan gaped at Coach. You mean I don't have to run laps for once Coach? If you prefer running laps, Greene, I'll get Song another partner. No! cried Jordan, shaking at the thought of laps. I'll play Doubles! The two boys nodded to one another before they went to the bench to drop off their backpacks before going off to tell the news to Rick and Grim. As for Jezebelle, she went up to Coach with an innocent look on her face. So why those two? asked Jezebelle, pretending to be interested in Jin and Jordan. Coach shrugged. Publicity. Publicity? asked Jezebelle with wide, curious eyes. Two pretty boys on the same court to gather the attention, said Coach with a hearty laughter. That can't be a bad thing can it? Greene's used to it and Song should get used to it by now already. Jezebelle clapped her hands for a few seconds. Of course. Why didn't I think of that? Smirking, Jezebelle lifted the tip of her hat up. But wouldn't it be bad publicity if Doubles Two totally owned them? That won't happen, said Coach confidently, walking over and sitting down in his chair. Yvette was next to him, checking on the girls' schedule for future tennis games. How can you be so certain? asked Jezebelle, glancing at Yvette once. Coach leaned back in his chair. Watch this match for yourself. You'll see. Meanwhile, while Jin and Jordan were warming up against Rick and Grim, Kirk didn't leave the area yet and instead, stuck around to see what Coach was thinking in throwing these two boys together on the same team. This should be entertaining, said Kirk, returning back to his spot next to Wendy and dropping his backpack off. Let's see how much fail these two will be together. Wendy frowned and rubbed her spiky bracelet. Jin won't fail as much with Jordan around though. I beg to differ, said Kirk, lifting a brow. Isn't that overhyped Jordan Singles Four? Yeah, said Wendy immediately. Jez's boyfriend isn't even officially on the fucking Varsity team yet. It's so fucking obvious who the real failure is around here. Kirk threw his legs on the fence and leaned back. Whatever though. I like to see those gay asses duke it out on coart. Kirky, said Jezebelle, joining them on the benches and throwing her arms around Wendy protectively. Wendy's mine. Find your own bitch. Wendy pouted at Jezebelle. Jealous? Just a quick reminder on territorial issues, said Jezebelle, fluttering her pretty

eyelashes. Kirk laughed at her. Wendy continued to pout cutely. Well Kirky? Fuck it, said Kirk, throwing his head backwards and closing his eyes. No point starting shit with an ally. Including the twins? asked Jezebelle, making sure. Kirk waved it off. I'm the pants in that relationship. I know when to fuck off. Waiting for Wendy's laughing fit to die down, Jezebelle beamed at him and said, Good. Now, let's see how amazing the Boys' Varsity Tennis team is or is not. Jezebelle had a curl of her hair wrapped around her finger now. Will I be seeing the dark one or not? Like Jezebelle predicted, it did not take much for Jin to become a completely different person. All he needed to hear from Coach Marshall was that this was a real challenge match so both teams had to play their hardest to 'win this game'. They had just finished rallying so they were now stretching on their respective sides of the court. I'm glad I practiced some tennis over the summer, said Jordan, stretching his arms behind his neck. It's not like I need practice to beat those fools, said Jin, pulling one of his legs up to stretch. Hearing this, Jordan turned to Jin with wide eyes. Judging by the rally, they're out of shape so they'll be, Jin smirked confidently. The perfect victims for me practicing the slice Fi-Fi is so proud of. Are you okay Jin? asked Jordan, worried. Jin pointed the racket at Jordan with a serious expression on his face. I don't need the useless chitchat from you right now. You better watch out for my back or else I won't do it for you. Jin laughed to himself at the shocked look on Jordan's face now. I want to win so if you drag me down, I'll take the whole court by myself if I have to. I won't let you down then, said Jordan, thinking it was best if he didn't ask any questions in regards to Jin's changed nature. I'll make sure we'll win this match. Satisfied with this answer, Jin winked at Jordan. Good. Let's beat this game. Feeling his heart racing, Jordan tried to cool down as he followed Jin to the net where the other two were waiting. Why did Jin wink at him like that? It made him extremely uncomfortable. More than that, Jin was depending on him to win this match. Jordan told himself not to let Jin down. Even if Wendy and the others were not watching them right now from outside the fence, Jordan still felt a large amount of pressure. Of all people, he cared what Jin thought of him. They were Doubles partners after all so they must support each other. For the first time, Jordan was determined to win. Yo Grim, said Rick worriedly, noticing the two boys conversing to themselves. They look tough. Stick to my calculations, said Grim, shifting his glasses up. We'll be fine. That's easy for you to say, said Rick, throwing his arms about. I haven't touched a racket in months! I can't follow your calculations like we used to. It should take about a game or two for you to get back in shape, Crawford, said Grim in a confident voice. Rick didn't have that same confidence right now. Besides, this is Jordan and Jin's first time playing together right? It shouldn't be that tough to find their weakness and exploit it. That's not exactly correct, said Venus from the court next to them. Rick and Grim turned to her, confused. Venus pouted. Grim, you're a senior. Don't you remember when Jin and Jordan joined the tennis team two years ago? Same day as Roselle, said Grim automatically. What about it? Venus tapped a finger to her bright lips. Didn't they completely murder the other team playing Doubles together in JV in their first game in freshman year?

Even though Rick scratched his head at Venus's words, Grim's eyes widened. No, she's right. I remember now. Wait. What yo? asked Rick, still lost. Grim frowned. Jin and Jordan were Doubles partners in freshman year for three games before Coach separated them. Jordan went Singles by himself and Jin was paired up with someone else. Oh! I remember! said Rick, pulling down his hoody in surprise. Didn't Coach have to separate them after three games because Jordan had a hard time concentrating on the game with Jin around? Something like that, agreed Grim. Shit, said Rick, hiding under his hood again. Shit, shit, shit. Let's not lose our cool before the match begins, said Grim solemnly. We'll try our best and whatever happens happen. I'm your partner, Crawford. We'll be fine. Rick frowned. I hope so. ******************************************** After fifth period, Kristian told Rin that he was going to be busy for a while so they couldn't see each other during the weekdays anymore. However, they'll still be together on Fridays and Saturdays if possible. Surprised at his decision, Rin had nothing to say. Even though on the inside she was upset, she didn't show it on the outside. Actually, she did the complete opposite. Rin told him how happy she was that he wasn't going to bother her much anymore and that it was better if they did their own things for a while. All the while, she forgot to tell him that she was tutoring Jordan from now on. I'll continue to call you at around ten every day, Rin-chan, said Kristian before he left for sixth period. So you better not cheat on me in the meantime. At Rin's angry face, Kristian added quickly, I'm joking. Lousy joke, said Rin to herself. Suddenly, she noticed that only Adrian was with her. Everyone else disappeared. What happen? Adrian scowled. They went to see some tennis match. Why? The same reason why they went to see that Jin match a week ago. Rin's eyes widened. Wait. Who's playing this time? I'm not sure, said Adrian, gazing at her intently. Your best friend is one of them though. What is the deal with everyone and him nowadays? I don't know, said Rin innocently even though she knew why. Smiling at Adrian, Rin held up her saxophone. I'll stay here and practice with you Adrian! You're already a master at the sax, said Adrian, waving it off. You're really here to motivate the others to practice harder. You don't have to stay here with me if you don't want to. You should run off like the rest of them. I feel bad though, said Rin, upset. Isn't that your friend from track? asked Adrian, indicating at Vance. Rin waved at Vance, who didn't wave back. He looks grouchy for whatever reason. He always looks like that though... Adrian lifted a brow. Interesting. I'll be back in a second, said Rin, placing her saxophone carefully in its case. I want to talk to him about something. Adrian nodded his head in approval. Thanks for the support, Adrian! You're the best! I admire you the most! With that, Rin ran off and jogged next to Vance with a smile on her face. Vance didn't smile back but he did nod to indicate he took note of her presence. Back to the starting

line, Vance left the tracks to sit down with Rin in the nearby bleachers. Most of his track team went off to see the tennis match except for Vance and two other members. Is there a problem? asked Vance carefully. Rin blushed. You know me too well... Is it a Jin or Kristian problem this time? asked Vance with an uncaring look on his face. Rin frowned and lowered her eyes. Guilty now, Vance added, I didn't mean to sound cold or mean with that. It's fact. I know, said Rin with a heavy sigh. I don't want to talk about Kristian with you though. I'm always bothering you with my problems. I feel so bad about it. Can't I ask for your opinion on something? Sure but don't expect a sugar-coated answer, said Vance bluntly. That's fine. That's why I talk to you in the first place. Well? Rin glanced over at the tennis area. I'll be tutoring Jordan Greene from now on. Don't you hate his guts? asked Vance, amazed. Scowling, Rin answered, Yes, I did. I used to hate his guts but now, he's not that bad after all. He's not a real attention whore like I thought he was. Rin shook her head. He's actually an ordinary boy who wants to change for the better. After he told me he wants to do better in school, how am I supposed to say no to that? You're soft and weak, said Vance, glancing away. I know. Vance shrugged. I would have said no and leave him. I should have... Since you didn't, said Vance, peering up at Rin. What are you going to do now? You can't possibly think about going through with this are you? I was going to, said Rin, surprised at Vance's questions. Is that bad? You have a boyfriend, said Vance, counting on his fingers. You live with only your mother. The hottest boy in our school according to the idiotic fangirls is Jordan Greene. He had a long record of dating girls and breaking up with them or so I heard. You two will be alone in your room. Does none of that add up to you Rin? I'll be fine, said Rin, smiling at how concerned Vance was for her. I mean, Jordan and Kristian are friends. He wouldn't do anything to his friend's girlfriend right? Boys are not like that. How naive, said Vance, scowling. It's just tutoring, said Rin in reminder. I tutor Jin and Bo before remember? But they're Jin and Bo, said Vance, narrowing his eyes at her. You shouldn't even trust me in your room alone and I'm sure we're closer than you and Jordan Greene. Rin was upset now. Vance, when did you become so overprotective? Ever since you followed me to the depths of an unknown neighborhood without thinking? asked Vance, leaning toward Rin. She jumped back much to his amusement. Anyways, you be careful. Rin nodded and then glanced away. Besides, I'm not pretty enough for boys to want to do that to me so there's nothing to worry about! Vance chuckled. Heh. What's so funny? asked Rin, glaring at Vance. In his most apathetic face possible, Vance said, Nothing. You keep believing that Rin. You have no idea what boys think of sometimes. Vance chuckled again and went down the stairs. Rin was not amused. Speaking of Jordan Greene, he's playing tennis with Jin. You

should at least see how much epic fail they can make together. Jin and Jordan, said Rin, gasping. Boy love! I must see! Boy love? asked Vance, but Rin was already gone. If only she can run that fast all those other times... By the time Rin arrived at the tennis area, there were already crowds of people watching. There was literally no space left for Rin. Unlike last time, there was no Bo or Kristian to save her a spot. Disappointed, Rin knew this would be tough for her to watch since she was so short. Much to her dismay, Jezebelle was watching her with an amused look on her face. Rin glared at Jezebelle. Was the mature-looking girl mocking her? Rinny, said Jezebelle, motioning to Rin with her hand. Rin went up to Jezebelle. The people nearby moved out of the way. Curious little one aren't you? I'm older than you, said Rin, scowling. Robbie, Jojo, said Jezebelle, glancing over at the twins sitting next to her. On Jezebelle's other side, Wendy was chatting with Kirk about her bracelet. Xuan Lan was sitting on Juliet's lap right below Jezebelle. You guys are twins remember? Make it work for Rinny here. She's my babe. Will do, Jez! Will do Belle! Hi Rin! Hello Hamada! The twins sat closer together to leave Rin room to sit in between them and Jezebelle. Miraculously, since Rin was so small and Jezebelle was so skinny, this worked for both of them. Still, Jezebelle had to use both Wendy and Rin as arm rests for her arms. Rin didn't mind this as much as long as she could watch Jin and Jordan. Right now, they were receiving serves from Grim. Jezebelle leaned over to Rin and smirked. Rinny, it's been awhile darling, said Jezebelle deviously. Miss me? Rin shook her head. Not one bit! Jezebelle giggled evilly so Rin added, You haven't been doing weird things to Jin have you? Jezebelle pouted innocently. Maybe. Maybe not. Fi-Fi! cried Rin in warning. The other day, he was drunk and- Jin would never drink, said Rin defensively. Jezebelle thought about her story. He was horny and- Jin's never like that, said Rin immediately, rolling her eyes. You know him too well then, said Jezebelle, rethinking. I was being cute and innocent in twintails and he took me down right after he was playing a competitive video game. This time, Rin didn't interrupt because in her head, this might have happened especially if Jin was still in that other competitive mindset. Jezebelle made the most hurt expression and wrapped her arms around Rin, sobbing. I'm not a virgin anymore, Rinny. Look what your best friend did to me. Really? cried the twins, shocked. Rin groaned. She's playing you idiots! Oh, said the twins, looking at one another. In other words, said Jezebelle, removing herself from Rin and rolling her eyes. Nothing happen between us. This is fried bacon we're talking about. There's no way he'll do anything to me. Rin sighed in relief. Thank goodness. Though he did leave me home alone with Jordan Greene...

What? cried Rin in outrage. Everyone was glaring at her so she quieted down. You're kidding? What did you do to Jordan then? Jezebelle giggled again. Nothing at all. Let's pay attention to the game shall we? Scowling, Rin said, You better tell me later, you bitch. Right back at you, said Jezebelle, winking. About how far you and Shiratori went. Is he the fast or the slow type? Rin gaped and insisted that nothing was going on. Jezebelle winked playfully. Right. Keep saying that Shortie. Hey, said Kirk, sneaking a look at Rin. It's the infamous Rin Hamada. I'm famous? asked Rin, blinking. Kristian's my idol, said Kirk with a playful smile. And you're his woman. I'm not his woman, said Rin, scowling. Who are you? Kirk Kelly, said Kirk, offering his hand to Rin who shook it warily. A jock that quit being a jock because jocks suck major dicks. How are you? Rin blinked. I hate jocks too? And I'm fine? We have something in common, said Kirk quickly. Catholic? No, said Rin immediately, stunned at such a question. Not even close. Kirk smirked. Good. Stop distracting her, Kirky, said Jezebelle, rolling her eyes and slapping his hand away. She needs to watch this match! Suddenly, Jezebelle remembered something. Actually, my gummy bear is her best friend. What is this? A soap opera? asked Kirk, throwing his head back. Forget it. As long as you're not Catholic, I can live with anything really. Rolling her eyes again, Jezebelle forced Rin to watch the tennis match instead of at Kirk. Rin did not expect to see Jin and Jordan to be ahead of Grim and Rick since Jin was in JV and Jordan was in Singles, not Doubles. The boys looked so beautiful when they slapped hands after a winning shot that Rin felt gleeful, despite her not wanting Jordan to be closer to Jin than her. Yet again, the moment was so short and so sweet. They did this in passing too! When they lost a point, they gave each other comforting looks as well. Sometimes, slaps on the back too. Of course, Rin saw more in what was going on between the boys than what was actually going on. They're incredible, said Yvette next to Coach with wide eyes. Coach chuckled. Of course. Why are they this good and not together? asked Yvette, outraged. Coach pulled his sunglasses down to hide his eyes from Yvette's scrutinizing stare. We might be able to win league for both the boys' and girls' team this year at this rate! Greene and Song are perfect partners, agreed Coach. But they'll run into longterm problems like they did before. Like? asked Yvette curiously. Coach Marshall gazed intently at yet another winning volley by Jordan. It's Greene mostly. He is better at tennis than Song but he lacks endurance and motivation to win. Greene is very much like Young when it comes to tennis. Both of them are so lazy. Then why is he doing so well now? It must be because he wants to win this match for whatever reason, said Coach, shrugging. He watched as the score cards changed to four games for Jordan and Jin to two games for Grim and Rick. Song is not doing too bad either. I wonder what has gotten into him? Can it be thanks to Tilly becoming his girlfriend? Yvette tapped her glittery pink pen to her cheek. Or maybe you fail to notice his potential all this time.

I'm not perfect, said Coach defensively to Yvette. The Korean girl shrugged. I never thought you were, Coach. On the court, Jin missed a shot and growled to himself for losing a point this early after winning four games so quickly. Even though Jin was tempted to slam his racket against the ground, he managed to stop himself when he met Jordan's eyes. Jin smirked at the white boy. Jordan was not that bad actually, Jin thought to himself, since he covered Jin well every time Jin was forced to go to the front. He was a good partner. If they keep this up, they should be able to win the last two games easily. It's okay, said Jordan with a smile. Next point. Yeah, said Jin, returning the smile. Then, Jin thought to himself, I can't believe I keep losing to that girlfriend of mine. Since she's watching now, I'll prove to her that I'm better than how I played with her. With Jordan by my side, I cannot afford to lose. He's the best partner I have ever played with in high school. For Jordan, he kept on thinking, I can't let Jin down. It'll be very embarrassing if I were to lose a point and let them catch up. What will Jin think of me then? Fortunately, Jordan paid enough attention to the serve to return it with ease. Jin was ready in the front to the right. The ball went back and forth between Jordan and Grim for a while before Grim smacked the ball high up in the air. Jordan backed up to ready himself when he suddenly met Jin's eyes. His heart raced. His face flushed. He missed the ball. Shit, said Jordan, realizing that they were down two points. Sorry Jin. Come on, said Jin in a low voice. You're better than that, Jordan. Focus. All right, said Jordan, faking a smile at Jin. Inwardly, he kept repeating to himself, What the fuck is the matter with me? Jin and Jordan did not hold out long enough before they lost the game to Grim and Rick. Since Grim and Rick were regaining their previous tennis skills by the minute, Jin and Jordan knew they must settle this in the following two games. They couldn't afford a tie now that Rick and Grim were at three games and they are four. During the water break, Jordan received an encouraging word from Roselle. Jordan thanked her. However, his good mood disappeared the minute Jezebelle came up to the fence to Jin. Jin smirked at her playfully. It's not really you, is it? asked Jezebelle in a delighted voice. It's the other you. That doesn't make any sense, said Jin, amused. What do you want Fi-Fi? Jezebelle giggled at how direct he was. You better win or else you'll never be able to defeat me. You lost to me twice remember? And I know how much you hate to lose. Shut up, said Jin, uncapping his water bottle. You just got lucky. Such a sore loser. Jin shook his head. Watch. I'll beat you one day. Someday then, said Jezebelle in satisfaction. At least, this time, whether you win or lose, you don't have to kiss little old me like last time. After Jezebelle left, Jin drank half of his water bottle in one gulp before he smiled at Jordan. Jordan was so lost. Jin did not sound like himself at all just now. Jezebelle didn't treat him the same as all those other times. Unsure, Jordan decided he should forget this for now and concentrate on the match instead. Now, he was even more motivated to win since Jezebelle was mocking Jin. He didn't want Jin to lose face to his girlfriend, even if he mildly disliked her. You, said Jezebelle, noticing Kristian in her seat. Get the fuck off, Shiratori. Oh, it's your seat Tilly? asked Kristian, mocking innocence. He glanced at Rin next to him. So sorry but I don't feel like leaving.

Wendy, said Jezebelle, glaring at her friend. Wendy was offended. What can I do? He wanted to be with Rin Hamada. Kristian, said Rin in a stern voice, kicking his leg. Go away. How cold, said Kristian, pouting. It's her seat first, said Rin, getting up and grabbing Kristian's arm. Let's go. You're leaving already Rinny? asked Jezebelle, feigning sadness. We'll watch it from a different angle, said Rin with a soft smile at Jezebelle. Kristian remained silent and left the area first. I know we haven't gotten along well but I really do hope you understand that you're not going to get any satisfaction from helping Jin to the top. He'll be miserable up there. Don't you care at all? Jezebelle pretended to think for a second. No. One day, said Rin, tossing Jezebelle a sad look. You'll understand how special Jin is. Maybe then, it's already too late for someone selfish like you. Rin narrowed her eyes. And here I was hoping we can be friends but I guess not. Waiting for Rin to leave the area, Jezebelle glared at the people around her. Who spilled the beans to her? No one did, said Wendy, wrapping her arms in front of her chest. She saw Roselle talking to Jordan and she instantly remembered something. Jezebelle pouted and looked over at Roselle, who was with the other tennis girls. I underestimated little miss Singles Three there. Wendy observed Jezebelle closely. What are you up to, Leader? Exactly what Rin Hamada said, said Jezebelle, sitting down and crossing her legs. Helping my California roll to the top and keeping him there. That's what I'm up to. I'm sure you already know that, Wendy. She's lying, said Wendy to Kirk. I know she is. That's not all there is to it. So impatient girl, said Kirk, relaxing in his seat. Wait for it. It'll be fantastic. In a few minutes, Rick and Grim learned that a competitive Jin and a competitive Jordan who were working together on the same team was something that they were no match for without their prior tennis skills from last spring. Also, Rick and Grim knew that none of the people in the audience were really on their side when two of the most popular and good-looking boys were together against them. It was a hopeless situation and the atmosphere made it worse. Once Jin and Jordan got five games on their side, Rick and Grim felt defeated. If only someone was on their side, it would have been different but in the end, it was obvious who the winners were. Hiding underneath his hood out of shame, Rick shook hands with Jin and Jordan quickly before he cursed to himself and left the courts in a hurry. Grim congratulated the boys and said that he would study on becoming better teammates with Rick in the meantime. Right after Rick left, everyone ran inside the congratulate Jordan and Jin. Coach Marshall stepped in and shooed them away a few minutes afterwards though. Good job, Jordan, said Jin with a satisfying smile. You too, said Jordan, slapping Jin on the shoulder. Moving up to Jordan, Jin whispered, From a man to a man, do you think I should surprise Fi-Fi with a kiss? Jordan stuttered for a few seconds before Jin retreated and smirked. Kidding. She'll slap me before I even get the chance. Who are you? asked Jordan at last, astonished by that comment. Jin of course, said Jin, amused. If you'll excuse me, I have to change. Jin, said Jordan, stopping Jin from leaving the courts. Jin turned around and lifted a brow. Would you mind giving me a message in the locker room?

As if those were the magic words, Jin smiled normally, Sure, Jordan. After winning that match, I'll do it until you tell me to stop! I didn't say anything mean to you did I? No... not anything I can think of. I'm glad then, said Jin happily, leaving with his racket over his shoulder. A bunch of people surrounded him the minute he left the courts but he simply thanked them and moved on, looking for Jezebelle. Jordan watched as Jin was reunited with Jezebelle and the two of them began to talk about something. Sighing, Jordan felt left out. Similarly, Roselle went on the courts and congratulated him. Thanks, said Jordan with a weak smile. You should ask Coach to let you play with Jin for Doubles! At that suggestion, Jordan frowned. I don't know if that's a good idea. You guys beat Doubles Two! said Roselle, gaping. I think it's a great idea! It's okay really. I'll go suggest it to Coach this instant, said Roselle, hyped up. Holding Roselle's hands, Jordan said softly, I'll be happy with a kiss from you. That's all I want right now... more than anything in the world. Roselle blinked and laughed. Okay! That was easy, said Jordan, leaning toward her. You sure? Sure, why not? Laughing, Jordan lowered his head and kissed Roselle on the lips. She returned it without hesitating. Even though they weren't romantically interested in each other, Jordan thought it was satisfying enough. After Jordan was done, he smiled at her and promised he would call her later. In the lockerroom, Jordan was overjoyed at the sight of Jin. They proceeded to talk about the match and what to do afterwards. In front of his basketball coach, Jordan apologized profusely for quitting the team on impulse and he would do anything to get back on the team. Jin was standing outside the office, waiting for Jordan and supporting from afar. In the end, Jordan worked out a deal with his Coach. Until their first game, Jordan had to practice basketball during sixth period like the rest of his team. He had to take a break from tennis until then. Also, he had to apologize the whole team for doing this unexpectedly and a few weeks before their game. Personally, Jordan thought he got off the hook easy this time. Thanks Jin, said Jordan, leaving the office. If I knew it was this easy, I should have done it earlier. Jin smiled. It's okay. As long as you're back on the team, it's good. Jin... said Jordan shyly. I really want to know why you act like that during our tennis match. It was kind of spontaneous. Suddenly, there was a sad look on Jin's face. Seeing this expression on Jin, Jordan was sorry he asked the question. However, Jin sighed and shrugged it off. They walked together back to the boys' gym. It was empty now since everyone went to their respective teams. Sitting on the bench, Jin clasped his hands together. Jordan, said Jin softly. Only Rin-chan knows this so please... I won't tell anyone, said Jordan quickly, sitting down next to Jin. What's up? I don't think I'm a really nice person... That's impossible, said Jordan, laughing at Jin's words. You're Jin. That's who you are. How can you be anything but nice? Jin shook his head. No, I'm not joking. You see... whenever I do something nice for someone, I'm very conscious about it. Jin was trembling slightly. There's always a voice in my head that tells me whether I'm doing something is nice or not.

I don't understand, said Jordan, observing Jin closely with a worried look. For example, when I gave Tristan that twenty last Friday, said Jin sadly, trembling now. I wanted to help the other boy from being bullied as well as solve Tristan's money problem. However, while I did that, that voice kept laughing at me and telling me that I could have saved that money for a new video game next month. Jin elevated his eyes and stared at Jordan. I hear that most people can hear their conscience telling them not to do bad things. Rin-chan and Bo are the same. Then why does my conscience keep telling me to do such selfish things? That's because you're not saintly, said Jordan suddenly. Jin widened his eyes. You're not God, Jin. You're human like all of us. You want to do things for yourself. You want to act for yourself. You just don't act on those thoughts like the rest of us. It's like you discipline yourself to be like this and it's working. Does that mean... said Jin softly under his breath. I'm a fake then? No, of course not, said Jordan firmly. I can't say for anyone but myself but we live with other people so we have to respect those around us. This is why we keep lots of thoughts and actions to ourselves. A lot of us want to kill those lousy teachers but do we act upon it? No. Does that mean we're fake or not being true to ourselves? Not really. But Roselle for example says exactly what she thinks... Even if that's true, said Jordan with a sigh. She doesn't always act on what she thinks. I'm positive of that. It's perfectly natural for you to have these selfish thoughts, Jin. You shouldn't be so mad at yourself over that. You don't think less of me then? asked Jin curiously. Not at all. Like I said, it's natural. You met him though, said Jin, laughing weakly to himself. That's me. Well, more specifically, that's me when I let the voice in my head take over. I don't try to do anything to stop that voice so I take a back seat and let him do what he wants. I found out a few years back that he is actually a lot better at video games or anything that requires competitiveness than I am. That's why I let him be in charge whenever I want to win. Oh, said Jordan, thinking. Are you sure it's not some sort of split personality disorder or some case like that? I don't think so, said Jin, surprised at Jordan's question. There's only one me. I guess there are many sides of me. I mean he can cook the same things as me. He likes the same things as me. We're the same really except he does whatever he wants without caring what others think of him I guess. He seems to be more into girls as well. Jin laughed. Well, you know... Jin widened his smile. Like you said, I can't just kill teachers I hate. It's the same with girls. I can't just do perverted things to girls. He's in charge of that as well. So you do like real life girls after all? asked Jordan, amused now. I guess, said Jin, shrugging. Well, except for my cousins and Rin-chan. They're not real girls to me. Jordan laughed. Rin Hamada will be pleased to know you're asexual to her. She knows already, said Jin firmly. And she to me as well. How did it go with you asking her to tutor you by the way? Succeeded, said Jordan proudly. Cool, said Jin, taking out his cell phone and handing it to Jordan. You better record her cell phone number. She's actually okay when it comes to picking up her cell phone. Though, she rarely answers to strange phone numbers or restricted numbers so leave

her a voicemail if that happens. Thanks, said Jordan, adding Rin's number quickly. I'd better get going now. I don't want to be late for basketball practice. Oh, sorry, said Jin, accepting his cell phone back from Jordan. I'll be off to attend to my team manager duties. I'll see you later Jordan. Later, said Jordan, waving after Jin. Once Jin was gone, Jordan had a serious face on. Now, time to apologize to the team... ******************************************** Engagement rings sure are expensive, said Kristian, looking through the prices of the ones in the Romano jewelry shop near his bank. The woman at the counter kept tossing Kristian a bizarre look. Finally, Kristian gave one back and said, Yes, I'm seventeen. Do you have a problem with that? Do you have a particular price range in mind? asked the woman carefully. Knowing my girlfriend, said Kristian, walking back and forth. Simple is best. She probably doesn't know the differences in gem carats either. And yet, Kristian paused and stared at a luxurious white gold engagement ring. I can't be cheap with this either. You have a good eye, sir, said the woman politely, stepping forward and taking the ring out of the glass. This one is simple and elegant and has a nice design on it as well. It's a princess diamond and looks very young too. Best of all, it's only $4109.50. Over four thousand dollars, said Kristian, repeating after her. You see. My girlfriend has such small, soft hands so maybe if you can lower the price- I'm sorry but that price is already a bargain. Leaving the store, Kristian went to his bank account to check how much he had in there. Right now, he had eight hundred dollars in there and this was the money he wasn't allowed to use except for emergencies in regards to the house or to Jinx. Only two hundred dollars were really his to use. If he asked his father nicely, he should be able to get three hundred dollars and that was it. Five dollars to start off wasn't that bad at least. Like he thought from the very beginning, he really had to get a job and work for this. Kristian didn't mind though since like his old man used to tell him, a woman was only worth it if he worked hard for her. Since the cheapest ring in the store was around three thousand six hundred dollars, Kristian decided on the one that caught his eye. Now, he had to make four thousand two hundred dollars before senior year. It was perfectly possible in Kristian's head if he worked four or five days a week. This was the reason why he told Rin that he would be busy for a while. He had to work now. More than that, he wanted a job between five to ten o'clock since it was the time he was done with detention and before he had to call her. However, the problem was that he had to find a job that flexible with hours and payment. There was only one person Kristian could really turn to for that. Hey Crystal, said Kristian over the phone. Do you know where your dad may be? I need to talk to him about something. If there was one person the bandmembers were quite used to seeing, it was none other than Kristian Shiratori, the nephew of their guitarist. In the middle of their breaks, they noticed Kristian sitting outside their recording studio, waving innocently at them. Their manager shrugged innocently. Really now, said Linus, the drummer, leaving the room and coming up to Kristian. How the fuck do you keep getting in? To be fair, said Kristian, bored. It's not that hard getting past the security. When girls are in fangirl mode, they don't use most of their brains so of course they haven't

discovered a solid-proof way of sneaking in. Hey Kristian, said Spencer, the leader of the band. They smacked fists. What's up? Are you here to see your uncle? Kristian smirked. Of course. Hey Jo. Jo or Johnny was the last one to leave the room. Yo. Just got out of detention? I didn't get into detention today, said Kristian, frowning. Kristian licked his lips thoughtfully. For once. I didn't think about it until now. Why wasn't I in detention? It's a vast improvement, said Kristian's Uncle, leaving the room last. He didn't show any sign of surprise to see Kristian either. Like his mother often mentioned, Kristian looked like a younger version of his uncle. We really need to increase security around here. Not that it helps, said Kristian confidently. So, what do you need Kristian? asked Kristian's Uncle, lifting a brow and sitting down in his seat. The other boys did the same, keeping their eyes on Kristian. If it's money, I don't think I can help you. I am saving every last penny for Crystal's college fund. No, it's not money, said Kristian with a sigh. Can't you start a conversation with me like a normal Uncle?
