Chapter XLII: Stuck in Neverland

During lunchtime, Eunice was busy taking pictures of the band members who were practicing even during their break. Eunice noticed that Edwin was playing the violin to himself even though he talked to Bailey a couple of times when she passed by him. Bailey was off to buy a bottle of water when she noticed Eunice. Hello there, said Bailey, greeting Eunice before putting quarters into the vending machine nearby. Hi, said Eunice with a bright smile. Have you heard about how much Frida and Victoria changed in a matter of days? Bailey's eyes widened. I'm not up-to-date with news of the school. I have no idea. You and Joseph Cruz are really into each other, said Eunice kindly. I envy. Slowly, Bailey placed her hand over her heart. Thank you very much Eunice. I'm so glad to hear that though. Do you think there's a chance you'll be friends with Frida again? Surprised at the question, Bailey dropped her eyes to where the water bottle was. She picked it up, smiled to herself, and said softly, We were never not friends. That's good to hear! Nodding, Bailey added, Now, I'll have to wait until she talks to me again. We'll pretend none of this happen and return to how we once were. Good luck, said Eunice, beaming. Thank you, Eunice, said Bailey, uncapping her water bottle. Good luck with whatever you're up to. I have no hope so... Hearing that, Bailey was astonished. Who can say no to someone as sweet as you? That's not it, said Eunice, frowning. I like someone who can't like me back. Is it bad that I still want to be with him? Not at all, said Bailey kindly. It's quite normal for a girl your age. Who is it if you don't mind me asking? Eunice bit her lip. Kristian Shiratori. That may be a tad hard, said Bailey admittedly, recognizing Kristian's name. Though, I think it's too early to give up, Eunice. One day, maybe if you work hard enough, he'll recognize that and appreciate you. I don't know if you can ever win him over completely but that's a step right? You really are as angelic as everyone says, said Eunice in awe. I am not, said Bailey after she took a sip of her water bottle. I'll love to stay here and chat but I have practice I need to tend to. Orchestra seating is coming up and I don't want to lose my spot as second chair.

I understand, said Eunice, hopping up and down. I'll be here taking pictures! Oh all right then, said Bailey with a firm nod before she went back to her cello with her water bottle. However, at the corner of her eyes, she noticed someone behind the boys' gym. There was only one person she knew who hung around there by themselves. This bothered her why he was sitting around there by himself. Hey Bailey, said a boy with slightly long back hair with a green hat. What did he say we have to change for the second measure? Accent the first note, said Bailey quickly, placing her water bottle on her seat. Excuse me again, Odam. Odam blinked twice with his bow on the cello's strings. Okay. If you say so Bailey. Cautiously, Bailey checked her surroundings before she went to the back of the gym. Like she thought, the person who was sitting by himself with his head hidden was none other than Jordan. Feeling bad for him, Bailey went up to him and touched his shoulder softly. Jordan looked up with tears in his eyes. It's not a very good hiding spot if I can find you, said Bailey softly. Bailey, said Jordan, relieved. How are you? Sitting next to him, Bailey peered up, Are you all right Jordan? I'm fine, said Jordan quickly, wiping away his tears. I'm glad it's you of all people. You've seen me cry before. It's nothing new. Bailey frowned. Is Monika bullying you again? No, not at all. What's wrong then? Hugging himself, Jordan answered, What do I do? I have to face Coach and the other members of the basketball team later today. Jin was supposed to be there to support me. I don't know if I can beg to get back on the team alone. Did you quit the team or something? asked Bailey, remaining calm. Jordan nodded. Yeah, I did. I was stupid. Actually, said Bailey, smiling sweetly at him. That was very brave of you. You think so? Yes, said Bailey with a firm nod. The Jordan Greene I knew wouldn't have the courage to stand up to those other boys on the team like that. Sure, it's stupid but that's a side of you I never would have expected to see. Flushing slightly, Jordan smiled weakly. Thanks Bailey. It's because of Jin isn't it? Yes, it is, said Jordan, surprised at her. How do you know? Just an inkling, said Bailey, giggling softly. You have changed in such a short period of time thanks to that boy. Frida and Victoria too. I think it's wonderful. It's nice having him around, said Jordan shyly. Bailey nodded. He is a very nice boy and he can do a lot of great things. However, Bailey turned and looked at Jordan in the eye. You're a great

person too Jordan. No, I'm nothing like Jin. You might not be like Jin but you are an incredible person yourself, said Bailey, folding her hands on top of her lap. I believe that you are the type of person who will do the right thing when the time calls for it. Although it's rare, you can be strong and stand up for yourself too. No... that's impossible. I think it's possible, said Bailey encouragingly. It's great that you can rely so much on someone as trustworthy as Jin but at times, you need to remember that he has his own life too. He can't always be there for you. Jordan dropped his head. It's times like that that you have to remember to have more confidence in yourself and do what you need to do without anyone else interfering. Jordan looked at her. Bailey... It was really hard for me to ask Joseph out, said Bailey softly with a fond look on her face. But I'm glad I did. I would have regretted it for the rest of my life if I chickened out at the last minute. Yeah... said Jordan, smiling at her. You're really happy now... Yes, said Bailey, nodding. You can too, Jordan. Right. Bailey laughed at him. You don't want to regret not being on the basketball team on the year that they have a huge shot of winning right? Jordan nodded in agreement with Bailey. And I'm sure if it's for someone, you can be strong too, like I did a year ago or so. I get it, said Jordan, standing up. Thanks Bailey. You're welcome. This was the first time Bailey noticed that there was a container on Jordan's lap this entire time. He was carrying it now. Blinking, Bailey stood up and watched as Jordan tried to laugh it off. Ever coming back to the Populars, Bailey? Bailey had a thoughtful look on her face. I doubt it. Monika won't allow it. Is it because of Joseph Cruz? Shaking her head, Bailey said softly, He has a man crush on Kristian. He would love to return to the Killers and be with his friends. I completely understand. As for me, I'll be happy simply being friends with you and the others. You're amazing, Bailey, said Jordan, picking up his backpack and leaving. If I can be as strong as you one day, I'll be happy. See you later then and thanks again for comforting me. I'll figure out what to say to them later today. Good luck, said Bailey optimistically. Jordan winked. You too. After Jordan left, Bailey released a sigh of relief. She thought about how much he and the others changed after meeting Jin. Happy, Bailey mentally thanked Jin and encouraged him on before she walked back to Odam and the

rest of the cellists. In the distant, she could hear Edwin's sad violin playing and wondered what he was so upset about in the first place. ******************************************************* Thanks to Wendy's encouragement, Juliet and the Killers went to Art Club that lunchtime together. Aside from the other members of her group, Juliet managed to talk a couple of times with Cory and Gary. Even though Gary didn't say much to her, Cory had been quite friendly to her. To Juliet, people at this school were so nice to her. She didn't understand why but she was thankful for it. After all, her mother taught her to trust people no matter how they may seem on the outside. Kristian, don't you have a club you need to go to? asked Cory curiously. Kristian had his hands in his pocket and shrugged. I don't feel like it. I heard about how Rin Hamada ran away from you after you gave her a teddy bear! Noticing Juliet's curious look, Kristian growled and hit Cory on top of the head. Shut up, Cory. You and your big mouth. Thank you very much... said Juliet shyly, looking at the ground. Kristian blinked. You're very welcome Juliet. I've always wanted to join Art Club but I don't have enough courage so... We're here for you, said Cory with a wide smile. Juliet flushed slightly. You can always count on us, right Kristian? Gary? Even though Gary simply nodded, Kristian smiled and said, Of course. We're your friends, Juliet. At Kristian's smile, Juliet flushed a darker shade of red and muttered, Thank you... Once they dropped off Juliet at Art Club, they were about to leave when Kristian stopped and looked back inside. He had a feeling someone was there and he was right. A sleeping Rin Hamada was in the corner of the room with a pencil still in her hands. Kristian wanted to leave but his body wouldn't let him. Even though Juliet was going to say something to him, he went right past her and up to Rin. Rin-chan? asked Kristian, poking her in the shoulder. Rin did not respond. This is so like her... So like her? asked Juliet curiously, joining Kristian along with Cory and Gary. She doesn't function well under four hours of sleep, said Kristian, sighing. He glanced away with a dazed look on his face. She can sleep about anywhere if she has nothing important to do. What a hopeless girl. Look Kristian, said Cory, pointing at something. At Cory's words, Kristian followed his finger at the pink teddy bear Rin was using as a pillow on top of the desk. She was smiling in her sleep despite how upset she was before. An overwhelming sensation came over Kristian before he motioned Cory and Gary to leave. The two of them obeyed him and left the room. Juliet didn't want to interfere so she sat down and watched a couple of students paint. However, she kept her eyes on Kristian.

You impulsive young lady, said Kristian in a teasing tone before he pulled a chair right next to her and placed his head on her shoulder. Why did you have to go running off like that earlier? You scared the shit out of me. Rin obviously felt Kristian on her shoulder and fluttered her sleepy eyes open. That cologne... is that you Kristian? Kristian kept his head hidden on top of her shoulder. No. Not Kristian. Stupid Kristian, said Rin sleepily before she closed her eyes and moved her head over so that half of the teddy bear was left. Use this... I love you, said Kristian, placing his head on the teddy bear and staring at her face. He rubbed his hand on her head. I love you so don't get mad at me for loving you. Stupid, said Rin, smiling sleepily. I get mad at you for everything. Live with it. How heartless. Go away and leave me alone, said Rin, hitting her head against his. Kristian pouted. Never. At that single word, Rin popped her eyes open and stared at him. How did you find me? Kristian was about to answer when Rin covered his mouth. You're about to say something really cheesy or stupid. That was a rhetorical question. Kristian pushed her hand off him. You're the lazy one. Sleeping in your club. Why aren't you at your club like you're supposed to huh? Chuckling, Kristian rubbed her head and answered, Because I want to be with you. Lazy, said Rin in a chiding voice before she placed her hand on top of his head like he did to her. Promise you'll never do that in front of everyone again. If I can express my love for you physically then... Hearing this, Rin flushed bright red and hit him on the head hard. You perverted Virgin Killer. Hey, said Kristian, frowning. I didn't mean it like that! Sure. Kristian leaned and whispered in her ear, I still have that key so if you feel like it then I don't mind- Again, Rin placed her hand over his mouth. Don't finish that sentence. Much to her surprise, Kristian licked her hand so she retreated and they began to argue about how perverted he was and how hot-tempered she was. Juliet watched with curious eyes. Was this how couples usually act around one another? Even though Juliet didn't like Kristian acting like this with his girlfriend, she was more bothered by something else. Her parents didn't act this way at all and they had been together for years. Hey, said one of the other students. Stop flirting over there. We'll stop, said Kristian, wrapping his arm over Rin. Stop being horny Rin-chan. Shut up! Stop lying!

After Rin got Kristian off her, she noticed Juliet nearby. Already, Rin remembered how Kristian was after her at the beginning of school. Rin didn't like that but she knew she didn't have any personal grudge against the girl. Besides, she was Vice President so she had better do her job. Sitting next to Juliet, Rin smiled and told the shy girl what the club was all about. Kristian stood behind her silently. Has Tilly been treating you well? asked Kristian suddenly, interrupting Rin's explanation. The Japanese girl glared up at him. She hasn't been too bitchy has she? Leader is very nice to me... said Juliet slowly with a shy smile. Maybe Tilly's lesbian? asked Kristian thoughtfully. Only mean to boys. Excuse me, Kristian, said Rin, pushing him away with a frown on her face. I am in the middle of something with Juliet here. Don't be jealous just because I'm asking about another girl. Rin laughed. Why would I be jealous of that? Harsh, said Kristian, backing away. Fine, I'll compromise. I'll talk about myself instead. Did you know some kid actually beat me in karate in sixth grade? I'll never forgive that kid for humiliating me like that! Kristian, said Rin, frowning at him. You pighead. That's not very nice now is it? You are a pighead. Well, said Kristian, licking his lips. Pigs are delicious and I'm delicious. You should try me some time. You see what I have to deal with? asked Rin to Juliet in an exasperated voice. Juliet flushed red and lowered her eyes. I wouldn't mind... Huh? asked Rin and Kristian in unison. N-Nothing! cried Juliet, covering her mouth and running out of the room with her backpack. E-Excuse m-me! Rin tilted her head after Juliet. Is she all right? Staring after her, Kristian frowned. I see what's going on... ********************************************* Oh my! The skirt looks better on you! No, it looks better on you! It's not a skirt. It's a skort! While the tennis girls were checking each other out, Jezebelle was sitting by herself and making sure her racket was in top shape. She wanted to concentrate on the match by herself. However, she noticed that Jin came with a cooler full of water bottles and Gatorade. The girls all gathered around him and grabbed their respective drinks, even Jezebelle. She glanced at her opponents while she took a sip of her drink. They didn't look that tough in her opinion. How does it feel to be the only white girl on the team? asked Lexi to Sophronia. Sophronia smiled softly. I like it but I haven't thought about it much.

This is boring just standing around here for another hour! said Lexi, wrapping her arms in front of her chest stubbornly. How about we walk around campus and check the boys out? Right? Lexi hopped to the side and answered in her other voice. Yes, Lexi, the grass is always greener on the other side! I'm in, said Naomi from JV team happily. Noticing Jin looking at her, Naomi blushed and added quickly, Of course no one beats Jin in my heart... Kibuum! cried Xuan Lan, hugging her stuffed horse. I'll go too! How about the rest of you guys? asked Lexi, smiling deviously at them. I'll go but it's for the girls, said Venus, licking her lips. Such pretty girls at this school the last time we played here. I'll go too, said Sophronia, tilting her head to the side. I'll make sure no one gets lost before the game starts. Thanks for being reliable, Sophronia, said Yvette, checking the roster right now with Coach. I'll be thinking of tips for everyone before the game starts. Make sure to come back to practice a bit before the games begin! Yeah, yeah, said the girls in unison, inwardly groaning. Come, you two, said Lexi, dragging the two silent Chinese girls with her by the arms. You coming Tasha? Roselle? Joyce? How about you guys? Roselle was busy typing on her laptop. I already have a boyfriend remember? Jordan Greene, said Lexi, sticking out her tongue. Tasha or Joyce? The lone Filipino girl looked up from her knees. No... I'm sorry... You guys have fun, said Tasha, taking her eyes away from the picture of her poodle on her cell phone. I'm not really interested in high school boys. After that test this morning, I want to rest here by myself. All right then, said Lexi, tossing Tasha a weird look. Let's go guys. The minute Lexi and the other girls leave the area, Lexi continued, Is it just me or is Tasha acting weird? She's usually happy about everything. The other girls looked bothered as well. That's not very nice. She didn't even bother to invite you Fi, said Jin, glancing down at his girlfriend who was busy tending to her racket. I already have a boyfriend and he's here, said Jezebelle in a monotone. It'll be awkward wouldn't it? Are you all right Fi? asked Jin worriedly, noticing the lack of emotion in her face or her voice. You sound... down. I'm not. Fuck off. Jin frowned and sat down next to Jezebelle. Now, I'm even more worried. I don't want to get distracted before a match, said Jezebelle in a humorless voice. Jin was so scared by her tone that he backed away from her. Leave me alone. If I lose my match today, I will blame it all on you, sour grapes. I understand, said Jin in a disappointed voice, getting up. I'll be checking out the tennis courts then. Whatever. With that loving goodbye, Jezebelle went back to concentrating on her

racket on the bench by herself. As for Jin, he did exactly like he said he would. He went on the courts and checked the nets to make sure they were held up correctly. The other girls on the other team were all staring at him while he went to each court to do his job. When he caught their eyes, some of them waved at him while others glanced away in embarrassment. Jin blinked, not understanding. After he left the courts in order to grab the new tennis balls in Coach's trunks and returned to the tennis area, a bunch of girls from the other tennis team surrounded and began talking to him. They were asking things like what ethnicity, how old, and his job. Jin was so overwhelmed that when he noticed Tasha sitting not so far away by herself, he used her as an excuse to get away. Hey Tasha! At the sight of Jin, Tasha beamed. Hello Jin. How are you feeling about the first tennis match of the season? It's pre-season so I'm not that anxious over it but, said Tasha, hugging her knees to her chest. I would like to win if possible. The first match counts for seeding so it should help a lot if we win. And I'm Number One Singles too, said Tasha, trying hard to smile. Yay me. You always seem to have fun on the courts though, said Jin with a gentle look on his face. Tasha nodded. You are very nice to your opponents and you laugh it off even when you're losing. You're like the complete opposite of Fi on the courts. Jin suddenly laughed. Maybe that's why she's so afraid of you. Tennis is fun and I like having fun, said Tasha, agreeing. But I don't like it when we have to go to away games. Tasha shrugged it off. Maybe it's just me being weird or something right? I don't know about you, said Jin, sitting down next to her on the bench and looking heavenwards. But I have never met a normal person in my life. You're funny, said Tasha with a soft giggle. I'm being serious here, said Jin, scratching his head. I am beginning to suspect that normal people don't exist. We're just all weird in our own different ways. You're normal enough, said Tasha in amusement. Well, except for the whole you trying to change the school thing I suppose. That Grim... I want to know your opinion on this though, said Tasha, peering up at Jin with an interested sparkle in her eyes. There's actually a reason why I don't like going to away games especially with my teammates running around and rating boys at these schools. Jin lifted a brow. What is it? Frowning, Tasha continued with a sad look on her face. I don't like high school boys at our school so there's no way I'd like boys from other high schools who are complete strangers to me. Wow, said Jin, speechless. I've always assumed that you're into boys like Lexi and the others...

I hang out with them often so it's a safe assumption. Still speechless, Jin stared at Tasha for a few seconds before he thought of something quickly to say in response to that. Is there a particular reason why you don't like high school boys? You always treated me like a good friend before... Because you're not perverted, said Tasha suddenly, laughing softly to herself. Isn't it silly of me to want a boyfriend who is not dirty-minded and my age? In the words of my friend Bo, said Jin, frowning. They don't exist. I figured as much. Yeah... Tasha tossed Jin a gentle look. But you're not perverted and you're a year younger than I. Are you saying you're more dirty-minded than you appear on the outside, Jin Song? Unaffected by her words, Jin thought about it. I'm not sure myself. You're so cute, Jin Song. I'm serious, said Jin with a frown, looking at Jezebelle who was now tying up her long hair with the matching ribbons that Yvette got for everyone on the team. My friends call me asexual for fun but I'm not like that at all. At least, I don't think I am. I'm slightly disappointed then, said Tasha suddenly, placing her hands on the bench and rocking back and forth. I'm the one who nominated you for team manager too. Thanks? Tasha giggled. Though, I should be thankful that you don't show or say those types of things. That's a huge improvement from most high school boys I know. It's not that I don't know or care to show, said Jin, slightly frustrated with his words. All I know is that my mother told me that I should respect women by keeping those types of comments to myself. She said that girls appreciate it more. Plus, Rin-chan sort of trained me from a very young age never to act like that. I guess it's just natural for me now to keep certain thoughts to myself? That explains a couple of things, said Tasha with a nod. I do respect you a lot though Jin Song. Jin smiled. Thanks Tasha. Is it crazy of me to wish that boys never grow up? asked Tasha suddenly with a dreamy look on her face. She was gazing up at the sunny sky now. I wouldn't call it crazy... Tasha released a heavy sigh. My favorite movie and book is actually Peter Pan. Oh! said Jin, amazed. Your poodle's name Tinker Bell! Yes, said Tasha, returning to rocking back and force on the bench. I really like Peter. He never wants to grow up and stays a child forever. Sure, younger boys are immature but at least, they're not perverted. I admire him for

that and I wish I can find someone like that. Tasha paused and looked down. How stupid of me. Jin shook his head. I'm sure there are guys out there who might think it but not act on it. I'm sure there's someone out there for you Tasha. You really think so? asked Tasha with a soft smile. I think so. If Jin Song thinks so, said Tasha, leaning back with her hands still on the bench. Then it must be so! You shouldn't take my word at face value, said Jin quickly, reddening. Oh Jin, said Tasha, hitting him playfully on the shoulder. You shouldn't be like this. I really respect you. I really do. It's rare for someone at your age to be this loyal to someone. Tasha followed Jin's gaze to Jezebelle. She's so lucky to have you. You shouldn't respect me for something like that, said Jin, shaking his head. I've always thought it was natural to be loyal to the person you're with. Tasha shook her head. Not everyone thinks like that. Tasha? That's what's so great about dogs, said Tasha brightly now. She stood up with a smile on her face. Dogs are so loyal to their owners! They'll never betray you! Never ever! Tasha hugged herself and twirled once. Not only are they loyal, they are so cute when they wag their tail or bark in happiness! They also like to protect their owners no matter what! I love dogs! They are such wonderful creatures. They must be, said Jin in agreement. Tasha leaned toward him. I know right? Sometimes, Tasha laughed nervously. I feel like dogs care more about people than people to each other. It's a sad thought isn't it? I can't believe I just said that! It's okay, said Jin, looking away in shame. At times, I wonder if video games understand me better than my fellow classmates. Jin Song... Laughing it off, Jin said quickly, What am I saying? You can't compare video game characters to real life people. I'm not sure about that but, said Tasha, taking a few steps backward and looking up thoughtfully. I do know that I can rely on Tinker Bell for anything and she's not human either. I'm sure others feel the same way about certain animals or things. I guess so, said Jin supportively. I do love my video games... And I do love Tinkle Bell... Grilled salmon, said Jezebelle, kicking Jin lightly to his leg. Tasha and Jin turned to her at the same time. Let's practice tennis for a bit. Borrow a racket from Coach. Me? asked Jin, pointing at himself. How about Tasha or someone else? No thank you, said Jezebelle coldly, rolling her eyes at Tasha. Your other self is better than her. Come on. I need the practice. Jin frowned. My other self? What other self?

His girlfriend was obviously growing impatiently. You know! The competitive one! The hot one that I would sleep with instead of you! Tilting his head to the side, Jin was lost. Huh? Who sleep with who? Forget it, said Jezebelle, grabbing him by the arm. Tasha could have sworn Jezebelle gave her a glare. Let's go now. I'll force him out of you somehow. I need to practice this one move I thought of just now. Oh okay then, said Jin, obviously lost still. Jin looked at Tasha apologetically. I'm sorry Tasha. We'll have to talk about this later if you still want to talk to me about it. I'm pretty much done, said Tasha with a weak smile. You go on ahead Jin Song. Sorry again, said Jin, waving at her. Jezebelle dragged him toward the courts without warning. However, Jin broke away from her. Wait Fi! I haven't gotten a racket or tennis balls! Despite this, Jezebelle pulled him down slightly to her height before she whispered a couple of things in his ear. Jin had a blank look on his face for a while until she was done. Once she finished, Jin suddenly laughed heartily and gave her a menacing look. You want revenge against me? asked Jin in a mocking manner. That's my line. There you go, said Jezebelle, content at Jin's transformation. Oh yeah? Prove it. You'll be sorry, little girl, said Jin, leaving quickly and coming back with one of Coach's extra rackets. So, how do you want me to beat you? Quick and easy or slow and painfully? Jezebelle smirked and went inside the tennis courts. Surprise me. ******************************************** After his English teacher's amazement that Jordan actually completed a project together with Jin during fifth period, Jordan spent the first half of sixth period in the locker room, thinking about Jin and how he was doing now. Alejandro showed up for football practice today, much to everyone's surprise. Then, Jordan spent the second half of sixth period on the bleachers with the rest of the tennis boys. Jordan, you there? At Patrick's question, Jordan woke up from his daydreaming. Yeah, I'm here. Who do you think is hotter- Tasha or Joyce? Obviously Tasha, said Jordan without thinking before he returned his attention to the field below. The track team and football team were running like always. What are you guys talking about anyways? Told you he wasn't paying any attention, said Patrick with a playful smile. Despite Javen having his headphones over his ears, he heard everything. Now, he laughed and winked, Jordan's missing Roselle. Leave him alone. Lucky bastard, said Grim, shifting his glasses up. At least you have a girlfriend.

You mean your girlfriend Grim? asked David innocently. You're an idiot David. What do you mean by that? asked Jordan, clueless to what David was saying in regards to Grim. Nothing, said David, getting up. I'm leaving school early. Who's with me? According to my calculations, said Grim, checking his watch. School will be out in about eleven minutes anyway. What do you wish to accomplish with this spare time anyways David? I don't know! I just want to get out of here! I second that, said Patrick, stretching. School's boring without the girls here. No offense to you guys but I'm no homo. See you. After Patrick left with Javen, David added, Rick's the only smart one. He decides to ditch tennis and go home ages ago. What's the deal with Rick? asked Geoff with wide, innocent eyes. The other boys were sitting as far away from Geoff as possible thanks to his hugging habits. He's never been late in his life before this year! You knew him for a long time Geoff? asked Grim carefully. Geoff nodded. We went to the same middle school. He probably has family problems, said Jordan out of the blue. Everyone shifted their attention to the pretty Caucasian boy. What other reason can there be for being a heavy tardy student? Wow Jordan, said David with wide eyes. That was thoughtful... even for you. Shut up, said Jordan, glancing away. If everyone lived in a fixed environment, things like this wouldn't happen. Sadly, it is impossible for us to live in a world without outside circumstances affecting us in every possible way. We'll have to deal with it. Jordan, are you all right? asked Geoff worriedly. Even the silent Boris was now paying attention. You sound different than usual, Jordan. Sighing, Jordan continued, It's easy to assume that people does certain things thanks to their personalities but that is not always the case. Circumstances play a huge factor in human changes. If I understand correctly, said Grim, standing up with a thoughtful look on his face. Rick's change in character may be due to outside influences he has no control over rather than he changing his own character. Jordan nodded. I like that evaluation. Let's stick with that for now. Thank you for the observation. How did you figure that out Jordan? asked David in awe. Jordan frowned. For one thing, Rick's personality hasn't changed much since we last saw him last year. The only thing that has changed is his frequent tardies which can be explained by many things. He might have moved. He might have changed carpools. He might be in a fight with his parents so he has to find a new transportation method to get to school. This is all my guesses so far. Makes sense to me, said David with a smile. I'll call him later then.

I'll do that too, said Geoff happily. I'm his friend too! Thanks Jordan, said Boris in his heavy Russian accent. I'll be going home early now like the rest of you guys. The rest of the tennis boys left together with Jordan by himself. Even though Jordan was by himself, he didn't feel lonely at all. He liked it up here. This was one of the best spots to hide from his frequent admirers back when he gained enormous popularity. Once Jin was back, Jordan made a mental note to tell Jin about this place. Best of all, up here, he could see about everyone. This was when he noticed that Rin and her band group were practicing nearby. Rin Hamada! Rin stopped playing her saxophone. Yes Adrian? Adrian scowled. Concentrate. Yes sir! said Rin fiercely, returning to her saxophone playing. This is what happens when good students begin to date bad ones, said Adrian, shaking his head and checking up on the other students. You! Stop staring at the track girls and look at your music sheet instead! With a sad look on her face, Rin continued her practicing her saxophone. Of all the people she admired, Rin didn't want to disappoint Adrian when he put so much faith in her. She had to practice even harder to make him happy. Meanwhile, Jordan watched this and lifted his brow. I need to get back on the team and practice as hard as her, said Jordan to himself. With this determination and motivation in mind, Jordan headed to the boys' locker room and then to the gym where he would beg Coach to get back on the team. Inside the locker room, Jordan changed by himself without any distraction from the other boys of the tennis team. On his way out, he saw Bo but of course, he pretended not see Bo because he was afraid of the Korean upperclassman now. Right when he was about to go into his Coach's office to the side of the gym, he noticed Wendy and Cash waiting outside the door next to one another. Quickly, Jordan hid behind a wall and listened to their conversation. So, how many days a week do you stay after school and practice? Cash took a bite of his peach. Five days a week. Oh man, said Wendy with wide eyes. You serious? I go to the park and practice on the weekends as well, said Cash, smiling at her. Jordan didn't like that smile. He actually felt uncomfortable at the sight of these two together. What's the use if you don't go all out on something you love right? Wendy laughed and wrapped her hands behind her back. I agree. Nice punch by the way, said Cash, indicating at his much better eye now. Flushing, Wendy laughed it off. Your own damn fault! You deserved it! I deserved it, said Cash admittedly, brushing his blonde hair with his hand. Are you free after school today? I want to play one-on-one with you again. You're actually a really good opponent, Wendy. Sure, if it's for basketball only.

Of course, said Cash, widening his smile. It's not like I'm hitting on you or anything like that. Sure, said Wendy, punching him in the shoulder. Remember that when you try again. Cash groaned and muttered something about how she was probably stronger than him. What do you say now, Cash? Cash pretended to think about it. How about this... If our team win our season's first basketball game, you'll have to date me, Wendy. Also, with your agreement, this will motivate me a lot to try even harder in our first game. Maybe, said Wendy, uncertain. She means no, said Jordan in interruption. He couldn't stand it anymore. It was obvious that Cash was hitting on Wendy and yet, she seemed so easygoing about it. Wendy, let's go. Where the hell are you taking me? Forcibly, Jordan dragged her near the boys' gym and away from Coach's office. She was glaring at him now for making a decision for her, though she didn't try very hard to free herself from his grip. As for Jordan, he was in no mood to work these things out with her right now. Next thing he knew, he forced her against the nearest wall with a serious expression on his face. What the fuck was that? asked Jordan, upset. Wendy glared at him intensely. I thought you're smarter than that Wendy! What the crap are you talking about? asked Wendy fiercely. Cash, that's who, said Jordan, throwing his right arm out. What about him? asked Wendy, placing her hands on her hips. He's obviously crushing on you. And what's so bad about that? Jordan was speechless. What do you mean by that? Is it really that horrible, God forbid, for someone to like me for being me? You don't understand at all, said Jordan, frustrated. He leaned towards her, frowning. He's only playing around with you to pass the time. Are you that naive to believe that he really likes you for who you are? Is this from personal experience, Jordan Greene? asked Wendy with a fine lift of her brow. At the daring question, Jordan was taken aback. I... I didn't... For someone who did the exact same thing you told me to be wary of, said Wendy in a bitter voice. Do you really have any right to try to protect me now? Looking down, Jordan said softly, I... care for you Wendy. I don't want anything to happen to you. I'm only doing this for your own good. I'm not that damn gullible, Jordan, said Wendy, turning her back to him. I know what I want and don't want. Right now, I know that I don't want your pity or protection because I hate you. I'll take care of myself, thanks. Before Wendy left, Jordan blurted out, He has a girlfriend already. I don't give a crap, said Wendy loudly over her shoulder. Mind your own business! However, thanks to his talk with Wendy, Jordan became extremely

pessimistic about talking to Coach about getting on the team. Although he received lots of encouragement from both Jin and Bailey, he felt like maybe it was best he didn't return on the team. One, without him, Cash wouldn't be able to win that first game and then date Wendy. Two, without him, he wouldn't have to watch Cash hit on Wendy before, during, or after basketball practice. Jordan didn't know why but the thought of Cash dating Wendy with another girlfriend at a different high school bothered him. The worst part was Jordan didn't know whether he was doing this because he truly cared for Wendy or because he wanted to make up for what he did to her in the past. In other words, was this all to make himself feel better? Either way, there was no way he was going to let Cash be with Wendy. That he was absolutely sure of no matter what. ******************************************** Nice try girls, said Venus, hugging Sophronia and Lexi right after their match. Lexi looked like she was about to burst into tears. It's your first match! You guys did very well for first-time partners! Quiet Venus, said Yvette mercilessly. They lost. That's cruel Yvette! cried Roselle nearby, pouting. They did their best! No, they did not, said Yvette, glaring at the two girls. This time, Lexi sobbed and hugged Sophronia tightly. I know them. They should have played a lot better than they did on those courts! She's in a bad mood, said Jezebelle nearby to Xuan Lan while checking her nails. Xuan Lan tilted her head to the side. Oy... at least you won your match easily Leader! I'm so proud of you! Obviously, said Jezebelle through gritted teeth. This is what happens when they put me in Singles Two. That girl wasn't even worth my time. She was totally not at my level... not that anyone on their or our team is. That's our Leader! said Xuan Lan happily. What's the score anyways? Thinking about it for a second, Jezebelle answered, Well, Doubles Two lost badly just now. Jezebelle looked around the area to find May and Mai sharing headphones to a single MP3 player. Doubles Three managed to win by two games ten minutes ago. Who else... Jezebelle noticed Roselle concentrating on her typing while fighting with Yvette at the same time. Singles Three lost her match but she doesn't seem to care much. At the sight of Venus and Yvette, Jezebelle giggled. Of course, the perfect Doubles One did well. With my win, we have three out of seven wins. Now, if only one more person win, we'll be good to go, though I wish we totally destroyed them instead but with such an unmotivated team, this is the best I can hope for. Joyce is playing right now... said Xuan Lan, checking the match closest to where they sat. Jezebelle giggled to herself. Yes Leader? I don't even need to look at the score, said Jezebelle, clicking her tongue and moving her ponytail behind her. She'll lose. How pessimistic... I watched their Singles Four during practice, said Jezebelle, lifting a

brow at Xuan Lan. Bautista doesn't stand a chance... not with her emotions getting in the way. Right when Jezebelle said that, Joyce began to cry in the background and hug her racket to her. The other girls of course automatically ran over to comfort Joyce, except Yvette who tore a sheet of paper she was holding. Jezebelle did not even budge since she already knew that Joyce just lost her game to her much better opponent. It didn't help that throughout the whole match, Joyce had little motivation to win. Great, said Jezebelle, standing up and facing the others. Don't tell me. Yeah, said Venus, frowning. It's up to Tasha. Can I pack up my things and go home early then? asked Jezebelle sweetly to Coach. The other girls groaned at Jezebelle's attitude. We're not going to win with her. Look at her losing match right now! She still has a chance, said Lexi, pumped up. She's only losing by two games! Five to three? asked Jezebelle in disbelief. Boy, are you people optimistic. Even if the rules allow you permission to leave before the last match is done, said Yvette, coming up to Jezebelle with a stern look on her face. You can't leave ahead of time without Jin right? He's your ride home right? Just in case you haven't noticed, Jin is the one who has to pick up balls for that last match right now. I knew I forgot about something, said Jezebelle, rolling her eyes. Fine. I'll just do my hair in the restroom then. After Jezebelle went inside the restroom from a couple of feet away, Lexi stomped her foot out of frustration. Just because she's the best player on the team doesn't mean she can do what she wants! She's also the only player besides Venus and I who actually wants to win, said Yvette, sighing. Venus frowned and placed her hands on Yvette's shoulders in comfort. If you want to badmouth her, wait until you actually win a game Lexi. Oh! I hate this team! cried Lexi, throwing a tantrum and leaving the area. Should I go after her? asked Sophronia in offering. Leave her be, said Yvette, shrugging. She has to come back for the bus anyways. She's probably off looking for hot boys anyways. Be honest, said Venus, wrapping her arms around Yvette's neck. What are the chances of Tasha winning this match? Twenty-five percent, said Yvette after a second of thinking. And I'm being generous right now. We're doomed... said Joyce, trying hard to hold back her tears. Forget math! cried Roselle, placing her hands on her hips. Percentages don't mean crap! Let's go and cheer her on! What about your laptop? asked Yvette in amazement at Roselle's attitude.

I hate to lose okay? said Roselle stubbornly, wrapping her arms in front of her chest. Sure, I'm lazy and unmotivated but I still don't want to give up just yet! Roselle's right, said Sophronia with a firm nod. Let's cheer Tasha on. Venus winked. Yes! Let's do it! All the girls, even the quiet May and Mai and JV girls, went off toward Tasha's court with only Yvette and Coach Marshall left. Even though everyone was enthusiastic to cheer Tasha on, Yvette sighed again and sat down on her chair next to Coach, who was hiding his face under his sunglasses and baseball cap again. What's the point? asked Yvette, grumbling. I know Tasha very well. She doesn't take playing tennis seriously. Even if the whole team depends on her, she won't be able to pull off a miracle. That's just not who she is. She's on there to have fun and nothing more. You're almost correct, said Coach with a grin on his face, lifting his sunglasses up with his finger. Yvette lifted a brow. Almost correct? Impossible. I'm always correct. You forgot something important, Kwan. And what may that be? asked Yvette, daring Coach to prove her wrong. Coach Marshall laughed and pointed straight at a single Korean boy on Tasha's tennis court, running around and picking up tennis balls. That boy. Jin Song? asked Yvette, surprised. What about him? I gave him specific instructions, said Coach Marshall, leaning back in his chair and wearing his sunglasses again. Watch. A miracle will happen. If not, I'm getting myself a new team manager. On the tennis court, Tasha sat down at the bench and panted. Jin handed the tennis balls to her opponent before he ran over and gave Tasha her almost finished water bottle. Thanking Jin quickly, Tasha finished the water bottle and beamed at Jin. This is so much fun, said Tasha, smiling. I'm having lots of fun! Even though I'm losing by one game now, I don't feel any pressure at all! It's all about having fun on the court right? Tasha, said Jin, looking down. I heard something from Coach. Huh? Jin frowned. Is it true that you want to be a child forever? Surprised by his question, Tasha glanced away. Yes. I didn't know that... I know I shouldn't tell you this but, said Tasha, tapping her tennis racket on the ground. I don't like grown ups. They lie. They cheat. They betray one another. Don't you think that's really sad? Even if that's true, said Jin slowly, bothered by her words. Why must you be a child Tasha? You're not a grown up but you're not a kid either. You should just be yourself. I am being myself and I am a child as well, said Tasha with a comforting smile. I am glad to be able to be on the team and play for fun...

for my own happiness. If you truly believe your own words, said Jin, patting Tasha on the shoulder. I'm happy for you. I'll go get you a water bottle then. Thanks Jin Song, said Tasha, watching Jin leave the tennis courts. I really wish I sound as convincing as I did... Outside, while Jin grabbed a water bottle from the cooler, Coach Marshall went up to him. Jin was surprised to see that his Coach came to see him instead of sleeping or watching Tasha instead. Coach motioned for Jin to follow him. Obediently, Jin walked side by side next to Coach Marshall until they stood back in front of Tasha's courts outside the fence. Song, I forgot to tell you something else. Jin blinked. What is it Coach? Do you know why Chanthachem is the way she is? I have no idea... Coach Marshall frowned. I actually had Chanthachem's older sister a couple of years ago on the same team. Jin's eyes widened. Talented and cheerful girl. She was an extremely talented tennis player. What happened to her? She got herself knocked up and eloped with a guy, said Coach Marshall, still staring at Tasha who was sitting there with a happy smile on her face. I heard from Mrs. Chanthachem that her older sister returned home with a baby and without that same guy. Apparently, he left. That's horrible... said Jin sadly. Chanthachem probably has a horrible time trusting people, said Coach Marshall, shaking his head. I'm not one hundred percent sure but I'm guessing that Chanthachem is the way she is because of what happened to her older sister. She is happy-go-lucky because she is in denial and wants to remain childlike. She's escaping the reality in front of her. Coach, said Jin slowly, peering up at him. If you knew this, why don't you help her? Why don't you try to help her get past this? Coach shook his head. Would you accept help from your teachers, Song? No... probably not... It's probably best to leave it to someone her own age, as dumb as that is, said Coach Marshall, shifting his baseball cap to backwards like his usual. There is one thing that Chanthachem treasures above all else... even more than childlike innocence. It's loyalty, isn't it? asked Jin automatically. Coach nodded. Go Song. You're the only one who can do it. With these thoughts in mind, Jin headed toward where Tasha was sitting by herself with her new water bottle in hand. Jin thought about what Coach told him over and over again. Because of this, the walk to Tasha took forever. What could he do for her? If what Coach said was true, Tasha wanted to stay a child forever because she didn't want to deal with grown-up issues. It was as if Tasha made a world for herself... her own Neverland where she could always be happy-go-

lucky without worry. In that world, she had her dog Tinker Bell and she didn't have to care for anything. No lying. No cheating. No brother-in-law leaving her sister behind. Why would she want to leave such a world? Because, Jin thought, she did not belong there. Tasha belonged here, in the real world, with the rest of them. She was no Peter Pan. She could not remain there forever. Sooner or later, she had to come to terms with reality. Yes, people do lie. Yes, people do cheat. And yes, there are countless of people leaving other people behind without a second thought about it. However, that was only part of the real world. Jin felt that there was the other crucial part of the world Tasha failed to see... a world made up of good people. For example, there were people like Yvette who would stay up late at night to work on their 'game plan' for their upcoming matches even if it meant everyone hating her for it. There were people like Jordan who was suffering every day but manage to put on a facade and try to improve himself little by little. There were people like Rin who wasn't born intelligent but worked every single day of her life to prove herself and everyone around her that she was smart. There were people like David who would do anything for his mother even if it meant being seen as someone stupid and pathetic. There were people like Mary Lou who would give up her entire life in order to take care of the person she loves the most. All of these people are all maturing and growing up to become adults... and yet, for the most part, Tasha failed to see them. Tasha, said Jin, coming up to her with a smile. Jin Song, said Tasha in response, returning the gesture. Jin held out her water bottle. You can do it, Tasha. Huh? Inwardly, Jin thought about it once more. The truth was he and Tasha were exactly the same. They managed to block reality around them and absorb themselves in a fictional world that didn't exist. Like Tasha, Jin liked that world. He liked it very much. He never wanted to leave it. Once he met Jezebelle though, everything changed for him. He realized that he was no longer a child who could spent hours on video games anymore. He had a girlfriend to take care of. With growing up, he had to handle responsibilities he didn't expect to as a child. Yes, that was it. Responsibility. The magic word to bring her back. I believe in you, said Jin out loud at her with the same smile on his face. Tasha was confused now. I believe you can do it. You can win this match. There's fun and then there's fun without losing sight of your responsibility. I trust you and your commitment to this team, Tasha. Jin moved the water bottle closer to her. Won't you trust me as well? Understanding Jin's words now, Tasha accepted the water bottle with a content expression on her face. I trust you, Jin Song, and thank you. *********************************************** Kristian! Future mother-in-law! Rin wanted to leave the house when she found her mother and boyfriend

hugging the minute she walked into the room. Her mother was fondly petting Kristian on the head while he showed off the teddy bear he bought her. In the back of Rin's mind, she was still curious how he got it in the first place. I'll be going now, said Ms. Hamada, opening the door to the garage. Where are you going Mother? asked Rin immediately, shocked. Ms. Hamada beamed at her daughter. I want to leave you two alone in the house. It must be embarrassing to have your mother around when you guys want to do things alone upstairs right? I'll be grocery shopping in the meantime. No! Mother! cried Rin, running after her mother. Don't leave me alone with the devil! How can you do this to your own daughter? The devil? asked Kristian, amused. Unfortunately for Rin, her mother was already in her car and drove out of the house. Rin watched with a dropped jaw when her mother winked at her and drove down the road. Groaning loudly, Rin closed the garage door in defeat and sat down at the kitchen table. Kristian went over with an innocent look on her face. You know... Don't say it, said Rin, hiding her head on the table. Kristian went on anyways, At least I don't have to seek your parents' approval to date or marry you, which makes things a lot easier. You'll never meet another mother like mine. I figure as much. Rin wrapped her arms stubbornly in front of her chest. I'm studying down here. I'm not going up there without my mother around. Not that it matters much... One more perverted comment out of you, said Rin with a warning glare. And I'm kicking you out of the house. I haven't even made a perverted comment since we got here! said Kristian in disbelief. It's all your head Rin-chan! I'm not going to argue with you, said Rin through gritted teeth, getting up from her seat and heading toward the stairs. I'm getting my history book and then we're going to study together down here. You'll memorize the pages with your brilliant photographic memory and ask possible test questions. You understand Kristian? What a waste of an opportunity, said Kristian in disappointment. Shush you or I'll really kick you out of the house. Kristian licked his lips and lifted a brow. You and what army? My yaoi army. Your yaoi army? asked Kristian curiously, not understanding. What is that supposed to mean, Rin-chan? In order to answer his question, Rin took out a notebook, ripped a blank piece of paper out, and drew something on it quickly. Once she was done within ten minutes, she held it up to Kristian's face. Kristian paled quickly and stole that paper out of her hands. At the sight of his stunned face, Rin started to laugh to herself.

What the fuck? That's you and Cory. Kristian continued to stare at the paper for a few more minutes before he began to rip it and throw it in the nearest trashcan. While he did this, Rin quickly drew another sketch and held it up. Once Kristian returned and saw what she just draw, Kristian gaped and proceeded to throw that one away as well. But Bo looks so handsome in that picture, said Rin innocently while drawing another sketch ready for him once he came back. Can't you draw me and a hot chick instead? Impossible, said Rin, giggling and holding up a new sketch of Kristian and Jordan. Your face and body are made to be with another man. Screw the bed, said Kristian, knocking Rin over and on top of the kitchen table. I'll prove you wrong right now, Rin-chan. You better stop drawing those yaoi sketches now or else I'll do something to you. Rin was not afraid. You said you wouldn't do that. It's not rape when the other person's willing. Scowling, Rin moved her head to the side, staring at the refrigerator instead. He had her pinned down but she didn't feel angry or fearful of him at all. He gave her his word that he wouldn't do anything she didn't want back in the changing room. For whatever reason, she trusted him that much at least. Kristian, let go of me, said Rin, pouting. I need to get my history book. I can't stop thinking of you all day yesterday and today, said Kristian in a low tone, loosening his grip on her wrists. And now, you have to draw me with other guys to make fun of me. That really hurts my pride, Rin-chan. But yaoi is fun. So is spending time with your boyfriend, said Kristian in a challenging voice. Is this what you call fun? asked Rin, copying his tone. Kristian started to laugh. He obviously thought so. Do you like to be on top that much, Kristian? How do you know? A lucky guess. Why are we talking about this? asked Kristian, laughing harder. He released her and allowed her to sit back down correctly. He had to force himself to stop laughing. Let's study Rin-chan. I promise I'll sit and wait for you here. Suspicious, said Rin, getting up from her chair and tossing him a warning glare. Very suspicious. Are you behaving for once Kristian? What am I? A child? asked Kristian, annoyed. Rin opened her mouth but he answered for her, Never mind. Don't answer. I know what you're going to say. You're going to say something along the lines of 'Yes, you are. Now, be a good boy and stay here like I asked you too'. Rin flushed. It's better if we study and play later. We're not playing later!

Then, what's the point of studying? asked Kristian, gaping. Rin dropped her head. To do well in school and get into an excellent university. That's you, not me, said Kristian, placing his head on his hand with a serious look on his face. I'm only here because you're here and if I'm not near you, I'll be thinking about you anyways so what's the point? I'll help you study and I can be next to you at the same time. Best deal right? How am I supposed to get mad at you when you say something like that? That's the point I believe. Rin tilted her head to the side. Well, we're only studying. Then once we're done, you're going home. That's not the deal, said Kristian, smirking at her. Even a tutor gets paid after he's done teaching. I simply ask that my payments come in something much more personal and intimate than cash. And why do you think I'll accept this deal when I can study on my own? asked Rin, daring Kristian to come up with a witty reply to this. Because, said Kristian, spreading his arms out. You'll miss me too much to study. Is that the best you can come up with? I'm not Odette, Kristian. No, you're not, said Kristian, sitting down and smiling innocently. You're better than Odette and you don't call me Kris either. You still haven't given me a reason to keep you around, said Rin in reminder. Kristian thought about it for a few seconds. Because I'll call you and bother you. You don't have my number anymore, said Rin with a mischievous smile. Your cell phone broke remember? Actually, said Kristian, smirking. After that incident yesterday, I asked Taffy Tiffy for your cell phone number and memorized it now, Rin-chan. Kristian told Rin her cell phone number quickly before he went on, So, shall we get to studying now, Rin-chan? I'm blocking your home phone number. I'll use someone else's cell phone. Rin shrugged. I don't accept private numbers or unknown numbers. I'll steal Jin's cell phone somehow since I know you always pick up to his number, said Kristian with a proud look on his face. Rin scowled. Well, I won't pick up any phone calls at all! I'll come bother you at your house instead if I can't call you and you know your mother will always open the door for me, hoping that we make little Kristians and Rins soon, said Kristian, licking his lips now. So, in the end, it's better to make it official like now right? You win, said Rin, running up the stairs. I hate you! Why does she even bother when she never wins against me? asked Kristian, leaning back in his seat and looking at the sketch that he hadn't threw away. She can think of stuff like this and she wouldn't even give me a kiss?

This is a crime! I heard that, said Rin, returning with a history book. That was quick, said Kristian in surprise. I said it out loud on purpose. If I kiss you, said Rin, glancing away with red cheeks. She noticed the teddy bear staring at her nearby. Would you concentrate on studying instead? Kristian's eyes widened. Who are you and what have you done with Rinchan? Study it is! said Rin happily, sitting down with the history book open to their chapter. Let's see! We are- I'll take that kiss, said Kristian, wrapping an arm over her shoulder. Did you change your mind about your view on our relationship? No... said Rin, sighing. Knowing you, you would distract me somehow during our study session so it's better to get it over with... Kristian lifted a brow. Should I be happy that you know me this well or sad that you don't like doing intimate stuff as much as I do? I like doing stuff like that too... said Rin before she met Kristian's eyes. No, actually, no I don't. You're right. I find it stupid, childish, icky, pointless, unnecessary- To stop Rin from going on, Kristian had already grabbed her by the shoulders and kissed her. They kissed for a while until Kristian moved his hand unconsciously underneath her shirt. Right when he slipped it in there, Rin jumped and moved away from Kristian with her hands on her lips. I can't do it. Rin-chan? With a flushed face, Rin shook her head frantically. No! I can't do it! It's so disgusting! I'll never do it! Never ever! Definitely not! Rin-chan, you're rambling, said Kristian, pulling her around to face him. Rin frowned at him. I-I can't do it Kristian. The minute I think about it, I shiver because it's so repulsive. Kristian lifted a brow and then held up the yaoi picture of him and Jordan with a dropped jaw, but Rin completely disregarded what he was trying to say through that picture. But really, I can't do it. I don't think I can ever do it. I think you're just overreacting... At the thought of that gross thing sticking into my mouth and- But... said Kristian, devastated. That's not possible. I mean... how do I say this... Kristian tried to think of something. This was the first time he was at a loss for words. You have to do it eventually... and... The thought of it is happening is sort of scary too, said Rin, shivering. Thanks to this comment, Kristian woke up from his confused trance. It's fine to be scared of your first time. Rin was lost now. Kristian had a gentle smile on his face. All you need to do is follow my lead and we should get through it just fine. Sure, your first time is going to hurt but it should be easier from then on. I'll make sure nothing happens to you so as long as you don't say never, we can-

Kristian, said Rin in interruption with wide eyes at his speech. Are we talking about the same thing here? Wait, what were you talking about? Rin narrowed her eyes dangerously. French kissing. Oh! laughed Kristian, taking a few steps away from a flushed Rin. Me too! Stupid Kristian! Rin threw the history book at him. He managed to duck just in time. Stupid Kristian! Stupid, stupid Kristian! ************************************************ Even though everyone else went on the bus, Tasha stayed behind to help Jin carry the cooler and other things back to Coach's car. Tasha smiled softly at Jin while they worked together to get his job done faster. At last, Jin was done and wiped his sweat from his forehead. He waved at Jezebelle, who was already inside his car, but she ignored him and continued to check her hair in the mirror. So cold, said Jin, laughing to himself. Thanks a lot Tasha. No, said Tasha, wrapping her hands behind her back. Many thanks to you Jin Song. It's because of you that I was able to realize that everyone was depending on me to win that match. I never thought that the team would depend on someone like me. It was a nice feeling. Is this what it means to feel grown up? Yes, it is, said Jin with a soft smile at her. I want to play in a way to help the team from now on, said Tasha with a firm nod. I don't want to play to only for myself anymore. I want everyone to have fun as well! Tasha paused and elevated her eyes to the evening sky. Though, I still want to be able to chat with my opponent like before. It's fun to make new friends! You just need to keep in mind that the team comes first. Exactly, said Tasha, giggling now. You really do understand, Jin Song. I'm glad I nominated you for team manager. Thanks, said Jin, looking up the sky too as well. Thanks for nominating me. Jin Song... may I ask one last request from you? Jin blinked and gazed at her. What is it Tasha? Blushing slightly, Tasha asked quickly, Would you like to walk Tinker Bell with me sometime? I hope it's not too much of a bother... I would love to walk Tinker Bell with you, said Jin without hesitating. Tasha nodded and skipped toward the bus. See you tomorrow then! Thank you very much! It makes me so happy! Waving after her, Jin had a smile on his face. He was glad that he could her. Maybe it wasn't so bad that Grim spread that rumor about him after all. Right when he turned around, he met Jezebelle's annoyed face. Unaffected, Jin beamed at her. As usual, she didn't seem to notice and indicated at the car instead. UCLA football game in thirty minutes, said Jezebelle in reminder. Oh, sorry, said Jin, hurrying back to the car with Jezebelle. Once they

were sitting inside the car, Jin thought of something. Fi, this has been on my mind for a while... Drive and talk, said Jezebelle, glaring at him. Obediently, Jin did just that. Right after he left the high school, he continued, Do you ever regret growing up so fast Fi? Staring at her fingernails, Jezebelle answered, No, not at all. Really? I can't stand kids, said Jezebelle, closing her eyes and laying her head against the car seat. I hate children. They're so annoying. Why would I want to be like them? Were you one of those kids who wanted to grow up really fast? Suddenly, at that question, Jezebelle popped her eyes open and glanced over at him. However, she relaxed again and muttered, I don't think I was ever a child to begin with. What did you say Fi? asked Jin, unable to hear her low voice. Jezebelle shook her head and closed her eyes again. Forget it. If you can't hear it the first time, spinach, it's not worth repeating. Jin frowned at this and continued the rest of the drive home in silence since Jezebelle seemed to be fast asleep. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he felt like he missed something important. For the first time in his life, Jin thought about how he deserved his nickname. Spinach was quite fitting.

Author's Note
Wow. This chapter was so easy to type. I literally typed up 15 pages in a single day. How did I manage that? I have no idea. In any case, I managed to fit a day in two chapters which made me very happy! This is random but no, I am not planning to write any lemon scenes in the future. XD This story is strictly rated PG13 for movies or M for video games (for language/suggestive themes). I won't describe what Rin drew in this chapter either. Use your imagination for that. XD Will I write out any future tennis matches? If I can improve my action-writing skills, we'll see... As for now, no. :P Please comment/vote/say hi to me, whatever. Until next time!
