from the pastor

My dear People, One thing I admire about churches in Australia, Canada, UK and US is that members do so much work for the church voluntarily. They do the cleaning of the sanctuaries and their facilities (including toilets). They cook and serve and wash up afterwards. Its because the churches are in a DIY (do-it-yourself) culture. In India we dont have a DIY culture. We have a PFTWTBD culture (thats pay-for-the-work-tobe-done). Now I do like having a press-wallah round the corner, who will iron my shirts (better than me). But there are things I like to do myselflike writing my own speeches (unlike politicians and similar creatures) and polishing my own shoes. In churches abroad, members man the PA system, the computers, the recording facilities Members step up to the line for all the things that their churches do. The pastors dont do anything except preach. We need people who will play musical instruments and those who will use their computer skills for extending the services of the church etc. etc. Every member has gifts and skills to contribute to the life and functioning of the church. Do you think of Grace Bible Church as yours? You own the church. Not to exploit it, but to take care of things. This month we celebrate turning 16 years old. You are sixteen, going on seventeen and its time to grow up and begin taking responsibility for yourself. Love, Pastor Kuru
