What problematic in transport and mobility in the city can be discussed from your academic discipline?

From time to time, the current mayors of Bogot begin giving ideas about transportation and mobility associated to increasing public transportation and stimulating use of bicycle or other transport methods different than car. From my career of electrical engineering is exciting to see a wide range of possibilities to increase the ways to ease and improve the transportation and mobility in the city. As the city grows and gets bigger and crowded by people, who have their home far from their working places, is the public transportation and cars the main way to carry people around the city, for this reason is useful to get solutions for this transportation methods. In first place is the idea of replacing or give an alternative for the actual transportation methods. That is recommended, because the actual methods cant be replaced instantly, it has to be a stepped process in the way. Lets start with fossil fuels, the main and currently the only way to feed our cars and public transportation. Right now, practical use of electric cars is a fact, so with a good chain of supplies (recharging stations, spare depots, qualified mechanics) a real possibility for reduce the contamination of the city is the entrance in the market of electrical vehicles. By now they are still more expensive than the traditional gas fueled models, but with some help of the government, may be reducing taxes for its entrance; they could be acquired at a competitive price for making them attractive for every market in the city. Other possible step, might be using electric engines in public bus service, starting with the flagship of the urban system (Transmilenio), that operates at a constant route with the same stops, making a real possibility to use an alternative bus that at least works with an hybrid engine (car with an electric and a fueled engine). Alternatives for the actual methods count by using a subway system as the proposed one that is going to be implemented in the city, reducing CO2 emissions to new low levels. Also the use of electric bicycles that ease the workout made for its moving, they are a very good way to mobilize around the bicycle paths designed to it. Other personal mean could be the use of Segway for the city, currently are only used by watchmen in shopping centers. Besides the alternatives for new transportation from electrical engineering, the use of any mass public transportation powered by electricity will make the costs for the operation cheaper, given the chance that Colombia is a country with some electrical sources. For mobility, the semaphore should be improved, doing it a smart prediction of traffic control, without human intervention.

But the city main problem with transportation is the lack of new roads and a real mass transport system as for an 8 million people city; the fact that it only has a BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) system is falling too short to the expectations. Concluding, the growing of the city, is determined by the fuel resource, and by Colombian case, producing electric energy is far times cheaper than buying gasoline. For a good environment in Bogota, the lawmakers should know a proposed waybill to increase the electrical consumption, so electrical engineer could be an interesting partnership association with the designers and the main workforces of any construction have to talk with an electrical engineer in the integration component of the construction, making the title so needed for the future of the transportation in the city.
