In the past few years there has been increasing traffic in our city centre.

It is becoming
frustrating for the residents to live with all the inconveniences such as the noise and pollution
as a result of it. In this essay I will discuss two possible approaches that could be taken by
the local council combating this problem.

The first option to consider is to increase the money investment. The government could
improve public transport. Not only by buying new and contemporary vehicles, but also by
making sure that they are on regular bases throughout the day so the city dwellers don’t have
to use their own cars. On the other hand they should be sure that there would be enough
resources to invest so as not to be necessary to redirect public funds from other sectors.

A second alternative would be heightening parking taxes. By doing this, people are going to
regulate the usage of their own cars for the account of using public transport. While it is true
that this might work for the inhabitants and change their behaviour, it could also put small
businesses under pressure. It could be challenging for them to assure parking places for all
their commuters that don’t have other options for going to work.

In order to reduce the traffic and make the city centre a car-free zone, all local people and the
council should do their best. Taking into consideration everything named above, I am
coming to the conclusion that taxes would be the best way to make the city centre a car-
free zone.
