Telecommunications Industry Use Case

Overview
One of the top mobile service provider in Hong Kong serving 1.6+ million subscribers, service coverage includes Hong Kong and Macau. They also have network partners working with them enabling their seamless global coverage.

Challenge
Effectively and efficiently process log files from 8000+ mobile receiver radios every 15 minutes. Each log file contains thousands of line items of all voice and data calls statistics. These information needs to be parsed and stored in the SAP Sybase database and performed analytics by SAP Business Objects. However, SAP BO can only provide limited analytics to the prebuilt/static dimensions and cannot offer the end users discovery capability.

Network Performance Visualizer

Data are input from SAP Sybase directly to the Panop&con plaAorm and refreshed upon new data arrival. Solu&on
100 150 users The client is able to perform real-time analysis. The end users are able visualize quality the performance of any given cell in the network that has high volume of call drops / call errors / and slow performance. Radio tower failure can happen, however, it is the degrading of performance over time that is most critical. The end users will study the data and use various graph types to investigate possible degrading radio receivers

Feedbacks
Clients can perform trend analysis over mul7ple reports and periods with a user-friendly interface Secure web-based interface through LDAP single- sign-on capability to sa7sfy regulatory governance needs Our users are sa7sfy from the start, because they were never able to inves7gate data with a tradi7onal BI system. In par7cular, the users change the view of the various dimensions easily.

The Need For Real-Time Analytics

1. Data-driven decision making is key
By looking at real-time data and insights, strategic, operational, and tactic decisions can be carefully reviewed and end up being much more effective and positively affecting the bottom line. Leadership can also use real-time analytics to factor into predictive analytics and look at real-time KPIs to better understand employee performance.

2. Real-time data can lead to better efficiency

By tracking systems, products, and equipment performance in real-time, quick decisions can be made that can greatly effect the efficiency of an entire department. By understanding which operational analytics have an impact on overall business performance, decision makers can be sure to track, measure, and tweak accordingly, which can decrease costs or lead to finding a better way to make processes run smoother. For instance, by analyzing a delivery truck in real-time and tracking the route and fuel use, the overall process can be evaluated to find out if there is a better route that may minimize fuel consumption and increase speed of performance. 3. Taking data to decisions, can make customers happy Customer intelligence through CRM applications can be a businesses greatest tool. With the ability to track individuals and their actions, businesses should be using this technology and harnessing and leveraging to create better customer experiences that are relevant and targeted. This is completely possible if real-time data is applied in real-time. This can include geographical data that uses geo-targeting for releasing geo-specific deals to customers based on their past experiences, preferences, and current location. Think relevancy!

The evolution to Real-Time and CEP

The Real-time revolution is now!

Real-Time & Near-Time Data Applications

Manufacturing
Monitoring of machine-born data, like sensor-based observation of the plant floor. Generate alerts the moment something goes wrong. Provide proactive, condition-based maintenance on key equipment.

Retail and CPG

Customer buying pattern monitoring. Demand planning. Financial controlling at SKU level.

IT monitoring
Enable the analysis of traces, performance parameters, alerts, etc. Results can be correlated across machines to optimize and troubleshoot at scale.

Web Analytics
Click-stream pattern detection. enable low-latency extraction of user behavior.

Utilities
Gaining operational and environmental efficiencies (i.e. smart grids). Provide immediate response to variations in energy or water consumption to minimize or avoid disruptions of service.
