STATE MINING CORPORATION

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES The State Mining Corporation (STAMICO) is a state owned enterprise which was established in 1972 with the objective of developing mining industry. Following changes in the economic policies of the earlier 1990s in favour of private sector led mining industry development STAMICO and its subsidiaries were privatized and others were liquidated. The Government reversed the decision to close down STAMICO through Government Notice No. 88 of 2009, after lessons learned in the performance of the private sector led mining industry development and the need as per Mining Act, 2010 that Government to have free carried or purchased interest in large scale mines. In that regard, STAMICOs new responsibilities is to oversee Government interests in large scale mines, invest in the mining sector through mineral prospecting, development and operate mines, mineral trading, value addition, providing services in management of mines, drilling, consultant services to small scale mining and other related business. In order for STAMICO to implement its new responsibilities and roles it desires to recruit suitable professionals to beef up its human resource capacity so as to be able to discharge effectively its objectives. 1.0 1.1 SENIOR GEOLOGIST (Two Posts) Principal duties and responsibilities Undertakes literature search (Archive, Internet) on mineral properties and areas of interest so as to acquire fiber properties; Prepares work plans for undertaking mineral exploration and their execution; Prepares geological reports after exploration work; Selects and recommends suitable prospects of mineral interest to the management; Monitors performance of exploration joint ventures; Ensures that STAMICO Tenements are in good standing;

Professional Qualifications and Experience

Minimum qualification is Bachelor of Science Geology with experience of 5 years in the mining industry. 1.3 Competence among others include: Ability to communicate with excellent writing skills; Ability to supervise and direct multifunctional professionals; Strong working knowledge of computer programs: Microsoft word, Excel, Publisher, mine and Mineral Exploration programs and database programs.

All applicants must be below 45 years old at the date of application. 2.0 2.1 GEOLOGIST I (One Post) Principal duties and responsibilities Supervises drilling operations; Analyzes geological data for exploration target identification; Undertakes geological mapping; Sites bore hole for drilling; Conducts field rock and mineral identification ; Undertakes core logging and sampling; Prepares geological report; Liaises with Geological Survey of Tanzania for the purpose of reviewing geological, geological, geochemical and geophysical data to aide mineral exploration and license acquisition; Applies for mineral rights of targeted areas; Develops individual objectives/targets and performance standards as part of the individual performance agreement in consultation with the immediate supervisor; and Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Professional Qualifications and Experience

Age Limit All applicants must be below 45 years old at the date of application. 3.0 GEOLOGIST II (4 posts) 3.1 Principal duties and responsibilities Prepares work plan for undertaking mineral exploration including geological mapping, sampling, geo-chemical and geo-physical investigation, bore hole drilling and costs for implementing the project; Surveys and identifies the type of rocks available and their tectonic properties; Analyzes the geological exploration report and determines mineral potential for license acquisition by STAMICO; Visits identified areas to further check and verify the existence of mineral potential; Develops individual objectives/targets and performance standards as part of the individual performance agreement in consultation with the immediate superior and Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor

Mineral Exploration

Mining
Conducts exploration for additional extension areas for mining; Study geological formation and structure to identify potential danger areas and advice accordingly;

All applicants must be below 35 years old at the date of application. 4.0 4.1 SENIOR MINING ENGINEER (Two posts) Principal duties and responsibilities Prepares maintenance schedules for drilling rigs and equipment; Prepares in house training programs for junior staff; Develops individual objectives/targets and all performance standards as part of the individual performance agreement in consultation with the immediate supervisor; and Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Mining
In collaboration with the geologist prepares a list of mechanical accessories required in the mines; Oversees repairs of mechanical equipment in the mines;

Coordinates operations of STAMICO and joint venture equipment parks and workshops established in mining areas; In collaboration with the geologist prepares mining plan; Prepares and reviews all tender documents and drawing; Supervises electrical installation by contractors; Supervises all civil engineering to ensure standards, quality and safety; Develops individual objectives/targets and all performance standards as part of the individual performance agreement in consultation with the immediate supervisor and Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Small Scale Mining


Provides consultancy services to small scale miners; Develops individual objectives/targets and all performance as part of the individual performance agreement in consultation with the immediate supervisor and Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Safety and Environment


Provides electrical safety consultancy services; Carries out accidents investigations and recommends control measures; Prepares articles on electrical safety; Develops individual objectives/targets and all performance as part of the individual performance agreement in consultation with the immediate supervisor and Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Mineral Processing and Engineering Services


Compiles and prepares periodic mineral production reports by joint venture partners and associates and advices management on technical adequacy; Develops training programs for usage and maintenance of equipment Prepares periodic mineral production reports; Coordinates operations of STAMICO and joint venture equipment parks and workshops established in mining areas; Develops individual objectives/targets and performance standards as part of individual performance agreement in consultation with the immediate supervisor and Performs other duties as assigned by immediate Supervisor.

Minimum qualification is Bachelor of Science in Engineering in relevant discipline from a recognized Institution with 3 years working experience in mining industry. 4.3. Principal duties and responsibilities Works closely with the procurement unit in recruiting private service providers and ensuring that the relevant contract safeguard the interests of the Corporation; Assists employees in obtaining medical services in National Health Insurance Fund accredited hospitals and other approved hospitals when necessary; Organizes staff social event and gatherings prevailing within the Corporation annually; Coordinates with the marketing department in organizing trade fairs; Draws working schedule for operative staff; Ensures that the Corporations premises are kept in good attractive state; Ensures the transport fleet in use for distribution purposes is in good condition and safe for usage;

Principal duties and responsibilities Ensures a comprehensive, accurate and up-to-date inventory of all office furniture, fittings and equipment is maintained; Ensures smooth provision of utilities i.e. water and electricity to Corporation offices; Supervises and checks performance of contracted private service providers e.g. security companies, catering services etc. to ensure that

STAMICO is offered at optimal levels and standards as per contract specifications; Evaluates the security setup of Corporations premises so as to ensure that adequate security precautions prevail at all times; Keeps control of keys according to recommendations of security companies to ensure integrity of security of STAMICO premises and property; Monitors the use of the transport for optimal use and impact of Corporation activities.
