She has been a part of the BRICC since it was ‘merely an idea, back in 1981, Her early association with the Center ‘was through friends who were organizing the formation of the BRICC and securing our first location, the storefront behind the old Co-op on University. ‘An accomplished singer, Claire's first major involvement with the Center was a concert of Yiddish folk and classical music held here in 1983. She not only sings in Yiddish, but speaks, reads and writes it too! “I spoke Yiddish as a child with my Orthodox grandmother who lived with us,” Claire says, “and she was the first and most important inspiration in my life as a Jew.” {A few years later, Claire was invited to join the BRICC Program Commitice, the group which plans our adult events. She agreed, and her involvement, which continues to this day, led to nomination as a member of the BRICC Board of Directors. However, after a short time, another opportunity arose, and Claire reluctantly resigned from the Board to enthusiastically become a member of our staff. She began as Capital Campaign Assistant, and is now Capital ‘Campaign Coordinator. Claire is also coordinating fundraising efforts for the Older Adult program. In addition, you may hear her voice on the phone, or be greeted by her smiling face, since she is a part of the reorganization of the front reception office. As an involved community member, and as a staff member, Claire feels “the role of a Jewish Community Center must be as vital in the community as are its thriving synagogues. We can reach people who would otherwise have no Jewish affiliation of any kind.” Claire, your hard work and commitment is an asset to our Center!
