October Pre-K Newsletter
Welcome
Our Pre K classes are off to a
great start! We are settled
in our classroom rountines
and are enjoying learning
more and more each day.
Readers Workshop
We are using two different
programs to help us learn
the skills we need to read.
The SRA Language for
Learning Program is teaching
us to recognize common
objects and to name them
in complete sentences.
The Wright Skills Phonological
And Awareness Program is helping
us to develop oral language,
respond to questions, develop
print and book concepts and make
predictions about a story.
We have just finished reading
Mrs. Wishy Washy by Joy Cowley.
We loved learning about the animals
in the story and how they played in
the mud. We are now reading
Grandpa, Grandpa by Joy Cowley
and are learning about the beach
and the fish that live in the ocean.

Writing Skills
We are learning to tell stories
through drawings. We are
starting to learn to write
letters and numbers and
how to draw shapes.
Everyday Math
Everyday Math is the program
that we are using each day for
mathematics. Topics are
introduced in an instructional
approach and are revisited
regularly to ensure full concept
development and long term
retention of learning. We are
now concentrating on counting
and recognizing numbers 1-5.
We are also learning shapes
and other basic skills through
ongoing routines, songs and
mathematical games.
Parent Tips
Please make sure your child
is in school at 8:00 am.
Kindly label all of your child’s
clothing.
Please check book bags daily
for any notices.
