Pastors Corner
THE MEANING OF SIN Lenten reflection revolves around mans sins and the saving grace of God through Christ. It all started in the Garden of Eden, when Adam and Eve made a wrong choice, following the serpents voice rather than God. Sin is the reason why the Son of God had to become man and die on the cross. It is very important for us to understand sin and realize its effects in our relationship with God and with others. Sin as a Crime - Sin is a violation of Gods law or a breaking of the moral laws. Sin as Ingratitude - The more aware we become of the love of God, the more aware we are of the inadequacy of our response to that love and the more conscious we are of our sinfulness. Sin as Dishonesty - Truth comes from God and lies comes from the devil. Sin is hiding the truth and letting the devil take control. Sin as Irresponsibility - Like Eve who blames the serpent and Adam who blames Eve, sin is not being responsible for ones behavior and finding excuse for wrongdoing . Sin as Missing the Mark - Sin appears as the condition or state of being focused on goals other than God, finding meaning in life without ultimate reference to God. Sin as Arrogance of Power - Sin is the misuse of powers given to us by God for doing good, a use contrary to God's commandments. Sin as Failure to Grow Maturity is the ability to love and be loved and to do productive work. Sin always involves love of self and refusal to go out of selfcenteredness. Sin as Harming the Body of Christ - The effects of sin move from Individual to communal. Every sin harms the Church, humanity, the earth.
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Rom 6:23).
