Wildcats Take on Delaware Saturday

Villanova off to best start since 2010

The Villanova womens lacrosse team (3-1) begins a three-game road stint this Saturday at Delaware (23). Opening draw is slated for 1 p.m. at Delaware Stadium in Newark, Del. The Wildcats defeated Drexel Wednesday afternoon, 9-5. Senior attack Ali Judge, sophomore midfielder Shannon Galvin and freshman defender Mariah Salerno finished with two goals each while junior attack Jessica Mucci had a goal and two assists. Villanova outshot the Dragons 20-15 and completed 15-of-15 clears. The Wildcats also held a 16-14 advantage in ground balls and earned 10 draw controls to Drexels five. Sophomore goalkeeper Jaclyn Fraum had another fantastic outing in her second collegiate start. Fraum made seven saves, all in the second half, while collecting two ground balls. Mucci leads the team in points (3G, 10 A) and assists through four games while sophomore attack Kelsey Denihan leads the Wildcats in goals (10). Junior midfielder Hannah Goforth has the team lead in ground balls with 11 while sophomore midfielder Chelsey Henderson has seven draw controls. Villanova is off to its best start since the 2011 season, when the team also started 3-1. In head coach Julie Youngs first two seasons, the Wildcats have started 1-3 through four games in each year. Midfielder Casey Lyons scored five goals and notched two assists in the contest as the Blue Hens had a 12-goal second half outburst. Goalkeeper Tori Zorovich played 57 minutes and allowed four goals while making five saves. Delaware outshot the Explorers 30-15. Lyons leads the Blue Hens offensively this season with 10 goals and five assists. Caitlin McCartney (12G, 1A) and Chelsey Fay (10G, 3A) are second with 13 points each. Alex Zaugra has started all five games in goal, with Zorovich playing in three. Zaugra holds a 10.48 goals against average and .400 save percentage while Zorovich holds a 9.72 goals against average and .379 save percentage. Delaware has outscored opponents 55-11 and holds a 122-118 shots advantage. The Blue Hens are 2-0 at home and 0-3 on the road.
