THE GIVING OF HIS TITHES AND OUR OFFERINGS *THE DOXOLOGY Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow Isaiah 50:4-9a #625 *THE PRAYER OF DEDICATION THE OLD TESTAMENT LESSON THE MESSAGE The Power Principle and Holy Week Pastor Burrow (How did Jesus get through that awful week, and how we can get through the tough times? The crowds on Palm Sunday seemed to take His power away. He seemed to be the victim. Many people feel that way today. They feel they have lost their power. Its devastating. Jesus lost his power during Holy Week. But, Jesus turned his loss of power to victory. He came out on top. So can you, if you practice some principles taught us by Jesus.) INVITATION TO CHRISTIAN DISCIPLESHIP AND CHURCH MEMBERSHIP *THE HYMN OF INVITATION Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus #481 THE PASTORAL PRAYER AND PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE THE LORDS PRAYER (In Unison) Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. Welcome to Worship
elcome to New Hope Church, now into our third century serving God! If you are visiting, you will discover a loving, spirit-filled church family. Here is some helpful information as you join us in worship today: All who worship here are equals in the sight of God, regardless of race, age, gender, physical disability or religious affiliation. Communion, when celebrated, is open to all who profess Christ as Lord and Savior, whether affiliated with this church or not. Children may partake of Communion as well, if parents approve. A nursery is available during the service; please see a greeter for directions. (This is for infants and children up to 3 years of age.) Handicap-accessible restrooms are located off the narthex (main foyer) and adjacent to the entrance lobby in the Fellowship Hall/Gym. Please complete the tear-off attendance slip attached to the bulletin and drop it in the offering plate so we will have a record of your visit with us today. Thank you for remembering to silence your cell phone during the service. We ask that there be no food or beverages in the sanctuary, please. If you arrived as a visitor we hope that you leave as a friend and worship with us often! New Hope Church exists to: Glorify God in worship and rejoice in our life together; Share the Good News of the Gospel in word and deed; Reach as many as we can with the saving love of Jesus; Help each person grow toward Christian maturity, and find their place of service in the church and in the world.
One Great Hour of Sharing Easter offering will be taken next week to help the Cumberland Presbyterian Disaster Fund which responds to some of the most critical needs with material aid. This offering is shared with Church World Service. We have ordered special envelopes for your use. Good Friday Service of Tenebrae (darkness) is this week April 18th at 7:30. The sanctuary will be plain (stripped of all vestments). Just a pain old rugged cross to observe this solemn event the death of our Lord for our sins. The sanctuary lights are lowered as the story of Jesus death is told. Communion will be observed, and the congregation departs the service silently and in darkness. Several people related to the pastor after last years service that this was the most moving service of the year. Join us Friday evening you will have a greater appreciation for Sunday morning. Bob Martin is heading up a mission action. Fiddlers Grove Cowboy Church is Collecting BICYCLES IN ANY CONDITION. If you have a bike or trike to donate please call, 615-585-5890 and we will be happy to pick up your donation. Deadline -- May 25. Church Camps are fast approaching - We are concerned that every child in our church, those ready for the 4th grade and older, will have the privilege of going to camp this June. We serve a lot more children than we have ever served before. We have traditionally paid one half of the camp fee for every child who attends our church. That will be more costly within itself this year because of the increased numbers. We also know that some of our children will not even be able to pay half their fee. We are working on setting a $20 minimum for each child attending camp, just to make sure that each child and their family has some investment in the program. So it may be that some of you who dont have children camp age will adopt a child and help them. See Pastor Brad if you would like to help a child get to camp this year. Stephen Ministry - Got a burden? You dont have to carry that burden alone. You can have a STEPHEN MINISTER who will spend time with you, listen to you, and walk beside you. If you or someone you know is interested in receiving
care through the Stephen Ministry program at New Hope, please contact the pastor through the Church office at (615) 449-7020 and request that a Stephen minister contact you.
I am the utter contempt of my neighbors and an object of dread to my closest friends those who see me on the street flee from me. 12 I am forgotten as though I were dead; I have become like broken pottery. 13 For I hear many whispering, Terror on every side! They conspire against me and plot to take my life. 14 But I trust in you, Lord; I say, You are my God. 15 My times are in your hands; deliver me from the hands of my enemies, from those who pursue me. 16 Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love. Footnotes: a. Psalm 31:10 Or guilt Isaiah 50:4-9 New International Version (NIV) 4 The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being instructed. 5 The Sovereign Lord has opened my ears; I have not been rebellious, I have not turned away. 6 I offered my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard; I did not hide my face from mocking and spitting. 7 Because the Sovereign Lord helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore have I set my face like flint, and I know I will not be put to shame. 8 He who vindicates me is near. Who then will bring charges against me? Let us face each other! Who is my accuser? Let him confront me! 9 It is the Sovereign Lord who helps me. Who will condemn me? They will all wear out like a garment; the moths will eat them up.
