ART WORLD ALLIANCES: NEGOTIATING RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE ART


CLASSROOM, ART WORLD AND ART TEACHERS PROFESSIONAL OBLIGATIONS

Location: UNSW Kensington Campus, John Goodsell Building, Room 119 - (Map ref F20) This professional learning day provides the opportunity for highly accomplished Visual Arts teachers to address contemporary developments in art and education that affect teaching and learning in Visual Arts 7-12 in NSW schools. Content will include: 1. The Australian curriculum: the Arts and concepts of available for use; awaiting final endorsement with a focus on NSWs position 2. Opportunities and tensions that arise in using the Visual Arts Stage 6 syllabus that has been in circulation for 15 years 3. Opportunities and tensions in assessment practice 4. Recent developments in research involving how students learn to build and apply concepts in their critical interpretation of artworks 5. Innovative approaches to programming that include: a. The use of contemporary Chinese art as a hook to engage students and develop their critical and historical writing b. Connecting students and communities through contemporary art and architecture in Japan and western Sydney with a focus on examples from the recently developed Architects Registration Board teaching resource c. Codexurbanite students public interventions in the urban environment using coded messages and QR codes in socially engaged art. All presenters are highly qualified and well known to Visual Arts teachers.
