The Henley & Partners Visa Restriction Index is a global
ranking of countries according to the travel freedom that
their citizens enjoy. Henley & Partners has analyzed the visa regulations of all the countries and territories in the world and created an index which ranks countries according to the visa-free access their citizens enjoy to other countries. The index is produced in cooperation with the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which maintains the worlds largest database of travel information. How to read the index: Finland, Sweden and the United Kingdom rank as number one as their citizens can travel without a visa to 173 other countries: these three countries have 173 visa-free travel arrangements in place. The Henley Visa Restrictions Index was developed by Henley & Partners in cooperation with IATA and is published annually. The maximum attainable score is 218 (one point is subtracted to account for a national traveling to their own country, with the exception of nationals who must hold a visa to re- enter their home country, and for nationals of countries not considered as a destination. The latter group can therefore reach a max. score of 219). The list was created with regulations valid as of 1 July 2013. It takes into account the new visa regime in Kosovo (effective 1 July), visa exemptions applicable to nationals of Croatia as a new member of the European Union (effective 1 July), and temporary visa exemptions in Albania, for nationals of some GCC member states (effective between June and September 2013). It does not reflect the new visa regime in Senegal (effectively enforced from 1 August). The United Kingdom nationality is understood as holding a British Citizen passport. Territories dependent on the United Kingdom hold British passports. The following are not considered as nationalities: Anguilla, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Montserrat, Turks and Caicos Islands, Virgin Islands (British) The following are also considered as destinations with the travel rules applicable as follows: Andorra and Monaco travel rules for France applied Liechtenstein travel rules for Switzerland applied San Marino and Vatican City travel rules for Italy applied The following are considered destinations but not as nationalities: Territories dependent on Australia: Norfolk Island Territories associated with New Zealand: Cook Islands, Niue Territories under administration of the USA: Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, Samoa, Virgin Islands (American) Territories under administration of the Netherlands: Aruba, Curacao, St. Maarten, Bonaire, St Eustatius and Saba Territories dependent on France: French Guiana, French Polynesia, French West Indies, Mayotte, New Caledonia, Reunion 2014 by Henley & Partners.
