CALL FOR PAPERS
We have long been in age of globalization. However globalization does not progress without
resting on local. Moreover, as peoples mobility has become dynamic and thus the society has
been multi-culturalized with diverse ethnics, plus the innovation of science technology,
including media technology, we can see the nature of the modern world, that is: the influence of
local movements characterizes our globalized world.
Therefore, social science at this period should examine the dynamics of mutual influence
between global and local movements based on glocal perspectives. This perspective is
inevitable when we probe into the theory and practice in our glocalized world and deserved as
the theme of 22nd IFSSO General Conference in Tokyo, Japan in 2015. All issues happening
in that world do correspond not only to political and economic problems but also to social and
cultural problems in peoples life-world.
IFSSO has been developed important concepts out of the conference discussions, dealing with
peace and human security. In 2011, Japan has suffered severe damage from the recent
earthquakes and tsunami. The experience of the massive and tragic disaster has posed the
problems on disaster prevention, international assistance and community recovery to that
country. These problems, however, cannot be regarded to one regions or one nations.
Nowadays we can find the globalized world even in the local communities, which have
connected to the outer beyond nations by peoples mobility as well as the nation has deepened
the relation with other nations. Thus the problems on mass disasters and the following
international cooperation should be tackled with the glocal perspectives. Then, in the modern
society, what could Social Science do? What is the Social Sciences raison d'tre? And what
kind of actions could IFSSO, national social science organizations, universities and educational
institutions specifically take?
Thus, the international conference in Tokyo, 2015 aims to gather academics, specialists, and
writers of all persuasions from different parts of the world to undertake research on the
following issues and problems from glocal perspectives to make progress toward better
conditions in society: theoretical inquiry on glocalization, experiences on glocalization,

problems on multi-cultural societies, disaster and recovery, innovation and society,
individualized society and peoples mobility, the problems on peace, education and environment
at glocal level. We do also pay attention to the importance of the issues related to
glocalization, such as: family issues, poverty and inequity, media and social psychology,
religion and society. Paper presenters are encouraged to share their insights and
recommendations on those issues that will to contribute to building worlds harmony and peace.

Scholars are encouraged to write papers on any of the following topics:

Theoretical Approach on Glocalization; Timespace and homogeneityheterogeneity
Scapes and Experiences of Glocalization: Ethnoscape, technoscape, finanscape,
mediascapes and ideoscapes
Migrants and Glocalization: Multiculturalism in life-world
Social Innovation and Glocalization : The social meaning of economic development:
Individualization and Society: Social bond in contemporary world
Educational Institutes/Research Organizations contribution: Inquiring the possibilities of
international/transnational cooperation of research and education in the glocalized world.
Disaster and Catastrophe: Global feedforward and glocal feedback on reconstructing
community
Peace and Harmony in the Glocalized world: From social scientific viewpoints
Social Design for Sustainable Environment: For better natural environment and social
environment
Other topics on Glocalization from Interdisciplinary Approach will be welcomed, such as:
Family Issues, Poverty and Inequality, Media and Social Psychology, Religion and Society,
International Relationship.

Important Notes
a) Abstracts of papers should not exceed 250 words. The Abstracts should be submitted to the
Conference Secretariat on or before September 30, 2014. Attach together with the Abstract a
half-page Curriculum Vitae of the author. The CV should be in Word format. Submission

b) The announcement on which papers have been selected for presentation in the Conference
will be made on or before October 15, 2014.
c) Accepted paper presenters should submit their full papers to the Conference Secretariat on or
before February 28, 2015. The full paper should not exceed 15 pages.
d) We select some paper presenters as travel grant recipients, who will be provided with
subsidies for travel expenses and accommodation in Tokyo. However, the amount will be
different according to the presenters residential areas: 1)Domestic/ Japan, 2) Asian Region,
3) Non-Asian Regions
e) The language of the conference is English.
