Library Renovations

Big changes are coming to the

STRHS Library next fall. Though
the library has been closed the last
two weeks of school, it will be open-
ing when school returns and will be
better than ever.
The new library will have a modern
look, soft seating, caf tables, new
computers, and more new books.
While the library is updating its de-
sign, the fiction collection has been
reorganized by genre to make brows-

ing more simple. The most active library
users have enthusiastically embraced
this change. It makes looking for the
right book easier for students who are
accustomed to shopping for books at
book stores.
It is an exciting time for STRHS as we
undergo the renovation and expansion.

New to the library this
year was the STRHS
book club.
The most popular book
was the Fault in Our
Stars by John Green.
Several students met to discuss
the book, share the other books
they were reading and watch
the movie trailer for the recent-
ly released film version of the
book.
Next year, the book club will
add a new activity, blind date

with a book. There
will be several books
with plain brown
book covers, and stu-
dents will read one
with out knowing the
title or appearance of the
book.
There will be new common
read books for next year
including 1984 by George
Orwell. If you have further
suggestions, see Ms. Y.
The library is always adding great new books to the shelves.
And now the library is offering a great new way to satisfy
your appetite for reading.
The library now has two Kindles available for students to
check out. The Kindle comes loaded with books and apps
that are great for engaging the mind.
As in years past students can check out books for the summer
to complete their summer reading projects. Stay tuned next
year for more e-books. Students will be able to browse the
library catalog for a new way to enjoy books by their favorite
authors.
As always the library is looking for recom-
mendations for titles to add to the library. We
welcome suggestions in person, by e-mail, or
through the STRHS library page. Use this
link to make your suggestions:

She is also an alumna from Wor-
chester Polytechnic Institute and

She has fond memories of her
time at STRHS and credits a
math teacher with encouraging
her to pursue engineering.
You can read about Judys story
in Women of Steel and Stone
which is available now at the
STRHS Library.
STRHS alumna Judith
Nitsch was featured in a
new book about inspiring
women who became suc-
cessful architects and engi-
neers despite choosing a
field dominated by men.
Judy Nitsch is the found-
ing principal of Nitsch en-
gineering, a civil engineer-

Sometimes it is nothing
more than gritting your

work of every day, the slow

Over the past two years,
Big Y shoppers earned
STRHS 5,655,900 points
towards school supplies.
With these points, the
school was able to add a
great deal to the high
school community.
The film studies class used
the cameras and tripods to
make short films.
In addition to adding two
digital video cameras and
tripods, the school also
added a digital projector
with a DVD player and a
Wii video game system.

Big Y Education Express boost technology at STRHS

The Wii was used by
the New Horizons club
the first day it arrived.
The students were
thrilled to have such an
innovative activity.
Mrs. Bean, the clubs
advisor noted how the
Wii made the students
feel more equal.
Pathways students did
just as well in the Wii
games as the other
members of the club,
and in some cases even
better!
