Childrens liturgy needs your help!
Did you ever wonder where all the children go
during the UCCs morning Mass? Heres your
chance to find out! Volunteers are needed to
help lead Childrens Liturgy sessions at the 9:00
am Mass (10:30 am in the summer). If you
enjoy working with children, this is a great
opportunity to help bring the Sunday liturgy to them at a level they
can understand. For more information, email re@utcatholic.org.
Jesus feeding of the 5,000 was a preview of the Eucharist. We
learn later that Jesus is the Bread of Life. What activities could you
add to your spiritual life to increase your spiritual nourishment?
Mass Assumption of Mary Friday, August 15
Though the UCC is ordinarily closed on Fridays
through the summer, we will open for Mass at 12:05
pm on Friday, August 15, to celebrate the Solemnity
of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Mass
will be held in the Holy Spirit Chapel.

There will also be Mass at 8 am at St. Austin Parish.

Recently the UCCs air conditioning
equipment has suffered several major
breakdowns and is currently running at a limited capacity.
Rather than spending additional funds on expensive new parts
for our antiquated chiller, the UCC is beginning a fundraising
drive to replace our outdated equipment with a new, efficient
chiller that will reward us with energy savings each month.

To replace the chiller, the UCC needs to raise $90,000.

Thanks to the blessed generosity of one of our community
members, we already have $45,000 pledged for the new
chiller! To continue to provide for our growing campus
ministry, it is critical that we raise the additional $45,000 as
soon as possible. To contribute, send a check to the UCC with
HVAC written on the memo line or give online at:
utcatholic.org/give/hvac! Thank you!

Meghan Vail, our Business Manager these
past three years, will be pursuing a full time
Masters of Divinity degree. She had hoped to
continue to work with us but eventually
discerned that it would not be possible to
accede to the demands of both full time
graduate work and working with us.

Meghan has been an invaluable asset to our ministry team and will
be greatly missed. In her time as Business Manager she has not only
ably managed the facilities, especially the HVAC equipment, but
negotiated great maintenance contracts and business contracts and
found many ways to cut our costs of running the day-to-day
operations of the UCC. She managed our Human Resources and
kept track of all of the necessary information for our staff.

From the beginning, her work was always more than a job for her,
it was a ministry. From time to time she also put her pastoral skills
to use. She indeed has been a great asset to our team. Before her
departure on August 12
th
she will be training her replacement,
Danielle Costanzo, a recent UT grad and past president of the
Longhorn Catholic Council. Next Sunday after the 10:30 am Mass
we will have a little reception with some cake as a small way of
thanking Meghan for her ministry here.

Though she is only leaving our staff and not our community just
yet, we wish her well in her future endeavors.

Masculine Spirituality Tuesdays, 7:30 pm
An ongoing weekly opportunity to talk with
other men in an attempt to balance a spiritual
identity with the demands and rewards of work
and home. The starting point is a reading shared
at the beginning of the session. The group meets
year-round and men join in when they can.
Meets Tuesdays at 7:30 pm in the Sts. Joan &
Raymond room at St. Austin. To learn more,
email Michael Flahive at mflahive@staustin.org.
Conversations with Pope Francis
This series runs from July 13th through September.
Meetings will be held 10:15 - 11:15 am Sunday
mornings in Newman Hall. Each week we will hear
an excerpt from Pope Francis The Church of Mercy
and then delve into what each reading means for us.
There is no need to attend all sessions, so come
when you can!
A message from Bishop VsQuez
Thousands of children are fleeing their home
countries of El Salvador, Guatemala, and
Honduras due to the lack of economic
opportunity and threats to the welfare of their
families. For parents, sending their children on
this life-threatening journey to the U.S. is
viewed as the last remaining option to secure
their safety. By the end of September, officials
are predicting that up to 90,000 children will
have crossed the U.S. border in 2014.

Catholic Charities across the state of Texas have not lost sight of
the fact that these children are young, scared, and desperate. Now,
more than ever, they need and deserve our protection and support,
and we have risen to the call to action to care for these children,
but we cannot do the work without supporters like you.

to learn how you can help, please visit the following websites:
