made a provocation.
- To apply the movement technique efficiently you have to suspend judgment and move
along the possibilities.
- Its aim is to get some practical and useful ideas and suggestions.

that you have made.
- Then you keep extracting from the different aspects other ideas or feature trying to
narrow done the scope looking for practical and useful idea.
- You keep moving you get practical suggestions or ideas
Example of Extraction (1)

1- Provocation (Po,):
Po, bring back the town crier.

2- Explanation of the provocation:
In a modern city with high-rise buildings, sealed ventilation, and a lot of traffic, a town
crier would not be much good - but this is only a provocation. What principles, concepts or
features do we see in a town crier?

3- Extract some aspects, concepts from the provocation:
Example of Extraction
- the town crier can go to where the people are
- the town crier can change the message according to the audience
- the town crier can answer questions
- the town crier is a respected official figure
- the town crier is always up to date
- you cannot switch the town crier off

4- Extract any of the aspects and use it to move forward:
The concept to be extracted is:
We can not switch the town crier off
Example of Extraction
- 5- Try to derive some ideas from this:
So now you forget all about the town crier and look around for a medium that you would
be unable (or at least, unwilling) to turn off.
The telephone comes to mind.
The idea would be to have public telephones that made no charge for a call because the
conversation was interspersed with advertising messages.
Example of Extraction
Advertisers would pay for the addition of these taped messages and the caller would get
free calls.
This could be limited to local calls.
The possible practical idea
So we see how it is possible to move forward from a provocation to develop an original
idea which could have a real value.
