Tom Saldutti of Moorestown is
using his time at Villanova Uni-
versity to not only prepare for life
in the real world but to give back.
A sophomore at Villanova, Sal-
dutti is a member of the schools
Special Olympics committee,
helping plan the largest student-
run Special Olympics event in the
world.
Getting involved with the Spe-
cial Olympics at Villanova was a
project close to Salduttis heart.
I originally joined because
Fall Fest sounded like an amazing
experience at Villanova. I also
saw it as a way to give back to the
differently abled community after
my family has received so much
help with my brother Michael
who has Down Syndrome, Sal-
dutti said.
Villanova students organize
and host the Special Olympics
Pennsylvania Fall Festival. Spe-
cial Olympics Pennsylvania pro-
vides year-round sports training
and competition for more than
20,000 children and adults with in-
tellectual disabilities. The organi-
zation offers more than 260 local

Moorestowns Girls on the Run
to kick off in mid-September
Girls on the Run is a life-chang-
ing character development pro-
gram for girls in third through
fifth grade. We inspire girls to be
joyful, healthy and confident
using a fun, experience-based
curriculum which creatively inte-
grates running. Girls on the Run
of New Jersey is an Affiliate
Council of Girls on the Run Inter-
national, which has a network of
more than 140 chapters across the
United States and Canada.
The dynamic 10-week program
combines training for a 5k run-
ning race with education and in-
teractive discussions about criti-
cal issues that will affect pre-teen
girls as they reach adolescence.
Trained volunteer coaches teach
life lessons to girls through fun
and clever running games and
workouts. Our goal is that girls
completing the program are phys-
ically, mentally and emotionally
stronger and better prepared to
overcome the challenges and
pressures of adolescence and be-
yond.
Our Moorestown site will meet
at Boundary Creek Park on
Wednesday and Friday 4:15-5:30

The Board of Trustees of the
Moorestown Community House
recently announced the appoint-
ment of Bradley J. Kenney as the
new executive director. Kenney, a
lifelong Moorestown resident,
lives in town with his wife,
Kendra, and newborn son, Jack.
The board members are excited to
have a Moorestown native take
over the reins of this historic and
iconic emblem of the community.
A commissioner of
Moorestown Fire District No. 1
and volunteer firefighter, Kenney
has served this community for
years.
I see this new role as a way to
continue serving the community

200 Club to host
county service for 9/11
The 200 Club of Burlington County an-
nounced that it will hold the organization's
13th annual 9/11 Memorial
Prayer Service in remembrance
of Sept. 11, 2001, on Thursday,
Sept. 11 at Trinity Episcopal
Church, 207 W. Main St.
The service will begin at 7:30 a.m. and is
intended to commemorate the 13th an-
niversary of our nation's tragedy. It will
honor all of those who died and also pay
tribute to the first responders, including
police officers, firefighters and emergency
services personnel.
The guest speaker for the service will be
Rusty Williams, retired police officer, para-
medic and ordained Christian minister.
The memorial prayer service will be at-
tended by members of municipal, county
and state law enforcement agen-
cies along with area firefighters,
emergency medical personnel,
emergency coordinators and rep-
resentatives of local, county, state
and federal government.
A breakfast for those attending will im-
mediately follow the service at the church.

ew Jerseys trial run if you
can call it that with red light
cameras didnt go so well. For
drivers who ran red lights, it went
swimmingly, but for the state not so
much.
Last week, word came down that
some drivers who were caught on cam-
era running red lights were never in-
formed of the fines they faced because
of a technical glitch in the system. The
state Judiciary, as a result, asked local
courts to throw out the infractions all
17,000 of them.
In New Jersey, red light camera in-
fractions result in an $85 fine, but no
points on a drivers license. At $85 a
pop, thats $1,445,000 in lost revenue, all
because of a technical glitch from a
company that supposedly specializes
in this.
State lawmakers are angry, and
rightfully so.
Said Assemblyman Declan OScan-
lon, of Monmouth County: These
companies incessantly tout the sup-
posed accuracy and consistency of
their systems when the only thing
consistent about the camera company
representatives is their blatant misrep-
resentation of what the equipment
does and how accurately it does it.
People make mistakes, but this is a
big mistake by American Traffic Solu-
tions, which runs half of the states in-
tersections with red light cameras.
Lets just switch to the other compa-
ny that runs our red light cameras,
you might say. Well, the CEO of that
other company, Redflex, was just in-
dicted on federal corruption charges
for allegedly bribing Chicago officials.
Not to mention, a former Redflex exec-
utive also accused the company of pay-
ing bribes to government officials in 13
states, including New Jersey.
Seems to us that these red light cam-
eras, or at least the companies that
were hired to run them, need to be re-
moved, or at least replaced. Theres no
sense in paying for a service thats ei-
ther ineffective or, worse, possibly ob-
tained through illegal means.
We in New Jersey do enough wrong
ourselves that we dont need an outside
company to come in and screw things
up for us; were plenty good at that our-
selves, thank you very much.
The contract for red light cameras
expires in December, and it would be
best if the state didnt renew the agree-
ment, not until it studies its full results
and finds a new company or two to pro-
vide the service.

tional competitions.
Saldutti became involved
through the schools Local Pro-
gram Host opportunity as a fresh-
man. Through the program, ap-
proximately 80 freshmen are se-
lected to participate in an experi-
ence that will acclimate them
with the basic ideals and philoso-
phy of the Special Olympics
movement and create bonds with
those who share similar passions
for volunteerism. It only took in-
volvement in one Fall Fest for Sal-
dutti to be hooked.
After being a LPH freshman
last year, I discovered that I truly
enjoy giving my own time to en-
sure that the athletes who come to
Villanova have an amazing week-
end and can feel that they belong
to our community, Saldutti said.
Watching and interacting with
the athletes during their stay at
the school are the memories that
stuck with Saldutti.
In between events, I was hang-
ing out with my LPH partner and
one of the athletes from our coun-
ty. The athlete was recording a
snap chat to send to one of her
friends, and she pointed the cam-
era at us and we waved saying hi
and go Nova. She then turned
the camera around and said in
the most sincere way I love Vil-
lanova! Saldutti said. At this
point, I realized how much this
weekend meant to the athletes
and how lucky I was to be a part
of it all.
The upcoming festival will pro-
vide more memories and more
fun for Saldutti.
My favorite part about Fall
Festival is walking around dur-
ing competition. It's fun to jump
between different parts of cam-
pus and see all of the athletes
competing in their own events,
Saldutti said. The campus feels
alive more than ever as a mixture
of staff, volunteers, athletes and
the families of the athletes rush
around campus.

Burlington County has begun
delivery of more than 40,000 blue
recycling carts as part of the tran-
sition to single stream recycling.
Starting on their first recycling
collection in September, residents
with curbside collection will be
able to recycle their cans, bottles,
newspapers and cardboard in the
same container. For residents
with paper carts, their paper cart
will become their single stream
cart.
While many homes will be
able fit all their recyclables into
their existing paper cart, we
knew that some households
would need more cart capacity.
Residents who ordered an extra
cart between last September and
this July should receive their
carts by the end of September.

cart and dont receive it before
single stream begins should use
their current buckets for overflow

There is an ongoing telephone
scam referencing the Burlington
County Sheriff s Department. Ac-
cording to Sheriff Jean Stanfield,
a suspect identifying himself as a
member of the sheriff s depart-
ment has been calling victims
and informing them that they
have a warrant issued for their
arrest on failure to report to jury
duty. The suspect then advises
victims to purchase Vanilla Visa
or Green Dot cards to pay the fine.
Once purchased, the suspect ad-
vises the victims to go to the
county building at 49 Rancocas
Road, Mt. Holly, threatening that
they will be arrested upon enter-
ing the building and therefore
should verify the numbers and
amounts on the card prior to
entry.
The sheriff s office would
never contact residents in this
manner and does not solicit bail
or fine money for payment over
the phone. The Burlington Coun-
ty Sheriff s Department and the
Burlington Township Police De-
partment are currently conduct-
ing a joint investigation into the

transition to single stream and
the delivery of additional recy-
cling carts to over 40,000 individ-
ual homes is a massive undertak-
ing. There will be bumps in the
road and we ask our residents to
please be patient. As problems
arise we will work to fix them
quickly.
It is important that residents
know how the switch to single
stream recycling will affect their
specific area, Garganio said.
For example residents in Bor-
dentown City, Fieldsboro and Sha-
mong, the historic village of Roe-
bling, historic section of Burling-
ton City and uncarted townhome
communities will not receive blue
recycling carts but instead will
continue to use their existing re-
cycling buckets for single-stream
collection.
