Though a recent gift from Norway’s vibrant cottage industry, this rose pattern
was almost certainly brought there in the first place by travelling salesmen from

pire for over six centuries and rulers of Austria-Hungary until 1918, Jaktmönstret
is pure textile narrative. Upon laying eyes on the pattern during a visit to our
family mill in 1877, Crown Prince Gustav is heard to exclaim, “The hunter’s aim
is true.”

Ett samarbete mellan Svenska Naturskyddsföreningen och Ekelund

har resulterat i 3 vackra handdukar, samtliga vävda i ekologiskt
odlad bomull från Peru. I den bruna handduken har dessutom den
bruna färgen åstadkommits av färgvä3ande bomull. Mönstret är
framtaget av Elin Larsson i en designtävling. Ett sagotema med ett
djup av stadens hotande siluett i bakgrunden. En vinnande miljö-
märkt handduk.
A winning eco-labeled towel

The Swedish Society for the Conservation of Nature and Ekelund
have collaborated to produce three beautiful towels, all woven in
organically grown cotton from Peru. In addition, the color of the
brown towel was achieved through color-grown cotton. The pat-
tern was specially designed by Elin Larsson in a design competi-
tion. The fairy tale theme features a depth from the city's threate-
ning silhouette in the background. A winning eco-labeled towel.

In past times, the development of textile production

was closely linked to building techniques and inte-
rior design. Bare surfaces needed to be covered with
textiles, both for warmth and esthetic appearance.
Straight, hard benches needed covering with soft
cushions. This love of home textiles was also reflected
in the most prized furniture item in historic peasant
homes: the bed.
The materials used to produce all these textile items
usually came from one’s own farm. The designs came
from pattern books, which were printed in Italy, Herrestad

France and Germany from as early as the 16th cen- 30360 cm
tury. These books provided the peasant class with

ideas and inspiration for many of the designs featured
in home textiles. Some designs also filtered through
to the peasant class from aristocratic homes, some of
them dating back as far as the first centuries AD. Tex-
tile production was never an isolated art. It has always
been a product of its time and part of a larger historic
picture.
A marriage of old and new
We no longer need the same types of textile as in the
past. Few people today master the art of traditional Bjäresjö

weaving; we prefer other free time activities. But the 30360 cm
designs and colors were made to stand the test of time.

By combining modern production methods, automa-
tic weaving machines and Ekelund’s patented rainbow
weaving technique, we revive yesterday’s textiles in a
modern guise. With respect for traditional design, it is
our honor to carry our treasured textile heritage into
the future.

Linen is the most comfortable of all materials. Thanks to its high moisture ab-
sorption capacity, it keeps your bed deliciously cool. It’s slightly more expensive
– but considering we spend about a third of our life in bed, it’s worth investing in
the best.
Our products are woven out of unbleached linen thread. Linen gradually fades
when washed normally. This process can be slowed down by using bleach-free
washing detergent. A benefit of linen is that it stays clean for longer than other
materials such as cotton, due to the fibers’ hard, smooth surface.
The flax for our linen thread is produced in Belgium or northern France. This
region has the world’s best climate for growing flax. The linen is woven at our
factory in Horred, Sweden.
